Before people could bad mouth the game without having to offer anything in way of proof of what they say. "The game is terrible" is not breaking any NDA; however, now that the NDA is lifted, these people are being called out. Now people can say why they LIKE the game other than just nebulous feelings. That's why I believe the majority of press since the NDA has lifted has been more positive than negative...
The stuff people were complaining about was public news had nothing to do with NDA.
Also originating JUST with websites/media that they have a combined effort with is more so trying to mislead people as advertising than trying to give us a GOOD inside look at a game.Point being advertisers are NEVER going to tell you the ins and outs, only what sounds good from a marketing perspective.
I think what really needs to be remembered is that Zenimax should be allowed to make the game they want, they are going to anyway.Even if i say something negative about the game, that does not mean i want the game changed for my sake, that would be selfish. When i point out a flaw or a really bad business decision it is an opinion based on the good of all NOT just myself.
There is always going to be passive people who will just say it is ok, like the game and will accept anything and get annoyed by others opinions but overall this is just opinions on games, nothing personal.Problem is when MANY take it personal ,start calling people HATERS or getting angry at the whole forum.
So when people are about to get all huffy, they should step back and think "just gaming and people discussing gaming"nothing world changing here.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I must be weird because I actually like it from level 1.
Maybe it had to do with having realistic expectations and having researched the shit out of the game at places like the Tamriel Foundry and Eldersouls for months before my first beta weekend.
I'm not saying it doesn't get better once you're in your first full-sized zone - it does - but the starter island (I went AD first) had lots of things that kept me interested and amused: chests to lock-pick, provisioning recipes to cook for outstanding 30 minute buffs to health, stamina or magika, Sky Shards to find, quests to do, skill line descriptions to read and digest, new combat mechanics to get used to... I wasn't bored for a second.
But back to the OP...
This new positive mood in this forum is essentially what I've been predicting would happen after the NDA drop and after more got into larger beta events for months.
There has been a lot of theoretical negativity here based on the perceived consequence of design decisions and how those might work or not... now we all know. Not a lot of need to theorize. Instead we're just sharing real experiences of the things we like and what we don't like.
The discussion's got meat to chew on now.
I believe a combination of expectations, a sense of entitlement and wannabe game dev attitude is a large part of the problem around here. If some new game is announced you have people putting their expectations on it and others who wait to hear information before deciding on a game. The later is reasonable. We all want great games to play but we get hung up on issues around here.

Well, it could be that those who bashed the game have said what they had to say and now we can just get some positive things.
Or that actual explanations can be had and people can weigh those depending on their likes and dislikes. And of course, more people getting beyond 10.
The second beta I was in I tried to level quickly becasue I wanted to experience the pvp. I didn't really enjoy the experience. When I went back with another character and took my time, not having to worry about getting to 10 but just "exploring", taking in crafting, etc, I enjoyed myself much more.
Perhaps that's part of it. There are people who are more interested in the pvp and having to go through a deliberately paced pve section was turning them off?

I think there has been a shift somewhat, although for many people, it's like kicking a dead horse to keep coming into these threads and speaking our opinions so maybe it has quieted down because of that as well. Because they decided to lock races with factions, it is still difficult to stomach that only one of the three starter zones has been acknowledged as the better experience (one I admit I didn't play). While I can understand that the early levels are fine for many, there are more than a few vocal criticisms of them being boring and turning players off so that may need to be addressed.
Now that the NDA has lifted, many of us are reading and seeing things we never made it to. Now people say you shouldn't comment on the game since it changes dramatically after 10 and that is fine, but if 2 of your 3 starter zones turn people off and it is not just a few players, then there is a problem and no amount of white knighting the game will change that. I can admit that much of the game looks fine and some of my causes for concern may have been dispelled after watching and reading other people experiences, but none of that really changes the complaints I personally experienced, though it does give me hope that the game improves. I couldn't put my finger on just one issue I had with the game, only that I personally couldn't stomach more than a few hours and that is not common for me because I try to give games a fair shot. So I can agree with the OP that it has quieted down since the NDA was lifted, But I attribute that more to people haven already said their piece more than opinions being swayed.
Would you agree with me that there is way much more people possitive and interested in the game then before...
I was an absolute hater until NDA dropped.
Now, just about everyone's saying: "Level 3-10 was shit unless you were Dominion. Special nod to the Daggerfall starting zone. The rest of the game is great." and then went on to tell me a lot of things I wanted to hear.
Being that I was a Breton Sorcerer who found Stros M’Kai to be the most inane, boring zone I've ever seen... yeah, I had a very negative impression of the game after Beta Weekend.
Now, I'm slowly but surely coming around. At least they didn't frontload the content with polish and neglect the end game like most WoW Clones of the last 10 years.
You were an absolute hater until NDA dropped and you are slowly but surely coming around. Doesn't that stike you as bad in any way? Do you ever take the time to self-reflect on your behavior? Not trying to slam you but it sounds like your hate wasn't appropriate. I guess I am asking, will you learn anything about yourself and how you think from this?

Or maybe he was like me and formed an opinion only on what he experienced. Since then he has heard that things get better and he wanted to like the game so he is willing to look deeper into other peoples accounts of their gameplay and give it another shot. At least that is what it is for me. It's not I did anything wrong and need to self reflect, it's just that if the game opens up after a certain point then they needed to make the early stuff interesting enough to give me a reason to continue on.

I think that's very much a factor... and it would be a relatively easy quick fix for them to do by just lowering the entry requirement.
Mind you, IDK how effective a level 2 with only one skill on their bar would be when bolstered to 50, but I'm all for letting people go have a look and fill their boots.
Matter of fact, they'd probably enjoy the relatively safe slow pace a lot more once they've had their ass handed to them repeatedly for an hour or so

lol, yes, put a cone on his head and make him sit in the corner until he comes around even further while allowing time for self reflection lol.
I enjoyed the game right from the start.. Before Michael Gambons voice in the prison it was kinda drab but once they added his voice it was even enjoyable and actually made me excited to escape. All of the starter areas I thought were well done and enjoyable. I didnt reach level 10 on any of my characters so didnt even participate in any pvp or dungeons outside of the first public dungeons you can enter.

A lot of it is to do with the game being terrible from 1-10. I understand some people like it but a great many didn't hence the negativity. If it wasn't for a beta leak site that continuously kept telling people like me the game opened up and got better when you hit the 4th zone of the game then I would of never slogged through them on the last day of beta (my 3rd beta event mind you) to see for myself.
There's still issues with melee combat though. If they can fix that and redo or speed up those first few levels then the game has a chance.
As for the OP, Yes I feel there has been some positive but I also believe in many of the negative previews from the media sites. This game isn't special, nor is it innovative enough for me. It still is unknown whether or not this game becomes another 3 mother in a long line of 3 mothers. I'm holding out hope it isn't but many of the decisions is proving otherwise.

Thank you for acknowledging our criticism of these starter areas. I've played all 3 and found all bad. The Daggerfall areas were passable but barely. Dominion's were the worse for me because the starting areas were way too small and offered very little exploration potential.
As the old saying goes, where there's smoke there's fire. And there's been a ton of smoke about the starting experience in ESO.

Originally posted by gestalt11 Don't confuse my disdain for reviewers with being positive about the game. This game has a lot of problems. I will probably play it because of some of the good points it has (skill system, exploration and AvA). But its got some real problems. Of course it is also coming out almost exactly as I expected so no real sour grapes for me either.
Curious about "a lot of problems"...can you be more specific? I am by no means a fanbois of the game, but I AM an Elder Scrolls and MMO junkie. Beyond the QUEST ISSUES (which were stated by one of the Devs during beta to have been mostly resolved in the retail version) and the "stuck in converstaion" bug, I found the game to be actually quite stable and enjoyable. Particularly compared to a lot of the other MMO betas I've been privy to.
Just curious as all, not meaning to derail the post or give grief to people's opinions...
I don't mean bug ridden, I mean they have a number of design issues and content things that I think are problems and some business decisions that are problematic. There whole phasing thing, for example, is not well done. Won't stop me from playing and to some extent I agree with tier direction but it clearly has some rather hinky problems that should be smothed over. There are a lot of things like that hanging about like sore hangnail on the game.
I must be weird because I actually like it from level 1.
I actually enjoyed it once I was past the "escape". I had no problems with the Ebonheart pact beginner zone but then again I have a great deal of patience and don't mind "slower things".

I enjoyed it from level 1 as well. The first escape didn't bother me, because I was too busy trying to figure out how everything worked, and I absolutely loved talking to the guy with the pot on his head. Going through it again and again was less exciting, but I was able to complete it in roughly 5 minutes the third time around.
With the starter zone post-escape, I made sure to listen to the characters and had fun coming up with responses to whatever they said. I actually started Daggerfall Covenant, of which I've heard people -really- complain about the first zone. Maybe they were just trying to rush through and follow quest arrows, but I had a really good time with the dialogue from all of the core NPCs (the ones you recruit.) Sure the environment is nothing special, and the things you kill aren't terribly exciting, but the actual crew NPCs have very distinct personalities and definitely had someone with an ear for dialogue working on them. You just have to use your imagination to fill in the blanks when it comes to your tasks as part of the quest... kind of like you're reading a book.
Sure you can only explain why you dislike some thing for so long, why stick around. I got everquest next landmark and that alpha feels like it has had 100x more to it than anything i touched in eso, and all i can do in it is build with voxels. But yep didnt like eso, felt cheap to me personally maybe its because im an animator and i find the animations in it destroying my will to live as jumping and looking like your hitting a brick ceiling is just so so wrong.
You always get the hype ramp up at this time when the nda drops give it a week or two after launch and you will see the real opinions once again, it will be like swotor all over again.
I totally didn't make it past lvl 10 and the bulk of my negative impressions was based on that experience. I started as a Nord, expecting an experience roughly similar to Skyrim and found nothing of the sort. But even if the game gets better beyond lvl 10, the combat still felt kind of floaty. I'm still on the fence about pre-ordering but that's a step up from my previous disposition of not coming anywhere near the game at all.
Would you agree with me that there is way much more people possitive and interested in the game then before...
TESO sucks for being bland and mediocre. That make you happy? It's not just the starter experience the whole bleeding game is mediocre and like most people I've already written my piece of mind on the subject enough, in some detail, and mostly moved on to other games of interest with more potential outside of keeping tabs on a few points for when it goes F2P. It's like we are dealing with a load of forum marketers paid to post positivity regardless of truth thinking some ray of light bounced off Meridia's tight and authoritarian little daedric arse opening a path for them through the catacombs wailing all the criticism was just the groaning of a vocal minority amongst the dead.
Sure there's a lot more substance in most posts now but far less volume and that is more an indicator of waning interest than anything else. It's not really a good thing prelaunch to find the player herd is moving on already and as the only big time MMORPG of note nearing release learn that you can barely break into the top 10 on the preorder sales charts. They are being out preformed by a cross platform console South Park RPG for god's sake...
A bunch off MMO addicts are positive about a game that hasn't released yet? Its not really surprising that people are hyped up for the game right now. Getting people to be excited in February is not really the point though. Let me know in July about how positive everything is. I really hope it works out, could use another MMO that is doing well, but I have my doubts. I am not a PvP player so it doesn't look like the game is geared towards my tastes.
Before the NDA dropped people would say "wait till the NDA drops, then I'll really be able to say what I think" and I thought perhaps there would be far more negative opinions than there actually were.
In fact, I learned some useful information, particularly around the RVR which swayed me to purchase the game, despite not even trying it for myself. (yeah, I'm weird like that, don't like to ruin my launch experience by burning myself out during betas)
So yes, I think things are turning out to be more positive, but perhaps we'll see what happens after another beta event goes by.

Heck, maybe I'll even give it a quick peek.
I think the portion I highlighted in red can be explained because a lot of the media had their NDA's lifted before many of us did and rather than re-hash what they said many of us felt the same and agreed with what was already written and stated. It's not that people were saying "just wait till the NDA drops" because they had nothing negative to really say, only that so far there has been a lot of agreement with the few impression pieces floating around the boards since the press NDA was lifted.
I personally think it is a good sign that there isn't a lot more complaints than there have been and the negatives seem to be focused on the bland beginning and this view is shared by many. I agree that since the AvA was elaborated on my opinion has lightened up and this is coming from someone who prefers PvE over PvP.

The NDA dropped? For everyone?
Since when?
LOL, since Saturday:

Well said.
