I think its great. I found two places with special crafting in the last beta. I didn't have enough time though to research and make the three required for a set bonus. Still, it peaked my interest.
Both of them required that you had two traits researched in a particular item to craft the special item.
/edit: so there's a little more to it than just finding the spot.
I think its fantastic. Crafting used to be awsome in games but it kind of fell away since WoW where crafting is more just about geting it maxed for the stat boost to your char you dont make anything of real value.
Elder is going oldschool and allowing end game gear to be made via crafting and adding a lot of very cool depth elements to the crafting such as the sets and what not I think it speaks well to the potential for long term play.
They already sold me on the game they just gotta keep me paying each month we shall see
The internet makes this more of a tedium than a great feature. I'm not too sure that looking something up and then having to walk to a location makes crafting any more interesting than it already is. It's just a minor inconvenience towards getting what you want.

This is why we can't get virtual worlds. It's all turning into 15 minute lobby games.
OP, when I GM rpgs I have special crafting locations for special items. It's great.

It sounds like a pretty nice idea within the confines of a tabletop RPG.

Inconveniece is important to mmoRPGs. Everything isn't always fun, quick, and easy in the digital world.
MMOs like LoL and WoT should be quick easy with no inconveniece.
Yes that is great, it really says they care about unique sets you can craft which is welcomed by me. Crafting is my top fun activity to do after adventuring, so yes, please as many crafting features and special things as possible to enrich the game is definitely welcomed.

I suppose. But really part of my point is that it is actually quick and easy. All you do is look it up on the internet and walk to a destination. As long as you're willing to admit that it's pretty much just an inconvenience instead of some feature that is finally bringing crafting back to the old school or whatever, it makes sense to me.

Basically You want it all now. What you call inconvient some call earning.

No, I never said anything about wanting it all now. I called it a minor inconvenience. No big deal. Easy as hell to craft this stuff. A quick jaunt over the hillside to craft whatever I am looking for. And all thanks to the internet.

BTW, you didn't say you want it all now. I am saying you are the type who wants it all now. That is the impression you give me.

I guess you can try to read my mind or whatever. I actually have been playing EVE forever now and I wouldn't exactly call that a game where you get it all now. Actually, I'd say you have to be more patient in it than other MMORPGs.
But yeah, I suppose if you chose to never look anything up, you would probably never know where half of these stations were. You would be at an inherent disadvantage compared to other people if you don't use the internet at all, and I'm sure there are a lot of people that don't mind that.

In all due respect I will say that you have it kind of wrong. World of Warcraft in the beginning did have some cool ideals for a new game. I remember when going to MC (when the game was young) and you had to get your FR gear up to par. As a tank I ran Blackrock Spires (if I am not mistaken) so many times just to use the Black Avil just to get starter gear for MC and Ony. They somehow just lost all control over their game afterwards and it just didn't have the same taste.
Yes and I must agree with ya that ESO is going Oldschool and bringing back crafting the way it is suppose to be and that is fun. I look forward to this because I don't have to level everything hell I can spend a whole day just crafting.
I can also agree on the fact this game does seem like it has the elements to be a long lasting game. For example I knew when playing the betas that you shouldn't just run through the Wailing Prison so fast and not look around. I made one toon and spent about 30-45 mins just searching chest over and over and came up with all plate gear, new shield, new weapon and a bunch of mats to start me off on crafting which leveled me up in crafting to about level 3 alone.
I hope that the unique crafting set tables are not the only interesting content. I hope that there are alot more of this type of content that will keep us playing for a long time. I have to applaud the devs for adding such a unique crafting facet to their game.
I also like the werewolf and vampire content too. That is another unique part of ESO that will keep me playing. Personally, I love to explore, so I hope to find many more hidden gems as I play this game.

How about a 1% chance that a wilderness crafting place is a monster that traps you inside until you craft certain things in it?

I LOVE it. I wrote about it my 'It's The Little Things' article. Probably one of my favorite features of ESO.
You also have to make sure you're facing south, on darksday, during double earth weather.
10 points to whomever gets that first.
I totally agree with you.

The harder you make crafting, fewer people will do it, and so crafting might be rewardable..
