Are you using it dual wield or a big two hander or with a shield? It'll share the skills that any other dual wield or two hander or one hand and shield would use.....
I saw more than a few people using 'em this weekend.
From what I recall Mace is the same in terms of abilities as dagger, 1 hand sword, and 1 hand axe. Additionally, they all can be dual wield in any combination.
EDIT:
One ability in the dual-wield line adjusts it's effect based on the weapons wielded, everything else is the same regardless:
Twin Blade and Blunt – While dual wielding, axes have a chance to inflict a bleed damage over time effect, maces deal a percentage of bonus damage against heavily armored targets, swords deal a flat percentage more damage, and daggers have increased critical strike chance.

Its basically just a sword huh? Is it any slower? Any more damage like in skyrim?
Confirmed, I used a mace and it fell under the 1 handed weapon and shield category as far as skills went. And it was a powerful weapon as well, doing more damage than the sword I was able to get by that time.
I used it, and I found it to be extremely clunky. I found melee combat in general to be clunky. I enjoyed ranged combat intensely, but they really need to polish up their melee combat between now and launch.
