I think you should chill out mate.

First you called me simple minded, then clueless, while I was just having a bit of fun.

If there is someone that needs to be more tollerant, this person is you.
That fact that people don't agree with you doesn't give you the right to call people names.
And to your information I didn't insult anyone.........yet
If you care to read a couple of post back, you will discover that I have an opinion on the subjct, I just don't take it too seriously like you do.
And just to make it clear, I wasn't referring to anyone in this post, but to people that troll every single forum of every single game, praising the virtues of permadeath, even in games that are not meant to be aimed to CORE players.

So try to keep the discussion clean please. image

Cool man.. I can understand, you didn't mean it in any serious sense. I got the impression that you were saying it to try to discredit people who like permadeath.. and I was wrong.

If only there were a way to incorporate tone into posts, like in anyone's speaking voice, a lot of these misunderstandings would be avoided.

And I'm sorry for calling you those names... I felt like you'd slighted people who value permadeath on purpose, so I felt the need to reply in the same sense.. but I was wrong about it in the first place. So I apologize.

Both have features that completly kill roleplay and immersiveness and the focus seems to be in powergaming. A good example of this is that both have this system for instant global communication with every other player.

What the heck? First in your original post the ONLY thing you said was you are looking for a Perma-Death MMORPG. You said nothing about role-playing.

Next, EVERY single MMORPG ever made allows players to talk to each other in game, and instantly. IF you do not want to talk to anyone, then ignore the chat, and do not talk to anyone LOL! And being able to instantly talk to any player in no way "completly ruins roleplay". But back to the main subject, in your first post, and even in the title of this thread - you specifically mention only perma-death and nothing else.

I cannot speak for Mangband (since I have never played it) but after you claim you have tried Strive For Power, you now complain you dislike it because it does not suit your role-playing needs.

So maybe i am looking for something more than permadeath ::::35::
But i was looking for just minimal roleplay quality other than permadeath. Not a big deal.

You need to make up your mind and decide exactly what you are looking for. BTW it is impossible to find a 100% good role-playing MMORPG. Why? Because it is impossible to get thousands of players to all role-play. IF you are sooo into role-playing, then either join a role-playing guild, or start one yourself. Then every time you log on, play with your fellow role-playing loving guildmates. See? Your problem has been solved. Any more excuses? image image So "minimal" role-playing quality can be attained. image

Trials of Ascension is utter overkill!!!! It is a freaking wet dream.

Minor flaw: still just a wet dream.

As far as I know Trials of Ascentsion is a stand alone RPG. You may as well play Diablo 2: Lords of Destruction. And pick hardcore mode. Which is still fun perma-death. But in a MMORPG setting, with thousands of other players, in the same gameworld, which never ends after you log off - there is only Strive For Power. Which has been successfully doing perma-death for more than 2 years. It is also 1 server for all players. Along with many other unique features.

Thanks to the poster who mentioned Magband. I will check it out in the future when I have some free time. image

Permadeath would mean that most groups or friends who play online would have to be very careful all the time.

Strive For Power easily deals with this problem you mention. SfP allows every player to play with 5 or more characters at the same time.  So it is up to you to heal "yourself". If you die, you cannot blame other players, it is your own fault for not healing yourself right LOL!

The other big thing is server rules and balancing becomes a LOT harder - you don't want to killing too many lowbies and have them get fed up and leave the game - balancing your bad guys so they don't always kill you in a fight would be neccesary otherwise poeple would never advance very far.

Life is tough. Lowbies who give up easily get weeded out and what is left is lowbies who learn the game and become better players. Too many players are impatient, have no attention spans, refuse to take a few mins to read up on the game, the instructions, or to attempt to even learn to play right. They deserve what they get.  They either learn the easy way (reading up on the game, being patient, etc...) or the hard way (keep dying and dying until they are forced to learn.)

When UO, EQ, AC, first came out death hurt badly. Even when SWG first came out death hurt. Players learned how to play right in order to not die. Some did quit yes. But the majority stayed and kept playing. SWG right now, along with other current MMORPGs treat death as a joke.

Strive for Power  is proof that a perma-death MMORPG game done right can be and is successfull. Some will quit, but the majority will stay and continue playing. There are different types of monsters. Areas more dangerous than other areas. (In SfP, the farther away from town you go, the more dangerous it is. Plus you can see far away before monsters have a chance to attack. Then stay clear of that area.) Also in SfP the majority of monsters, even hard ones, rarely kill in 1 hit. They usually do 4 to 10 hits to kill a player's character. Plenty of time to decide to run away.

I like the idea, but not in this style game. In ROLE PLAYING SIMULATIONS (as opposed to GAMES) it could work.

Well, it has been successfully done. So it does not matter who likes it, does not like it. It has been proven to be successful. The only minor problem is 1 guy is financing SfP from his own pocket, and from donations. If he had access to 5 million to 25 million, then he could update the graphics to compete with modern MMORPGs. But the game features, game mechanics, game play in SfP easily compete with modern new MMORPGs. And in some ways blows them out of existance!
