"You’ve spent years designing the game, building it the way you want..."

If this was the approach to begin with, then that was the first mistake. Any good designer knows that you involve the users every step of the way in development. If you don't, then you see more drastic changes happen later in development. Like we have seen here.

Zenimax used to be a development company, then they took an arrow to the knee?

    Someone had to go there!

I came in to this whole ESO thing with no clue what to expect. They seem a little wet behind the ears in some respects but they seem to have a talent for covering all the bases. Time will tell and I'm not going to treat this game like the OJ trial just because.

Unlike the author writing a good guy article to make sure he gets paid by mmorpg,i actually read a LOT and tons of articles and dev speeches ,what ever,i pay attention.

I remember, hmm maybe was 3-4 years ago,Zenimax was bantering around an article they had procured another 150 million from Providence investment, this after attaining 300 million the previous year which they used to buy out John Carmack's businesses.

What makes this significant is that they did not invest their own money.I have no idea who Providence investment is and why they are so quick to hand over money but i assume a ton of Zeni's profits go back to them.I know 450 million investment over 2 years is pretty darn crazy, but they are a giant so i guess they must be making some decent kickback from their investment into Zenimax.

IDK i think it is too complicated but just perhaps Zeni is not making much money for themselves on this game, could it hamper further development? There is another way to look at it,perhaps getting so much money given to them, they have a commitment to keep Providence coming back with more?

The way i look at it ,is Zenimax took this partner on for a reason, perhaps not confident in themselves, perhaps no money to manage the company further?I mean why take on a partner with such huge investment numbers and not keep all the profits to yourself?

I think without all the answers,it is quite naive to start calling them a GOOD GUY company.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

It is not only not true, it is also why so many games are so faceless.

There are no users (like category possessing identifiable opinion), there is a crowd of people who not only  have no consensus what they want, but also a lot of them not very bright, not very educated and their requests or suggestions (if coherent) could be really harmful to any game development.

What? They got feedback part of their game sacked and since they removed the terrible part of the game which they designed mind u that makes them great developers? Sounds like fail developers that can't design a decent starting zone after years of work on the game.

I'm sure all of this will be cleared up before launch :)

There are a few good developers: SOE, Trion and a few others come to mind; however, most get the hairy eyeball until proven otherwise through due course.

Zenimax has done a great job without the for a first attempt qualifier or anything else for that matter.  They listen to the community and more developers should take a page out of that book.

I continue to be amazed at the level of vitriol spewed forth by many in the gaming community if someone actually dares to say something positive about a game.

For so many of you it is just NO WIN.. Get negative feedback and don't address?  You suck.. Get negative feedback and do address, Well you still suck.. Really?

it has been said many times before but don't want to play the game?  No interest?  Doesn't fit on your pedestal? (What would???) Fine, don't play it.  Go away.

Critical commentary is good as DEMONSTRATED in this article,  I'm not suggesting  otherwise.  Negativity for the sake of being negative is without merit and doesn't serve any purpose.  It's easy to point the finger from the sidelines and be contrary. Want to be critical and earn some modicum of respect?  Have a point.  Have a basis for your outrage or please..crawl back in your little troll hole and wait for the next title announced so you can try and kill that before it launches. You're useless and nothing more than a tick on the body of innovation.
