As we all know you can block with every weapon, that being said what is the point then for using a shield?
Why would I use a shield to tank for example when I can dual wield and do more damage with offhand attacks or even a 2 hander?
Does using a shield block more damage then blocking without one?
Also how much damage does block stop, 10%, 50% ?
I can seem to find the answer on this, anyone know?

I seem to remember the shield blocking more damage in ESO. Though that's the way it is in Skyrim. I don't remember how it worked in Oblivion though there was blocking, I think it was similar.
Morrowind you blocked based upon stats and I imagine some chance.

Thank you, I found the answer using esohead , sword and board trait give you more block, so yeah more damage stopped
1 hand and shield has abilities that make blocking better.
Increased block mitigation, increased movement speed while blocking, reduced projectile damage and a reduction in cost for blocking.
no one seems to know anything about the mechanics of this game.
Outside of the trait 'sword and board', does a shield have any innate blocking superiority?
And Sword and board is 10% per rank extra mitigation. 10% of what?
