Something to play besides WoW...

PixelPandaPixelPanda Member Posts: 35

Hi folks,

I am currently playing WoW again with a friend of mine, having a blast but every now and then I could use a break from all this nostalgic stuff happening around me :)

Looking into playing something f2p, maybe a little bit harder than WoW without being forced to raid some heroic stuff, just something that is "harder" in general.

I am into pve and pvp equally so the game should deliver both parts.

Holding a copy of GW2 and some veteran accounts to Aion, Tera und Rift so I could play each of those with nearly no restrictions.

I should mention I am from germany, so the game should a least have an EU version.

Feel free to post some guesses about one of those or maybe something entirely different.

   Thanks alot :-)

Go play some Hearthstone. it is addictingly fun as hell but also can be frustrating too.

I think GW2 is your best option if you are looking for something not too serious. I was gonna suggest SWTOR but you said F2P and SWTOR F2P is atrocious. Many people do manage it but a sub is the best option. When i played Tera, Gameforge was doing shit and i don't know if it's the same still or not. Rift is an okay option but i hate the gloomy settings and visuals. Also, dunno if the population is still good or not.

On the topic of something hard, you can try The Secret World. It's mostly B2P and it has good difficulty in quests as well as dungeons.

I second this, since it's the closest thing to WoW without being WoW that I've played.  You can even adjust your level down to make content more difficult and more rewarding.

I maybe consider AoC - I believe there are german servers still going and f2p, but would suggest maybe paying for 1 or 2 smaller things from cash shop like baggage etc...

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

From the 4 you mentioned OP, I'd say Rift or GW2. However both are simpler than WoW.

Rift will actually be fun for a bit while you level up as you can play with builds, but cookie cutters emerge when you're facing with participating in groups.

GW2 you will either love it or hate it, because by level 3-5 you've pretty much unlocked all the weapon skills for your chosen class and that exactly what you get to play the rest of the game, so if you like the way the game plays, then keep on playing.

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried it bust meanwhile i think rift is too similar to wow. Want to try something different, maybe something more asian or korean :-)
Is aion or tera more viable if you take a look at the endgame?

    Anything:D

Gw2 has sustainable value. If you want a more asian feel, Aion and Tera are basically the same save Tera's combat being vastly different from traditional mmo combat. Though personally I've played them all extensively and Gw2 is the only one I can see being worth your time to invest in. Tera is practically dead, and Aion is to similar to Wow.

    GW2 is quite boring.

It doesnt matter if you are level 1 or 80.

rift is fun, GW2 is fun, firefall was fun until the last patch, marvel heroes is fun, terra is fun, aion is sorta fun, SWG EMU is a blast, but you need the disks.

Harder game? I don't think MMO are very hard, until you reach endgame that is.

Aion perhaps had some "panic" moments (back in the day at least, haven't played for a while), is quite grindy (that's another form   of difficulty I imagine), and (had?) people coming to fight you while you were PvEing.

But for a different game/setting, try maybe DCUO. By no means a great game, it still has "dynamic combat" and the superhero setting is fun for a change of pace and I remember soloing some areas was quite difficult (and is not one more Asian RPG).

GW2 is probably the "best" of your selection, I would agree with the other posters (although similar setting to WoW and not hard at all).

Give TSW a try.  Definitely a change in genres and definitely harder.  Also investigation puzzles that require thought...

I beg to differ. 1-80 was fun, but once I was 80, I didn't feel like continuing.

there's lots of good games out there. Ones i've enjoyed, Rift, Aion, AoC and Eldevin. All are fairly current (except AoC) and are different enough from each other that they are worth giving their own shot to. Aion is the most grindy, Rift is the most fun PvP and Eldevin is awesome cosidering its browser based. Hope that helps some.
