"We will not be Pay To Win. It is our feeling that free players are an important part of the user base and they add to the community. We don’t want those players to feel that they are at an unfair disadvantage just because they haven’t paid. While there may be things like skill gain increase boosts, we’re looking at lower increases than the 100%+ than has become standard in modern MMOs. We also don’t plan on adding items of power, such as potent armor, weapons or fittings. We do feel that players should earn whatever they get. That having been said, we do have to generate revenue in some way."
Cash-Shop will include:
"Account perks for one. Things like extra bank, inventory or character slots. Cosmetic items such as different armor or weapon looks. Non-combat oriented cosmetic or convenience items such as new hairstyles or furniture may also be available. We’ll explore and adjust as necessary."
Allow me a suggestion: Going to the official Website to look for first-hand information might be the best and fastest option to clear up any question. You are referring to a KS perk, nothing more. Cheers.
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.
Thanks, but the links doesn't really answer the question. The housing faq only sais that plots will be available for purchase, not what currency or price. The only thing I could find was that kickstarter perk.
I'm actually interested in this game and I will pay if I start. It just seemed a bit steep.
because The Repopulation is the only game that, to me, is being designed as an actual MMORPG....not the current industry standard definition of what its become.
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
I have seen what awesome things the engine is capable of, and EQ:N seems like the only true next gen MMO. I also deeply respect how the SOE devs are handling the development, being transparent and open to discuss their stuff in the making.

For me, its ESO even though I was originally unimpressed and underwhelmed by first beta experience with the game. Now I can't wait for it and every other game is boring in comparison. I've got over ten MMO's on my hard drive and I'm just tired of them all. ESO is the first one to come along that has made me feel like I used to feel back in the day with DAoC so I'm very excited. I'm gonna try to play some WvW in GW2 while I wait for ESO to launch but it's just not the same. The maps are too small so everything's so zergy in GW2. Ugh. Between ESO and Game of Thrones, April can't come soon enough!!
My apologies for the slow response here. We've been in crunch time getting the game ready for a big batch of new testers next month. Someone just pointed out this thread to me.
You will be able to earn plots through normal gameplay. Basically you will need to find an empty plot and use a crafted item to claim it. There will be different crafted items for different plot sizes. What the backers will receive here is the crafted item on launch day which will give them a chance to claim a good spot where they wish to have a home. You don't need to back to have one of these homes, but it will help you claim a good spot. It should also be noted that this is for open world housing, not instanced housing. Instanced housing simply requires paying a fee and being assigned a plot.
Maybe eso if i played the elder series, which i have not. The mmo on its own only has the pvp aspect as the main draw, so I am going to wait to see a bit more.
Other than that, WS looks interesting, and ofc EQN/EQNL.
I would say on paper EQN sounds more to what I would enjoy, but I have not seen how the combat plays out, among other mmo systems other than animations, art, and EQNL.
The only informed decision i could make about is WS being something that delivers on combat and other fun mechanics for an mmo.

Mainly because it looks different to your usual WOW clones like... you know, all the rest of them.
Still waiting on archeage as well.
Everyone talks about this supposed and mythical "WoW Clone" even though there isnt a single game that is a clone of WoW weird. Sure there are a lot of games that share some similarities with World of Warcraft. Just like World of Warcraft shares similarities to the MMO's that came before it. But in order for a MMO to be a "WoW Clone" every part of it must be exactly the same as World of Warcraft, and sadly no MMO fits that description.
"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

I think in general when people call something a WoW Clone they are usually referring to theme park style of gameplay that WoW popularized. The biggest difference between WoW and games that came before it was that quests became the main way to level. It also made gameplay easier and more soloable in previous games. No game is a clone of WoW of course in that regard, but I think those are the main points that people mean when they call something a wow clone.
Those features existed in previous games, but on the same level as WoW. After WoW, they became the standard.
ESO hands down. It will be the next 800 gorilla. EQN could have been the new king, but leave it to Sony to @$% the bed and bastardize the EQ brand by creating a cartoony enhanced version of Minecraft that will only appeal to kids.
While not a true MMO, this reimagining of the space sim that created the genre, Elite: Dangerous captures some of those virtual world aspects so many MMOs are missing, within its gargantuan, seamless universe.
I'm also getting hyped by Warlords of Draenor, the upcoming WoW expansion. Listening to their player base they're striving to make dungeons more challenging and less linear again. I don't care too much about the garrisons, but the retouched character models have been long overdue. Looks like it was worth the wait.

I think you should remove the notion that your butt spouts only truth from your rhetoric.
I WAS super excited for The Repopulation until I discovered that it has large forced PvP zones and very small safe zones on the normal servers. In the past couple of days, I have become excited for Wildstar.
EQN after having the smallest amount of hands on tools in the alpha of EQNL, I can see however great potential.
Then its Warhammer, and hoping that finally after 15 years of attempts to get off the table top and onto our screens, hope they find a way to make it suck less than a Stephen KIng Movie with him playing a cameo role.

I have a question for The Repolulation guys.
It seems to be based very much on real cash? The minimum plot size for land first appear in the $350 tranche.
Will you be able to get land without spending $350 when it launches?
That's really the only thing that keeps me from backing the project.

Having tried ESO and Wildstar they aren't anywhere near my list anymore, both complete rubbish.
I'm going to have to say EQN though until we see some solid details about it I'm not going to hold my breath.
There are some smaller games that I'll keep my eye on when they get a bit closer.

That's kind of "sad".
Is there any way to make it "not" vaporware? Is it worth it to work on something that will never see the light of day?
