Why don't any new MMOs have pointy hats?!

- Fun mage classes

- Pointy wizard hats!

Seriously though for some reason I find myself craving to be a traditional DnD stereotypical spell slinging mage class in a fantasy setting and every new game seems to go for the creative angle instead while the games that did cover this type of motif are all but good and fresh.

Does anybody know an MMO where this might be the case? I played Elder Scrolls Online but as of yet have not found one pointy hat (I don't even think I've seen one in any of the games either, most certainly not in Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim) and Wildstar is...Wildstar.

I tried FFXIV but they apparently think a pointy wizard hat is the equivalent of a dunce cap which quite frankly is bioth mildly amusing and mildly insulting.

Please, somebody save me!

Also, what's MMO so far has held your favorite mage type class? What was it?

WoW, GW1, GW2, Dragon Age and Skyrim have the magician classes i enjoy the most. GW2 Magicians (elementalist, mesmer, necromancer) need a lot more skills and weapons to be more enjoyable and be my favorite ones. Other than that, every other mmo i play is missing a good magician class. By magician i am talking in general (mages, wizards, necromancers, warlocks, priests, blood mages, etc)

I love magician / spellcaster classes in games but it sucks when so many companies make the same mistake of assuming every mage needs to have the same limitations and squishiness in every game.

I agree, there needs to be more pointy hats. WoW has some.

I really liked the Enchanter in the original EQ and EQOA (EQ2 can go suck zombie ass). Such a fun class to play with the cool floating sword and shield, mind control and disguising yourself as other races. Probably my favorite class in any game period.
