Skyshards are like a slap in the forehead with a 2x4

/said in a Chandler voice

Can these things be any more obvious?

If you look at some of the media videos that have been released you'll see one or two of the skyshards. These bright beams of light that can be seen from quite a distance are way too obvious. I love the concept and they are certainly worth hunting down, but they should be a little more discreet in appearance - you think?

while I agree with what you are saying, these are things that will be one of the first things posted on Wiki type pages, so its irrelevant.

Of all the complaints this game warrants you choose to pick something that is actually so minuscule moot it boggles my mind.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

there are indeed legitimate criticisms with this game but do topics like this surprise you? these forums are riddled with dumb nit picky complaints such as this.

i suppose people have to think of new topics they can complain about since everything else has been beaten to death by now.

people on these forums complain just for the sake of complaining.

Lol... not only petty but wrong. SOME are obvious but many are well hidden. Coldharbour + first 2 zones have 21. About 7 of those are obvious.

Of course, google will take care of that in no time and will make all of them obvious for those who want them that way.

Otherwise, the lorebook tells you how many are in each zone and gives you not-so-easy hints on where to find them.

OP - remember this post when you are running around trying to find all of the ones you missed while leveling....there are many, many skyshards to be found....also - make sure your system can play at the highest graphics as the "beam of light "is not so obvious if you are not "maxed" on graphics.....

Hey!  Some people like doing the little scavenger hunt/jumping puzzle type things (i.e. datacrons / vistas / skyshards /artifacts).

Not all people immediately go to the wiki to look them up.  Its fun to come across them, its another incentive for exploring.

Some are obvious, some are not obvious.

Pretty small problem, wouldn't you say?

  • rojoArcueidrojoArcueid Member EpicPosts: 10,722
The skyshards are a nice addition, but i think they need to remove the beam of light. Without the light beam the shard would look more like the Lorestones from Amalur. Much much natural than just chasing the light.

i believe that if a game developer doesnt tackle problems regardless of size he shouldnt be making games. The more they address the better the game becomes. Specially the little things that make the game overall feel better both visually or gameplay-wise

I didn't see the light beam as a problem. It's not enough that you have to be in the general area and spot the blue beam for most of those that I came across. With a beacon like this I think they've struck a balance between having some searching required and being able to find em without resorting to an internet search.

OP thinks anything in any game can be truely kept a secret/hard to fine/whatever.

Sky Shards are already a challenge to find (more than half of the ones in the starting zones are *not* obvious at all). I give it about a day after NDA gets taken down before resources where you can look up the location of each one starts to pop up.

  • VonatarVonatar Member UncommonPosts: 723
As Iselin says. Some are obvious, and some are well hidden. In my view the beam of light makes little difference - it helps you spot one out in the wild, sure. But the ones in caves and dungeons are pretty well placed. With so many to find in zones I think it is by design that some shine out to you from a distance - it gives you incentive to then go hunt for the signicantly less obvious ones.

In my personal run trough i actually missed quite a lot of the skyshards, they might give off a lot of light when standing close by, but they arent actually all that easy to spot from far off. Like you wouldnt be able to spot one two islands next to you.

And like said earlier there are a lot hidden in caves and secluded spots, heck one in the starting zone was hidden behind a tower in a ruined temple which was just as high as the beam of light. I only spotted it because the achievement page gave an indication of where it might be.

You have nothing to worry about there, and if you think you will get to many skillpoints well you have an entire crafting system to put points into aswell.

Certainly, if the developer considers it a problem.

Now, I like using my brain a bit before I complain.

    Let's try it:

    Skyshards = skill points.

Unlike SWtOR Datacrons, skill points are TREMENDOUSLY important for your character. Datacrons were miniscule in their effect.

Now, in a game where, as a developer, you're trying to give something entertaining to do for all kinds of players, including those who enjoy PvP, exploration, story, combat, etc. - do you think it's a smart move to make tremendous power available ONLY to those who enjoy looking in every nook and cranny?

Personally, I think the smart thing to do is to make a LOT of them obvious - to keep people on an even playfield - but SOME of them hidden, so as to make exploration a real incentive for those who enjoy that aspect of the game.

Have you considered that, I wonder?
