Tera/Aion or an alternative?

PixelPandaPixelPanda Member Posts: 35

Hi folks,

currently playing wow, its pretty fun, but I need something for in between. therefore i am looking for "asia" mmo.

Something like Aion or Tera comes to my mind, a little bit of anime or asian style, beautyfull colours and so on, you know what I mean :)

I dont mind a nice grind, love playing my character instead of oneshoting mobs :)

Had some fun with Aion when it came out, wasnt such a great fan of Tera when it first launched but would go back if it improved. Are there alternatives? The game should be playable in german or at least english.

Hope you know what I mean and can give me some feedback/suggestions.

Thanks alot :)

The wife and I have been playing the crap out of TERA lately. Best graphics and combat in the business in my opinion. Questing is too WoW/Rift on rails, but that's my only real complaint. Solid MMO.

    Just giving you more options.

Here's a recent top-10 list published by someone who is into Anime styled MMORPGs.

They aren't similar to TERA / Aion, those two didn't even make his or her list, but you might find something to your liking.

    1. Iris online
    2. Eden Eternal
    3. Flyff gold
    4. Cloud nine
    5. Elsword online
    6. Maplestory
    7. Fiesta online
    8. Grand fantasia
    9. Dragon nest online
    10. Aura kingdom

I'd recommend Dragon's Prophet, based on the OP.  I think the art style and especially the combat would appeal to you.  It has had a lot of grief since beta from forums, but I enjoyed it for a few months, but it was pretty grindy.  It is at least worth watching some videos of gameplay to see if it meets your needs.

I recently decided to replay Aion again. They've added a few new classes, gunner, aethertech and muse. So far me and my girlfriend are playing them both and from my POV I can say that the gunner is tons of fun. I feel like a freaking cowboy without a hat xD

Replaying TERA is next on the list once I hit the grind wall. But so far it seems NCSoft has revamped Aion's starter quests and the games is easier to approach. Rewards are boosted (in my opinion) Some new solo dungeons seem to be added.

Other than that yeah I would suggest Dragon's Prophet. Played it shortly, the combat was decent but from the get go you can tell that there is quite a lot of grind to it, even if it doesn't show at first. Just going through the menus you see all the RNG that eventually you will be forced to do to max out :)
