Why should gaming be any different than the rest of life. Pay more, get more, if that doesn't compute your screwed.
Life is essentially pay to win, but on the side note peoples view of pay to win is totally out of wack. A ring that gives a small boost to xp with a friend is not pay to win. A staff that melts your face that I buy at lvl 1 that you can't get till lvl 80, that's pay to win.
Well, I pay to avoid P2W games. And I do that by using subscription based games.
Where I'm from, healthcare is free. For everyone. We pay taxes so that everyone can enjoy proper healthcare. We pay taxes so that every goddamn restaurant from burgerking to grand restaurants are kept in their place with hygiene regulations and marketing laws.
I want you to know, that were I'm from, we pay tons of taxes so that everyone can remain at equal footing. Even if you are from a family that has barely no wealth to speak of, you can get a PhD without being covered in debt.
I live in a subscription based nation. We do not differ between rich and poor, but by productive and less productive. Think about that the next time you assume that American ideals apply to the rest of the world.
(By the way, those rings that gives you XP boosts are pretty expensive ingame. They're essentially heirloom armour from WoW if you could purchase it in a cash shop)
I read a post above that says these items will still be available to players to but once the game is released. Please tell me this isnt true?
If that is true then IT IS available to all players at a cost. So now it turns to the lore of the game rather than the perks CE get. And isnt the point of ES that you have a non linear character progression and can be what you want to be?
If the above is true then people need to stop complaining that it's not fair that CE get the new race and they dont. You can get it you just have to pay for it like CE players did. Damn you devs if this is true, you just need to come out and spell it out to people.
The imperial edition upgrade (digital CE items including Imperial race) will be offered in a cash shop. They are still deciding whether to offer the faction unlock (pre-order bonus) on the cash shop too.
Would you please provide reliable reference (link). Much obliged.
Exactly! Cause you know... exclusive like an artbook or statues for box copies aren't really exclusive... and exclusive pets and mounts aren't exclusive. Nah, those exclusives aren't exclusive, its only exclusive if its obviously something that should effect game balance in some form for a subscription based game where its suppose to provide a balanced play area!
Totally, why can't other games make real exclusives like their fake exclusives they pitch that only their CE players get thats not really exclusive despite the fact that it.... is....
Okay I give up. Do you realize how silly you sound saying people get something exclusive when its something that every CE does, it just happens to be in this case a rather poor choice attempting to bait people into buying it since you know, Race holds an actual effect on game play rather then just some little cosmetic trinket?

So let people that pay extra get extra perks. People who feel they should get everything that someone else pays more for is insane. Anywhere, any product, anything' the man with more money gets more, how is a video game any different. If you want to play the race, pay for it, if not be happy with what you get, otherwise, shut your mouth. The tears flowing because of this game and the decisions Bethesda has made makes me think that game companies should just go back to keeping everything secret and just making people pay to see what they have created.

It's different because it's a game. It'd be the same if there was some external power controlling you in real life that would "pay more" to grant you success, powers, or w/e. Strictly in the game, you are correct... Money gets you things, but you have to work for and earn that money. The moment you pay real world dollars to get an advantage in a virtual world, it becomes pay to win.
They are essentially bribing you, in a bad way, to get you to give them your money. Look at all the games that offered a one time payment for a lifetime sub... They're F2P now. They took people's money and ran off.

You must be new to gaming... Things like this have happened before and it destroyed games. It's all great and awesome that you buy something to look cool and show off, but how's that gonna work when there's no one there to show off to? Instead you'll be laughed at and feel bad that you forked over all that money for nothing.
This is a question of principles and morale - there are some things you just should not do - and this is one concerning MMO world
To give an extreme example: Nazis justified their philosophies as well but we all know it was bad
Care to explain why it is immoral?
And your example is unjustified, this is a game. yes it costs money but it is still for the sake of enjoyment. it is a luxury and does not in any way effect any persons quality of life. if people need a game for this then i have to feel for that person as they have lived one sheltered life!

Plenty of P2P P2W games if that's your preference. "We don't want the player to worry about which parts of the game to pay for - with our system, they get it all." - Matt Firor.......or maybe not.
I think that the pre-order CE for this is great. There is finally a truly exclusive reward for contributing to the development and success of a game. I think people who pay for early-access, pre-order, or in any way show support for a game before it comes out should get something for their contribution.
Cheers Bethesda.
Yes, cheer for them enabling your conceited habits right up until they place these items to be bought on their cash shop.
This poster has given everyone a clear example of someone who adheres to the law of entitlement. They want to pay more money, quicker, simply so they can lord over the peasant masses who were unable to do the same for various reasons.
I believe that this OP is simple trollbait; however, there are some who would agree with what you are advocating and that is indeed disturbing.
Its nice to see people creating threads just to beef with people. Telling people to shut their mouths and to get over it are right up my alley! Did ya get a ban or warning? Man I always get both.

How you people cannot comprehend it is NOT about the money is fucking baffling.
If supporting the game means throwing your money at them feel free to do so. All you do is supporting publishers chance to charge people extra for things that should have been part of the box+sub.
It must be hard on you that this game isn't f2p, a system that truly rewards people that throw money at the publisher.
Inlfation calculator;
Normally I agree about over charging... but $15 today is not the same as before.
Infact it should cost around $20 to get $15 dollars worth. SO subs should be around $20.
box sales id they cost $50 should be around $65 or $70.
Factor the lack of inflation adjustment, and how much they are losing compared to 2000, then you will see why.
Might be true for the american market, not true for the european market. Put in usd box cost is around $8 more expensive than it was for skyrim.
Iselin: And the next person who says "but it's a business, they need to make money" can just go fuck yourself.

Perhaps they are unable to see the discussion from that particular perspective because they do not desire too. Or perhaps they are unable to comprehend that perspective because they do not think on those terms. Someone who perceives things in pragmatic, monetary value where money is the only factor which determines the amount you can enjoy a product can make for poor participants in a discussion involving emotions.
Or perhaps this is a simple troll thread intended to seek anger from those who view this issue in an emotional light. Yet it is always good to consider many possibilities.

Ok...
If this game were free to play or buy to play, I would completely be on your side. 100%.
It isn't. It is buy to play and subscribe. Then having a 'cash' shop or further buy ins to 'complete' the game is ridiculous.
Also, if you think your $150.00 does anything in anyway to help Zenimax develop this game, you are sadly mistaken. The game is paid for, no stretch goal, no kickstarter.
If they offered some cool armor or other trinkets to people that want to spend the cash, very cool I get it. But an entire race? That is free to play cash shop stuff right there.
However, it does leave a lot of writing on the wall as to what they are planning for the future. I am starting to agree with the 'free to play in 6 months' crowd. This little debacle here is a good step in that direction.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

Major over reaction alert for many people over this!
Well firstly: they simply lied justifying the sub fee as a way to get everything and not to worry about cash shop
secondly: if it wasnt immoral/controversial there wouldnt be such harsh backlash across all eso forums
thirdly: it basicaly forces you to spent more considering the fact that the imperial perk/explorers pack is too good to pass
and finally: they mutilated their own lore and rules(faction pride) for the sake of easy cash - doesnt that feel a little bit off?
But whatever, just blindly defend it so in 2016 the games we'll pay for will be just engine shells and everything else will be a sweet luxury content in cash shop - way to go!
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

Hmm lied? no i cannot agree with that. This is game in production with a discalimer added that things may change during production and what you play through beta is not the finished game. Sorry you are wrong there.
What really happened was they made a change, one you and many others dont agree with but a change neverless. This is where most of you arguing against it are falling short and i mean this is the most constructive way.
Immoral because it has caused controvesy? again everything that is controversial is not immoral. A forum is here so people can discuss and offer opinions.
Again from what i have read, and i admit i am still not sure if this is opinions or fact....but people are saying it will be available to buy in the finished version too.
And lastly. i am in no way defending the game blindly...i have never played it and for all i know it may be garbage. I am actually a fan of subs and dislike cash shops myself unless they are only for cosmetic purposes. I am just trying to udnerstand why so many people feel so hurt about this.
But people using terms such as lying and immoral dont really seem to offer a valid point... IN MY OPINION!
If i everytime i change my mind or make a change in life means that i have lied, then i must surely be going straight to hell! But i actually class myself as a very morally guided good person ( mostly Ego ).
I am interested in your last point as i think changing the fundamentals of the lore is something i can understand. If it something that goes against the lore of ES then i can understand why people are getting so upset about it.
I would really like to learn more about this as all of this has perked my interest in this game and i am now going to buy it, where before i was happy to wait for EQN before i brought another game, but now i have to see what this is all about.
I hope people dont think i am blindly trying to defend them because that is not my intention at all. I honestly do want to try to understand more. I am going to go and look into the lore a bit more asi have an interest in it now.
So let me get this right. Having the CE gives you the following:
New race ( not just a human but an actual new race )
New race levels faster than anyone others because it has a bonus to exp
New race is more powerful than any other race
New race has access to areas that are not available to other races
If this is true i actually agree with everyone crying about it. I mean im not going to cry myself and it wont affect my desicion on whether to buy the game or not, but i do think that is unfair.
If it is just a different skin for your character and doesnt really give any advantage in the actual game then it is just another cash shop item for me and i have no problem with it.
The "race" doesn't include a starter area, quests or a home city. It is a race in appearance only. They do have their own racials, but it hasn't been shown what racials it will have, or if racials have a substantial impact on the game.
The XP bonus is applied to the player and anyone they give one of the Rings of Mara to, so it's more of a group thing. Also, Mara is apparently the goddess of love, so giving the rings out may have other implications beyond just the 3% leveling bonus.
Based on current information, the Imperials are not more powerful nor do they have access to special areas.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I disagree completely. The only reason it's exclusive is because, compared to other MMOs (GW2 for example), they have removed features from the core game. It's only special to have the imperial race because it's not included by default. That doesn't make something special.. it just means they have taken something away.. you get LESS and have to pay MORE to get the same level of choice and customisation available in other games at no extra cost.
Buy GW2 box to get all races and content. Buy WoW and sub to get all races and content.
Buy ESO box, pay a sub and pay extra to get all the races and content.
ESO isn't that much of a better game to demand such a high price. I predict they will realise this quite quickly. Sure, they'll get away with this at launch.. due to hype and excitement and all that. I've bought it. After launch though, not a chance.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Well stating that you hate the monetizing (“And it’s important to state that our decision to go with subscriptions is not a referendum on online game revenue models. F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models – but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. The fact that the word “monetized” exists points to the heart of the issue for us: We don’t want the player to worry about which parts of the game to pay for – with our system, they get it all.”) and then do the same exact thing even in a worse way without at least humble apologize is extremely low for such company - you may justify it by disclaimer but thats just a piece of paper protecting them from inconveniences..If I have a signed paper that says I can make up stuff, im still a liar in others people eyes imo
Or call them greedy hypocrites - you decide which is better/worse but in either way its nowhere near the higher morale standarts

I understand your anger i really do friend but it is just s decision change thats all, a change in direction.
You have even used a direct quote from them that says all models are valid proven business models- but subscription was the way they chose to go. They have just changed direction on this for one reason or another.
Please bear in mind this a meant to be a collectors edition. At worst they have had some naive PR send out the wrong message. And thats a mistake.
To call a mistake out as being immoral and lies is unfair. i have made many mistakes, for example i wrote 17-Jan-2013 on an audit recently and the damn auditer spotted it. But rather than call me a liar because it was 2014, he pointed out the mistake. Now i am not condoning their decision in any way but rather putting things into perspective. They made a call which hasnt gone down well, it was naive and has caused anger. But thats all it seems to be.
I mean come on i would bet that when that statement was put out....yes you guessed it....they probably hadnt even considered what they would include in the CE edition. Now if they knew all along and had even considered that when putting out that statement then yes they lied!

Pigozz.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
what you are advocating is that sub games should do what free to play games do
PAY EXTRA , for special bonuses
EQ2 fan sites
Thank you.
Thats what i was looking for, some real information. Much appreciated Lizardbones.
Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being “monetized” in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days.
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
I understand your anger i really do friend but it is just s decision change thats all, a change in direction.
