As you may know, SOE did created two earlier versions of EQN but eventually discarded them. The developers have stated that they retained all games assets such as art, lore and so forth from these two earlier versions. Well...it looks like they go back to the drawing board again.
I'm not sure what's going on with their development. It sounds like they are buying time as much as possible and using Landmark as a diversion.
Their position seems odd to me.

You must not be paying attention being SOE has layed out everything that happened last year. They started to develop EQN then decided it was just another MMO then changed to a new style game then again changed because it was to much the same as all the others. They went back and said F it lets do crazy stuff that has never been done like EQ1 did when it launched. They came back and looked at their ideas over and over and said are we crazy? That is when they said lets do it and you now see what they are trying Emergent AI, Destructibility, Game master per server, the list goes on.
As for Landmark the tools for Landmark are build in EQNext then added to Landmark. Emergent AI was made for EQNext and will be put into Landmark, Destructibility etc. All tools are build for EQnext then added to Landmark after. landmark was made because they had so many awesome tools for 2 mmo's and someone prolly said HEY lets make a build your own MMO style game with current tools and future tools from EQnext. EQnext is a story driven, class etc. Where Landmark is a Build your own MMO where players will have almost all if not all the developer tools to build their idea of what they want to play.

Massively: Let's start with EQ Next. When did you make the call to scrap everything? What was it that made you choose to do so?
John Smedley: A year and a half ago, we made that decision. I didn't get to cover this in the keynote, so I should mention it here. The engine and underlying technology has not changed. A lot of the guts and infrastructure are staying the same. What we're really changing is what the game is all about, all the design elements. We made one fundamental shift to emergent gameplay.

Yes, I'm aware of that. This is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about their art assets from two earlier versions. From what I'm seeing lately, they appear to start over with their new art assets. I might be wrong. Does anyone have this impression?
i saw the old animations that were "leaked" in Jan 2011 but that was 3 years ago

It makes sense that they clear out art assets like above to take advantage of its facial expression technology. Funny, I like this look of orc - it looks realistic. It's a shame if they discarded them.
Did you even try to find an answer to your impressions before posting? It's odd that you would know they restarted the game twice, but the basic details how landmark and EQN are connected escaped your prevue.
As Nadia has pointed out, I've missed the date between the old art assets and new engine Light Forge. I was under the impression the Light Forge was created much earlier than 2011. Apparently, I was wrong about that.

The devs already did a good enough job discouraging me from playing a game I heard rumors about 10 years ago and thought I would definitely play.
Didn't think they were going to create a game where we are hand held and have no risk vs reward concepts.
I'm not sure where you get the impression there will be hand holding and no risk/reward. In fact, they said the opposite about hand holding. There will be no symbols above heads, you have to seek out additional classes and earn them through actions. The AI system looks to have players use their head when playing.
The risk/reward has been less mentioned but I hope has some semblance of difficulty. If they go with a MOBA type combat system maybe it will.
Obviously if the game doesn't punch him in the face every 5 minutes, it must be holding his hand. Funny that those wanting "no hand holding" are the ones crying and stomping their feet on the internet like children...take your ball and go home, no one will notice.
EQN has the potential to be one of the least hand-holding experiences yet. Not sure if some people are just slow, ignorant, or just trolling, so hard to tell sometimes.
