I felt that who ever developed the bow use for the game NEVER played an archer.

    -bows are underpowered

-bow range is far too short

-arrows in flight are almost invisible

-there are no arrows sticking out of your target upon impact

-there is no blood from wounds

-their is no sound of the arrow in flight or when it hits your target

-hit a target with a poison arrow...their is no indication of poison effects

net net so far its like a weak caster casting  spells which don't display any effects.

that is why I am trying a Sorc and hoping bow users(sadly not archers) get a lot more life breathed into them before launch.

i agree with this im very found of useing bows in games, as i practice archery in real life as a pass time, but this game just seems to not care which is really dissapointing considering the last few games did great jobs with bows for the most part.

I don't know.. I got a lot of kills in PVP using bow and I never skilled any skills in it lol. Normal attack ftw.

Ranged limitation on bow may change, but right now it's probably a balancing issue. Yet I think the range should be further than the rush and pull attacks at least.

Animations did seem off, but animations are easier to fix than core gameplay.

Well... the game is kinda meh. Not a bad game, but there are better options for a much lower price.

I disagree which is why this is the first time in 10 years I'm playing consoles games instead of an MMO. That will change when this releases. Can't wait.

I almost always play a bow character.. not in TESO.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Playing during a couple of betas my problem with the bow was mostly the range.

But mind, I did  the stupid error of getting in and expecting the bow in the single players, which was very silly of me, so maybe the range is perfect , it just seemed too short to me.

I tried to shoot at mobs while I was on a bridge and it did irk me I was not in range to shoot them , even if they seemed pretty close.

But again, I went in with skyrim bow in my mind so my perception was awfully pre conditioned and way off for an MMO.

There's one mmorpg which have a pretty similar combat like ESO, which is Blade & Soul. There are soft targeting, click to attack, blocking, etc. BnS does it way better, from running to combat animation, and it's been around since 2009. Why can't ZOS learn from it?

Speculating, but copyright and/or patent laws may be a factor.  Particularly if any of ZOS' staff have ever worked for... ncsoft?

    ...

also, completely different art style.  ZOS has to try and look like it's at least somewhat related to the Elder Scrolls series, not some Japanese ecchi magazine.  (Or Korean, as is apparently the case.)

Well, I'm not talking about the art, it's the animation. The keyword is learn, BnS has been around since 2009, it's 5  years ago for pete's sake. Are you saying that it's fine for ZOS to produce animations which are worse than that was produced in 2009?

Is this the best western mmorpg developer can do?

Well, everyone who is not happy and whining about animation in general, and bow animation in particular move to the right.

All others, who understand that game have that epic PVP thanks to that sacrifice in animation, move to the left.

Is this the best western mmorpg developer can do? No, but it is a quite smart decision, if you want a proper made AvA PVP of that proportions.

So, I am assuming all complaining about animation people are PVE people?! Do not care about PVP at all?!

I almost never play a bow character in MMOs (I do in Skyrim) but that was my favorite weapon skill line here...will definitely be playing one. I guess I'm not as sensitive as others are to "crap" animations.

They should just categorise the bow as a melee weapon considering how close you have to be to actually hit an enemy. Archery is rendered useless.. You can use it to open the fight, but you'll end up switching weps after the first or second arrow.

Few animations are acceptable. Characters and NPCs look ridiculous when moving about and out of place. ESO is one of those games where character models and the world graphics don't match up. The world is beautiful, absolutely stunning, but the characters feel out of place..

Wasn't a problem for me - there's a bow ability, Scatter shot that knocks back and disorients them and can be morphed to either knock yourself back also or to snare them in addition to the other effects.

The volley AOE can also be morphed to have a 30 meter range which is 2 more meters than any other ranged ability.

And the ability Snipe has a 40 meter range that is 12 more than any other ranged ability.

im sorry but did you just say that its ok to cut corners on parts of the game so long as its not your PvP,

my my it must be nice to be self important. and no not everyone complaining about it is a PvE only person.

i swear i cant stand people who say it dousnt matter if what you like is crap so long as what i like is good.

Except that Blizzard is currently revamping their animation quality and sound design.

Don't worry, they will have to address the Bow Design in TES:O. So far from what I have read 80% of the entire playerbase disagrees with the current work.

You sure it's not 82.3%? I love these magical stats people always like to trot out.

Hopefully that will improve before launch..It seems to me that whoever the dev was that created a bow user...never played the class in other games. Anemic...underpowered.....gimp....lacking a range advantage come to mind as descriptors.

I do think the AVA portion of the game will be a key factor in its survival.

You can start to play with a bow as a sorcerer at any time :) Hopefully Zenimax do something about the bow combat.

    Let's see.  80% of a non-existent player base (game isn't out yet) is...well carry the 1...hmmm

I read 87.6% of the entire left handed playerbase  though the bow animations were the best they had ever seen ...and 92.3 % didn't give a flying fiddlers about WOW

Bow animation and the targeting itself was a bit wonky in beta. I prefer using the staff because you actually see what you're hitting. Would probably improve with floating numbers addon :D
