Wanna play any race with any faction, better pre-order....

So it says on the pre-order website:

If I understand this correctly...if you want to be able to play any race with any faction, you MUST pre-order....otherwise you'd be limited to race/alliance restrictions.

 

If this is true and I am not interpreting it incorrectly, how do you guys feel about this?

To answer my own question, i think this sucks. It should be a standard option. I'm not gonna organize a protest or anything quite so melodramatic, but it just seems to cut against teh grain of the lore.

 

I say this because every Elder Scrolls game I have ever played was in a different region of Tamriel...and each region was very diverse in the races that lived there.

Of course it's a horrible decision, just like the Imperial pay locked race.  But plenty of people defend and support such decisions, so more and more companies will keep doing stuff like this.

If it makes them more money than it loses them, it was a great decision.  Unfortunately, that is a question they will have to guess at the answer to, since they will only know what does happen, not what would have happened with a different approach.
