This exact thing happened to me. I was crazily excited for the game with all the contents they have promised and it's still there in the game, no doubt in that; But i just can't get myself to play it every time i launch it. The max i have played it at a stretch is probably 2 hours. Comparing that to ESO, i only played it for a weekend but i played a full 12 hours continuously before my sleep forced me to stop. It sucks because i really like the WIldstar Devs who are very open but i just can't get into it.

From the typical reaction that ESO is getting from many gamers, I'm starting to think a lot of it is due to "cartoon" burnout.  Maybe that is why you aren't enjoying Wildstar as much as ESO.  I loved WoW for many years, but I frankly can't stomach going back to it or going into any other cartoonish game.  I can tolerate it for so long, but I have and will always prefer realistic and sensible graphics over cartoon / stylized graphics with exaggerated proportions.

please, let's stop glorifying this guy.  he's nothing but an uninformed individual.

Yeah, the quests they had him doing at the very beginning were pretty boring. Does nobody know how to make the beginning of an MMO fun and fast paced anymore?

He could not follow simple game instructions.  Why would anyone watch this and take what he has to say seriously?  The internet is a poor medium for quality communication.  So many people want to say something and be heard but are incapable of  expressing anything of value.  Instead they just say whatever comes into their head no matter how stupid it might be. But I guess that is what the internet mainly is a breeding ground for stupidity and this Angry Joe person seems pushing the boundaries of stupidity to new highs. Don't tell Al Gore.  I bet he would be very sad.

Pretty funny how, so far, everyone disagreeing with AJ has done nothing but spew out ad-hominems. Except for one person who noted frustration that he was clicking on objects instead of pressing 'v' and then "retaliating" by going on a completely unrelated rant about ESO. Not all the way through the thread  yet, but maybe there are some giving actual responses. Don't know yet.

Point is... If he said things that you find factually wrong, or otherwise disagree with for some reason or another, then articulate those things. That would actually be a useful response worth reading; a worthwhile discussion.

But when all you can do is start name-calling and insulting the person instead, all that indicates is that you don't like what they're saying, but have nothing relevant to say in response.

You just ranted for an entire paragraph there, and said absolutely nothing.

As far as I know this game is still under NDA? Same thing happened with ESO. People had strong opinions but others were not allowed to print their own since they didn't want to violate the NDA. Not disagreeing about the poster you quoted, but what would you like people to write when they are bound by a NDA?

As for Angry Joe review, I may disagree with him on some points but it's not that big a deal. It's nothing personal. I have been lurking on these forums for ages and posting for a little while now that I watch out for opinions from certain posters that share a lot of the same views as me. I found this to be my best bet when looking for reviews of a game. Give it time, check out the actual reviews and go from there.

I have only watched a couple of Angry Joe's videos, don't follow him regularly, so I wasn't sure if we shared the same taste. At the end of the video though he talked about picking ESO over Wildstar and that helped me decide if I should still be following Wildstar. To me they are two very different games. Wildstar is PVE oriented and ESO is PVP oriented. Not even sure why they are competing for his time. They do very different things, why not play them both? I am a PVE player and ESO wasn't for me. I will continue to follow Wildstar and see how it plays out. Once the game is released and a lot more reviews go up I will make my decision.

Why play the knock offs when you can play the original WOW. I will pass.

I always was a fan of their videos made by wildstar developers, they made the game always look very fun and action packed. From what I've seen in Joe's video, it killed all my interessts. It feels like any other MMO and has nothing special. I visited their homepage, it actually feels like they will try to focus a special community.

Not just you.  I like Joe, but he looks drunk or high in this video.  A bit embarrassing, really.

Yeh I actually picked up on him being stoned too.  No biggie because games can be very fun when stoned or when tripping but for a video preview meant for the public, not too professional.  Overall though he seems to make some points about the game as to what I was suspecting though I will found out for sure what I feel this weekend.

Being stoned is his excuse for flip flopping. This video is clearly a case of trolling just like reposting it on this Web page is. I have a hunch it's to deflect attention form the flaws of ESO the game that comes in red flag wrapping paper.

I think he hit the nail on the head, the game is really just a traditional MMO with a few extra things tagged on. WOW clone with extra's !!

I guess I will have to disagree with him.  I went into this year thinking that ESO was going to be the game for me. Hated the cartoon look of Wildstar.

After getting to test drive both this is what happened.

ESO = one of the most boring MMO's I have ever laid my hands on. I am almost 40 years old and have been gaming for almost all of them. So that is saying something. Now I know alot of people will say it get's better after level 10 well I only made it to level 9. In my eyes if a If a game puts me to sleep for the 1st 9 levels I am out.

So I thought well no MMO's for me until maybe EQN. Then I received an invite for WildStar. I had no interest in the game but with a lack of things to play at the moment I gave it a whirl. This is what I found.

WildStar = While I was very critical and skeptical of the art and environment to the point that I thought I hate it. Well once logging in and spending a few hours in it. ..... I was a changed man. It works and goes perfectly for the direction and overall campiness of the game....  ( I liken it to Spaceballs)  I love the humor in the game. I like the races. I just found myself not able to log out or wanting to login while at work. Something that has not happened in a long time.  Will it last ? Who know but I will enjoy it while it does.

I will agree with Joe on the Dominion starting areas.... however I found the Exiles starting areas much better.

Angry Joe is unimpressed that the starting area starts things off slowly, teaching you the mechanics like how to jump and find things, and is as such boring. I guess he assumes everyone going into the game is an expert on how to play?

He's unimpressed by the tired old system of fetch and kill quests. After 10 years, for players like me, the thought of questing in this way  is almost painful. Doing it is painfully frustrating. I won't do it.

Seems that everyone bashing Joe's impressions of WildStar are the same people who were praising him when he did ESO's first impressions video.

    Odd....

A thread like this speaks volums about how the community on MMORPG.com has degenerated. A guys like Angry Joe can't say anything without tons of people getting acidic and riding personal attacks.

It is sad to see how people lack manners and social dignity just because they are anonymous behind their computers. Or maybe they are like this everywhere. Who knows. When people seriously need to attack a person as drug addict or illiterate I am so out of this place. It seems too many people here have ZERO self control over their animalistic pack passions to bite everything that doesn't smell like belonging to your pack. Is it a reflex you guys don't control, or do you do that knowingly? I seriously would like to know.

Is there ANY moderation anymore? Can people now attack someone on every possible way?

Angry Joe rarely steers me wrong. I think developers are going to have to come to terms with the fact that regurgitating the same format is not going to work anymore no matter how cutsey the wrapping or the minor variations on the theme. They successfully got away with it for years but now everyone is bored with that format and the investment is not going to be worth the return any more. Now I don't claim to have the answers as to what they could do to spice things up, I just know that they need some fresh ideas. And fast.

No need because there's an ingame method to pay for your subscription.  And if I was to guess any hardcore MMO'er will never have to touch a subscription.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Though I'm not a fan of his (I find his "wrap ups" much more engaging then watching him and his buddies play) they starter area was horrible.

I have no problem with slow. Not at all. I LOVED the leveling speed in early Lineage 2. I found the slower leveling the first x levels in ESO to be fine (though I hated the start tutorial area).

The tutorial area I played was horrible to my tastes. I felt like it was "so much" exposition and not enough "doing". When I finally got to the library I could stand it no more and submitted feedback.

As I said above  I also asked myself "why am I finding these cambots". Sending players out and telling them to "do this just because" is not engaging game play.

Wild Star might be the greatest game ever, but that tutorial area was just mind numbingly dull. If you found it engaging then more power to you.

Starter areas I liked (and by "starter area" I mean the very first place you enter the game which is usually a tutorial of some type)

Guild Wars 2 - it was engaging, there were reasons to "click on" things and it moved along at a good speed

Rift - again, moved along, definite reasons for why you were doing things.

Lineage 2 - no tutorial you were dropped into the world and had to figure things out. That worked for me though it might be much for som

Vanguard - dropped you in, open world, you just started doing quests and exploring

I don't mean to "crap" on wildstar but I had signed up for beta a long time ago, recently received the stress test invite and decided "what the heck, I'll help break things" and can honestly say the starter tutorial was horrible to my tastes. I almost logged off during it but felt I should at least finish the tutorial and give feed back and get into the world. started deactivating things (or was it activating, I forget) and knew I was done.

    His kinda right.

Wildstar is so close with FreeRealms and other kids game. I mean, is way to cartoonish to get it seriously. I am totally disappointed about the game.

Not putting that is a NCSoft game..

  • SuperNickSuperNick Member UncommonPosts: 460

He hates MMOs. Wildstar is a MMO.

Why would you ever listen to someone who is already walking into a genre disliking it? It's not like he gives fair, just reviews. He gives hugely opinionated reviews; it's his "thing" to attract viewers.

Should I go watch how a devout catholic feels about porn? Maybe I should ask a war veteran if he enjoys WW2 shooters?

I'm sure once He gets some wildstar swag he will be like... "after getting past level 10 i'm really getting addicted! this game is a WoW killer!"

Depends how sponsors throw money into.. I start to get disgusted by some "celeb" streamers changing their opinions over night about some games.. I've been watching Towellie last night.. he was clearing making efforts to play Wildstar, was more like a job what he dont wanted to do it. I am pretty sure the stream was sponsored and he got no way out.. overall money or money right? hahaha

You really do get some okay information from him, but I spend more time watching the video than listening to him. Angry Joe is a fun diversion from time to time with his rants.

Got to level 16, wanted to try 1st dungeon on level 20, but questing is freaking boring, lacking of story/lore (I'm fking lorewhore), so I'll just pass. I still love game, graphic, combat and cant wait to see raids, but random, generic kill/collect/kill/collect/kill xyz mobs 100 times just to level up, all day just  simple pissing me off. If they wanted to make Wow vanilla feeling, I'd rather play Wow vanilla on private server.

I have been playing the beta, I just cant believe all the hype that was build around this game, Is without a doubt the worst P2P game of the last  few years. Is a huge step back in the MMO genre, it looks like a 10 years old mmo, and im not talking about the graphics.

Huge step back? Im wondering if you played the same game as I have, as for me someone whos come from AC/DAoC/WoW/AoC/WAR/SWTOR I see this game as a huge step forward. Did you even leave the first 3 level tutorial area? Because you defend TESO saying its real game doesnt start till level 10 so I wonder if you gave WildStar the same length of attention
