Werewolves and Vampires

KuinnKuinn Member UncommonPosts: 2,072

So we finally have the 3A fantasy mmorpg with these two culprits.

Anyone who has ever played on an RP server in other games, even if not to roleplay, you cant avoid running into these two magical creatures. Usually expressed in very bad taste with some dragon blood in the mix and also a hint of angel dust and some demon shadiness on top of that what the fu-

Anyway, will these two transformations have any impact on the game's popularity? I bet there's even some non roleplayers (technically everyone roleplays who plays but you get the point) who are excited to jump into the boots or paws of these two violencers.

They had them in Everquest, but you couldn't become one yourself.  That always makes things a little more interesting.

There used to be a werewolf that would run from the karana's to qeynos hills at a certain time of the night.  Castle Mistmoore had lots of vampire types.

I still love to see these type of things in games.  It adds to the role playing aspect/PvE side of things.  It's even better when you contract a disease and it has a negative impact on your gameplay if you don't get it cured.  In some of the Elder Scrolls games you had to feed as a Vampire to survive.  You also couldn't go out in the day.  I don't think that would work well in an MMO.  I'm not quite sure how these things work in ESO as I haven't encountered them yet.

Shadowbane had them as well. Vampires do have to feed in TESO, however I do not recall if they can move about in daylight.

I encounter a few Werewolves doing the Dagger fall quest line. Not sure how to become one though.

I think it both depends on which elder scrolls game and how far along the disease has progressed.  I know that at the very least there is a penalty for being in the daylight.  Vampires seemed to be especially weak in Skyrim compared to werewolves.  I don't believe that was the case in previous versions of the game like Oblivion and Morrowind.  They were stronger, but also had higher penalties for being in daylight to the point were they could even take damage over time I believe.

These are consistent with prior TES games... Skyrim "Dawnguard" was centered around Vampires...

-Don't get all "Twighlight" or "Trueblood" on us... Think more like "Underworld"

    What are your other Hobbies?

Gaming is Dirt Cheap compared to this...

You can go to specific shrines and turn other players as well. Pretty cool.

by the looks of the passive abilities that both werewolf and vampires get, ( the abilities to turn other players ) I really hope becoming one is really difficult. Like similar to becoming a Jedi back on SWG before that patch that let everyone become one.
Also these will really open up some nice rp themed guilds.

I can imagine though that those players that invest in the fighters guild will have some fun picking off vampires :) Since Vampires are undead, most of the FG skills else hurt them alot haha as well as fire damage abilities.

At Launch in Vanguard, you could become infected by a Vampire around Hillsbury Manor.  You were stronger during the night, weaker during the day..and there was a complex questline for the cure.

They later removed the "curse" from the game for some reason..but it was one of the coolest things which ever happened to me and some friends while gaming.

I'm really looking forward to this, but I hope it's rare enough to be interesting.

Will be interesting to see how you do become one. Could be a rare drop of a amulet or something from a vampire or a werewolf like the amulet of hircine or could be inflicted by a hit from one of them with a low chance.

Its gonna be a choice in a quest. If its not then ill be surprised. Either kill this vampire lord or let him turn you. Thats how I see it being done.

Playing: FFXIV, DnL, and World of Warships
    Waiting on: Ashes of Creation

Yes, I got bitten by vampire in Oblivion without even knowing it, it was quite interesting when people (npc's) begin to ask "are you alright you look a little pale" and things like that and then you start suspecting something is wrong.

But I was talking about mmorpgs here, not many of them with Vampires and Werewolves, at least big budget (any? EQ only?) that has these options. I think it's great too that they are not races but transformations rather.

I read somewhere that a person who is already a vampire can turn you into a vampire too under some certain conditions, very cool for roleplaying. I dont know how to become one in the first place though.

I also hope players will have to face decisions that will alter their characters forever without any hope of turning back, and to some degree, I even despise any form of talent/skill reset; goes against the spirit of mmos, imo. About these 2 particular features, if they add aesthetic aspects to your character I'm sure they will attract different type of crowds, RPer to your regular, they are nice additions, and I hope they will add more.
