The closest MMO games I know about and can work up excitement for are World of Darkness and Star Citizen, both of which are far away. Was looking into The Repopulation with some excitement a year ago or so, but then I never got an alpha invite and also the market was flooded with survival games so meh.

If I can't find an MMO to get interested in, I might have to buy Titanfall :/

And I've boycotted EA for 9 years...

That sucks you didn't like 3 of the big guns coming out.. Here are some others that are coming out that might be something to check out.. Archeage, Black Gold Online, Shroud of the Avatar and Trove. An MMORPG that is currently out and a lot of fun is Neverwinter.

If you like Diablo style games, Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms and Lineage 3 will be coming soon. Currently Marvel Heroes and Torchlight 2 are top of the genre and a lot of fun. The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot just went into open beta and is fun as well.

If you are into cards games check these out: Might and Magic: Duel of Champions, Hearthstone and Infinity Wars are 3 that are great and are out currently. Hex is coming and that looks awesome if you haven't seen it yet.

Just figured I would throw some other game out there for you to check out. Hope it helps ya find something you like.

Why don't you start by describing what you are looking for in an MMO?

EQ:N has an art style I am allergic to in pure fantasy games, so even if it theoretically had good gameplay I would not be able to approach it in a way as to not singe my eyes off. Wildstar has a similar kiddie art style but has Steampunk elements to mitigate it, sadly though it isn't very good, however it is at least mildly more entertaining than TESO. There is nothing new in this game however. TESO is a cynical cash grab with too many problems to even mention. However I mentioned some key ones here: link.

"MMO" is not a genre, it is a technology. So don't give me the old schtick about "maybe you don't like MMOs".

    What I am looking for:

    • Mature art style. Photoreal or gritty art direction/ graphics.
    • No overarching plot about "prophecies" or "ancient relics" or "heroes".
    • Actually requires grouping at certain points.
    • Intelligent writing
    • Doesn't try to waste your time any chance it gets.
    • Objective-based persistent raid PvP with ownership of resources is huge for me, however TESO did it completely wrong by devoting a zone to it away from leveling zones, and Cyrodiil itself is also completely symmetrical and gamey. Immersion, relevance and integration with PvE is key in this type of content. I will however play an MMO for PvE as well.
    • No obvious copy/pasting of content like TESO is rife with in early levels across factions.
    • If it is based on a big IP, it needs to be authentic to that IP, unlike TESO.

Basically, I wish I could play The Secret World for the first time again. But if I have to wait for World of Darkness and Star Citizen, I will.
    • Would say TESO qualify's, though not Photorealistic then again MMORPG's are not made 16vs16 multiplayer games where it's technicly possible. Atleats it has a more natural tone to it.
    • Your second point already would have made it clear to yourself you wouldn't have liked TESO, most likely you don't even like ES games or even RPG's do you?
    • TESO, sorry don't believe you can run certain dungeons solo or you might when severly out-leveled
    • I actually read books for that and with entertainment it's either a hit or miss. Example Star Wars my number one movie ever yet it's was'n't because of if it's "intelligent writing" as it was the complete package in how it was presented. Same for me when playing a MMORPG
    • Can''t comment on the PVP as I havn't experianced it much yet.
    • Not sure if the way you wrote it down or the way I seem to understand it is a bad thing?
    • Did you actually watch/listened to the cutscene's/quest's or did you just skip those dialoge's?

I really wonder what happens to those people who can't get into any of the present upcoming releases if those games they looking forward to will really be that game they want.
I can't deny looking forward to Star Citizen and The Repopulation. But till then as a gamer and a Elder Scroll fan I am looking forward for it's release.

I'm sorry but this is a ridiculous argument.  There is a reason they have things like movie previews.  Or game previews.

I don't need to play Hello Kitty Online to know i'm not going to like it.

And there been movie cinematic that made me think a movie was gonna be shit and when i watch it, it acualy realy good, same way the other way round great trailers but shitty game/movie.

You're reading too much into the analogy.  What i'm talking about is like seeing a movie preview for a movie telling the story of lets say a grouup of eco-terrorists' fight against the evil oil companies, when you are a person who (proudly) works in the oil industry.  Its EXTREMELY unlikely you will enjoy that movie, and far more likely that it will in fact make you angry.

Just like many of us are sick of quest hub singe player "MMORPGs".  I dont need to play that game to know im not going to enjoy it.  The information that is available is more than bountiful enough to tell me everything i need to know about the game to determine if its something i will enjoy or not.

What about Destiny and the Division? Have you looked at those?

I don't really think we are in a position to be picky in this day and age of an MMO market. Espectially on something so trivial as graphics. As much as I agree with the things you're looking for in a game, I don't see anything with that on the horizon coming in the near future. Potentially Pathfinder Online might be a great show, but then I don't know how that game will turn out and it is only just starting it's development process.

While I have my doubts about ESO, I think WS and EQN might bring enough to the party to interest you and you shouldn't wipe them off your list too early. Espectially not for graphics. I don't expect them to be revolutionary to encompassing. But if you treat them as minor oasis's in the desert of MMOs for the next coming years you might be able to find some shred of joy.

I also hope that if you should be so lucky to somehow win an extremely large sum of money. That you use it to design a better and new MMO.

Your post certainly shut them up didnt it.  As for your list, i pretty much agree with it in whole, although I'm not as allergic to the art style of something like wildstar as you.  Like with vanilla wow (which i avoided purely due to the art style), if there is nothing better to play i can still buckle down and look past it.  Unfortunately as you said with DisneyQuest: Next.  I would rather singe my eyeballs with a red hot poker.  Not to mention the 900 million other terrible aspects of the game.

I'm sorry but i have to call you out on this.  Saying that his opinion of that style of MMO's is myopic is actually myopic.  Justin Bieber can release a well produced record, recorded on high quality equipment, etc, etc, and i can still be of the opinion that its garbage.  Is that subjective, absolutely.  Is it myopic? Not in the slightest.

Calling out your calling out.  I could say something if I can't date Kate Beckinsale then I won't date and claim it is high standards.  Naturally, it would sound silly.  It's great if the OP wants hyper unrealistic standards, but it is wrong to complain when you don't have a game to play because of those standards.
