What race/faction will you be in ESO? And do you like the idea

funconfuncon Member UncommonPosts: 279

of any race can be any faction? I dont like this idea.  Well, Ive never played an ES game so I dont know which races dislike/like each other etc. But I rather have races only playable in their own factions. What do you all think?

Edit: Forgot to add. I might go with cat people or high elves,or Argonians. Im not sure on the race I would like to play, but I am sure I want to play as Dominion. I think their starting area is beautiful.

Probably Redguard or Kajit. Pobably both, since I play a lot of alts. I will go with whatever alliance my guild from GW2 goes for. I don't care about that, since I will level alts through the other alliances, probably, if I stay with the game long enough.

I'll play a dunmer cause dark elves are cool. Couldn't care one way or the other if any race can be any faction.

Not sure if I'm going to play yet.Every time I hear news about the game....it seems the devs have made another decision I don't agree with.

Crafting trait nerfs being the latest.

Not sure Im going to pick up this title but if I do I am thinking an orc in medium armor for the sprint bonus stacking w/provisioning perks. Thinking sorcerer twohanded wep for douible crits but meh itll probly get nerfed.

I've no preferences at all regarding race/faction.  As for any race being in any faction, renegades and rebels are a common theme in any genre, so I couldn't care less about that aspect of the game.

Planning a Nord in the uhh... fraction with the Bretons in it.

The option to choose the faction independent of the race was one of the reasons that make me finally open the wallet & preorder. Besides that such kind of freedom is always healthy for a game it makes sense lore wise. From what I gathered is was already a united empire that has been fallen and now the factions fight for dominance to rule the new one. It makes sense to have families originating from one part of Tamriel living in another under a united empire; maybe even already for generations & adapting to the political climate of the region they are living in.

    ^ This.

Although I'll be playing an Orc, in Daggerfall Covenant(which is their faction anyway). I like that my friends and guildmates can play any race and still be in my faction. Additionally, I have altitis, and like Redguards, Nords, Khajit and Dunmer(Dark Elves) - which means I can play my alts on my faction too. /bliss

    Playing: Secret World: Legends

Waiting for: Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Can't decide between Orsimer and Redguard. Probably Redguard at release.. was also my first character in beta. Class will be Templar! :)

That would require something to betray to begin with ;)

As said, racial diversity beyond borderlines make sense considering the empire was already united.

EDIT: And while we are at betraying stuff: Look left to the dunmer(!) brother in arms and ask yourself: Who betrayed what :P

My launch character will be an Argonian templar, resto staff and bow. Planning on playing on the Ebon heart pact at the moment.

You are  betraying your nord brothers and will take up arms against them. Traitor :)

    Just roll a breton.

I wanted to play a dark elf but since they went back on their initial plans for fixed factions and so destroyed any chance the game will have faction pride instead of the usual red against blue mentality from recent mmorpgs,no TESO for me.

Aw, I was to slow with the edit addition.

Hmm.. maybe as 2nd Char. A true Skyrim Breton :)

But besides that: I don't really PvP, so the only Nord (and actually everything else) that will get its behind kicked will be in selfdefense.

Yeah!  Remember how Skyrim wouldn't let Imperial characters side with the Stormcloaks, or let Nord characters side with the Empire?  It should be just like that!

How about how Skyrim lets me have a house, kill most npcs, steal, explore other faction areas at any level, swim and lot of other things available in elder scrolls games and not available in teso ?
TESO is a mmo and made a lot of compromises so talking about races/factions in Skyrim is pointless when TESO has very few things in common with it.
Matt Firor spoke and spoke about rvr, faction pride etc then changed all in preorders. At least if they wanted to allow any race play any faction they should have said it from the start and not add it in game as a last minute change only to get more people to preorder. Without a decent rvr the game does not offer much compared to classic ESO games and they know it (like aoc/warhammer developers are nerfing xp before launch to hide the lack of content)

You could kill most irrelevant NPCs in Skyrim, ones that were actually relevant to quests usually couldn't be killed.  The only difference in ESO is that there are fewer irrelevant NPCs.  Stealing, in some form, will be coming with the post launch justice system.  You can swim, you'll just get eaten by slaughterfish if you go too far.

As for what they spoke about, why do you care?  Why would anyone judge a game based on blather, rather than on actually playing the game?  Why would you judge a feature based on anything other then whether or not it makes sense within the context of the game?  It seems more rational, given the reality of the game as it actually exists, to complain about the race lock existing at all than to complain about pre-orders being exempted from it.  It has no narrative justification.

As for being worried, I seriously doubt it.  The physical  PC collector's edition is already sold out everywhere, and physical pre-orders alone (with most people who are buying going digital) are past 150,000.

Warhammer and AOC also sold a lot of boxes,Swtor even more and went f2p in a year.
You can swim but you get eaten - same way you can explore in swtor but you die of exhaustion. I guess you are the perfect consumer for this type of games.

Was thinking about High Elf sorcerer but will probably go with Breton sorcerer and Daggerfall instead.
  • CazNeergCazNeerg Member Posts: 2,198
I'm going to have one Imperial in each faction, two dark elves (one Ebonheart, one Aldmeri) and an Argonian in Daggerfall.

The fact that this is only an option if you preorder the game or buy a CE is what made me not buy the game. People who buy the game after launch will be race/faction locked even when they will be paying the same subscription price than pre-launch buyers. When they fix that ill buy the game.

This is the main area Zenimax dropped the ball IMO ( well they didn't drop it, they flung it into my face). I"ve always played an imperial in TES games, yet I don't typically dish out money for extras in these games (pre-order bonuses and CE's). They let me down in this regard.

Nothing wrong with play any faction with any race, should have been this way without the pre-order.

Probably playing Imperial myself, still in the air about what class.
