Home Campaigns and more $$$ to change them?

VelocinoxVelocinox Member UncommonPosts: 1,010

First up, the last time I posted here everyone got really hurt by a question.. so let me say up front this is a question, not an accusation. I am not kicking your dog, and no matter what I say you'll still get to play your new game, nobody is trying to take it away from you, so let's keep it civil...

What are home campaigns and why do I have to pay more money beyond my subscription to change them?

'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

In-Game gold and alliance points are considered money above and beyond your subscription now?

    Interesting.

    Interesting.

So translating that to mature and civil communication, you're saying that changing home campaigns only cost in-game money?

They've said the first change is cheap just to give you one chance to correct a mistake. After that a change in permanent campaigns will be "costly" in Alliance points (the PVP currency) or in game gold or both. I don't think many of us knows what the cost will be because in the beta weekends you can change for free.

In addition to permanent changes, there is free "guesting." Which is just dropping into a campaign other than your own with friends or groups. There are some disadvantages to playing in those guest campaigns though. What they are (less alliance point gains? you loose your alliance wide buffs from your home campaign?) we're not sure.

    Great! Thanks.

So what is a home campaign are they just instances of the one cyrodil area or do they have thematic differences?

It's practically like choosing a server to play on

They are basically your server. Your PVP home campaign is where you play with and against the same people month after month for as long as you play the game. They are persistent... although there is a 90 day scoreboard that resets. Nothing else resets at the 90 day mark... keep ownership status and even your location there stays the same.

In the PVE megaserver on the other hand you can be in a version of an area with a few hundred people that are not from your campaign.

They have said that you'll have preferences you can pick (such as RP for example) that will put you in PVE with others that ticked the same selections. We also haven't seen that in beta yet.

As to thematic campaigns - it's possible but the only ones they have mentioned so far are more competitive ones for high level (Veteran Ranked) players. If you're in a guild all the members of that guild from one alliance will be put into the same campaign also.

In the European campaigns there will probably be language preferences as well.

They say that in one guild there can be ppl from different aliances. If a guild chooses to play in a home campaign as a specific alliance what happens then, only a part of guild that belongs to that aliance can join it ? Or the whole guild can join it and ppl from that guild will fight against their alliances ?

Ps. Sorry for my poor english

People in the same guild from other alliances have to be in a different campaign. So the same guild could be in 3 campaigns...I think... not 100% sure a guild can actually be in 3 campaigns.

The same restriction applies to your account as well: if you have one of your characters in a campaign, any other character you have from a different alliance has to be in a different campaign.

I can see this whole campaign swap thing becoming a huge whining topic a month or 2 after launch.

People will whine about being "trapped" in their home campaign with "no way out". Guesting is not going to satisfy them, because what's the benefit of playing on the winning side if you can't get the alliance buffsimage

Or they switched guilds in mid-campaign (because the old guild were a bunch of losers), and now the new guild all play on a campaign that's different to that player's home campaign...

Oh, the drama and the tears... image
