This game is going to die a fast death

GrailerGrailer Member UncommonPosts: 893

Progression is too fast in this game .

Right now there is about 200 players standing around in town doing nothing . That tells me people are bored .

Bored people soon look for new games .

It was doomed when SE decided not to follow in FFXI's footsteps. There was a reason FFXI maintained a very loyal userbase.

It's a little premature for that.  The real question is how many subs do they need to stay afloat, if it's in the 100k-200k range I could see it lasting a long long time...  and if not... given the state of the f2p market it could do fairly well there.  I mean, it's not as good as Tera or swtor, but the graphics are wonderful and there is a niche audience for the slow combat and FF nostalgia.

Sometimes I stand around and just talk to people in guild or zone chat, you know its an mmorpg.  While I stand I usually look for groups to go do a dungeon or help people out.  Which was exactly the same thing I did in Final Fantasy 11.

bored people are boring, thats why so many threads like this shows up.

The game is fun and pretty, has a strong ip, dedicated fans and dedicated developers. If it really goes about dying it would be a shame... it's the best mmo that came out in a long time, imo, of course.

They still can go the F2P route before closing, i don't see FFXIV going down in a near future.

    You are being dramatic.

people are standing around in town while waiting for the DF to commence

it's been like that since the DF is implemented which is day 1 launch

i agree that the progression is too fast

back then, people were raging that phylo & mytho stones are too hard to obtain

and now, SE made them easier to farm

    people will always complain

Admittedly, I'm waiting to see what the numbers look like by March. That's the end of SE's business quarter, so we'll get a better idea of how successful/unsuccessful the game.

I personally can't believe people are still playing it this long. I was done with the content 1 month after release, and I wasn't even grinding. I feel like if I was playing even an hour a day, I'd have completed this game on at least 2 classes by now... but hey, to each their own.

Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

Oh no, people standing around socializing in an MMO. The horror.

Do you feel the same way when you see all the people in the market section?

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

We are born of the blood. Made men by the blood. Undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open. FEAR THE OLD BLOOD.

FFXIV is the best MMO on the market right now. Negative people will always try to bring down the games they don't like.

FFXIV is what you make of the time you have to play. You can do as little or as much as you can handle and still feel like you are progressing your character.

    Nah, it won't die.

It'll level off at a steady pop over time and then remain there, with slight bumps around expansions or major updates, and then settle back down again. Pretty much like every other MMO out there. It won't do "amazing". But it's not gonna fail, either. As long as it's doing well enough for SE to keep it going, it'll keep going.

There are always people standing around in MMOs. Though I don't doubt a large number of them are standing around waiting in queue (seems to go with the territory in MMOs with dungeon finders), but a number of them are perhaps just chilling out, talking to people or whatever.

Hell, I played FFXI for over 7 years, loved the hell out of that game and was never bored... Yet I spent a lot of my time hanging out in Lower Jeuno, sitting against the stairs next to the Auction House, chatting it up with folks in my LS, people in local, etc. Even though the genre has been largely "game-ified", ARR definitely included, there are still people who treat them more as a hobby to be enjoyed "doing whatever", than "games" they're trying to "finish". It's rare, but we're still around :p.

If the game were going to die a fast death, don't you think it would have done so by now?  Square-Enix hasn't exactly looked eager to pull the plug on anything FFXIV-related.

I disagree OP. It all die a slow death and in 14 + years the final serve will be shut down    By then though w will be on the next iteration of FFO( continuing on with my guess) FF19.

If FFXI is an indication it will probably go on even longer. A number FFXI players have no taste for FFXIV and are still getting decent updates IMO.  I imagine the next iteration of FFO will be the end of XI though(at least a in P2P form but I don't see it succeeding as F2P with the console UI(as a kb+m guy I could not get past it)).

For the record I don't see this game dieing anytime soon.  If 2.1 is any indication I feel they'll be able to release and fix things at a good pace for most people.  Will it ever reach launch numbers again? Probably not or at least not until the next wave of WoW killers are in ashes.  IMO it was the best MMORPG to come out a in a long time.  I'll give Wildstar a shot but ESO sounds like it's going to be a piece of trash.

I think the biggest hurdle for them to get over to really make this game last the long run is figuring out a way to make crafting more useful than it is now (basically needed for a few quests and melding materia).

Has I had purchased the original game I finally got round to playing this the other day and I was shocked when in the first 10 lvls all I was getting was kill quests.3 of this and 4 of that.not what I expected at all and quite repetitive I must say.but also I seem to be having fun as well.has the sub fee is only £6.79 a month I may stick with it and see how it goes but I really hope it improves.
  • NetSageNetSage Member UncommonPosts: 1,059
The quests aren't going to change the genre I'm not going to lie :P.  But, if they did it would probably end up in a different genre.  Personally I like a lot the stories that go with the quests though.

OP said it's so - must be true.
  • GrrlGrrl Member UncommonPosts: 354

    I completely disagree.

    The progression is absolutely s-l-o-w.

There are times I'd go zzzz lol, but I'm tolerating it.

It has some good aspects AND bad aspects... just like other mmo's.

    This will last a while.

If those 200 are the only people online at the time.

This game might not be special in the western market because there are so many mmo hoppers, but this game is doing well in japan.  It still has a PS4 release and is going to be released in China next year.

This game is doing well.  By well, i mean it's making a profit for SE which means it remains P2P for 10+ years just like FFXI.

This game's trajectory is nothing like SWTOR.  In SWTOR you knew it was going free to play after the first month.   THe prognostic-haters have been saying the same ting about FFXIV, but to their shock, the 3 month numbers were VERY strong.

This game made SE project financial lossess to a HUGE financial gain.  They had to devote 3 weeks of their time to adjust the servers because so many more people signed on than they had anticipated.

I suspect this game has solid subscription numbers at this point (probably 400-450k) and will likely stay at that number for years and years.

Isn't it a little late for this game to die a fast death?

    Or what Quizzical said.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Stop being such a drama queen.

  • LyrianLyrian Member UncommonPosts: 412

While I wish there was more content, FF14 has given me the most fun playing it than any other game in a long long time. This game will be fine.

  • GeezerGamerGeezerGamer Member EpicPosts: 8,857

Die fast? No. It won't even die slow. It will be around for a while.

It's a very good game as an MMO overall. it's foundationally solid. I just think it's development direction is slightly off. It needs to play more to it's own strengths instead of trying to focus where other games are stronger.

Meh....Maybe SE will learn this soon and I'll be back in this game only again.

  • srsnoobsrsnoob Member Posts: 44

I've been playing since release on and off basis and I really like the game. I think I will continue playing it for a long time, though not without breaks. I watch the live letters and I really like a lot of the ideas and attitude the producer and team has and I think they've really build a strong foundation for this game. There are so many opportunities to add more content and systems that it has huge potential. New classes = new quests = new jobs = new roles. More primals with normal, hard and extreme. More story missions. Individual player housing coming soon. Gold Saucer. Frontlines pvp, which is probably what I am most excited for though there aren't many details yet. They are already working on the pre-alpha for the expansion. So yea, this game is going to be around for a while and has a lot coming down the pipe.

It already has......was fun to begin with, but then at max level no content.  The new content was no content, then the pvp.....well worst ive ever seen in a mmo.

Hey it took 2 months for world first turn 5 kill, that's lot better than the 2 weeks it took for the world firsts of SWTORs raids.
