Simple question. Im wondering if i should buy gw or not so I would very much like to get peoples thoughts around the game. How is the community, the partybuild, questing, economy and so on.
Comments
Community is non-existant basically O.o
Best go to an US server if you want to talk to someone. About half of ppl on the Europe server are like "fr?", "fr?"
Or the Germans just talk german language, they don't even ask.
Questing is ok if you're not a monk cause it can get really boring as a monk O.o They're not that good in groups anymore since each class has it's own healing abilities. Like as a Mesmer/Necromancer I got lots of healing skills. I'm lvl 9 and I can heal myself 60 hp while it also drains the enemies energy.
Monks are incredibly valuable to groups past the early missions - and vital in the last 4 missions when the NPC's are next to useless.
As for the language issue, I don't find it a problem, there are more than enough UK or english speakers to be able to group on the euro servers, not that much spoken communication is necessary anyway with the nifty map sketching tools. As has been said though, you can just move to the US servers if you do find it a problem.

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...
Guild Wars is awesome, you should definitely check it out. Besides the no monthly fee, so many aspects of the game are great.
The questing in this game is really cool, it isnt just run all the way to one side of the world then run back. You don't usually have to travel too far, and you can get a group of people real quick, or just grab the NPCs, they work just fine for most quests. There is no such thing as level grinding in this game, which is awesome, cause level grinding is not fun at all. This game is all about fun. In most games, when you cap out at the max level there isn't really much else to do, but in this game, once you get to 20, which doesn't take months and months to do, then you get to have even more fun, by doing 4v4, or 6v6, or 8v8, or you can join a guild or start one and do GvG. GvG is awesome. It takes real strategy to decide who the victor will be, not just a bunch of uber level 60s or whatever the caps are in the other games. It is crucial to have the right skill set for that match, the right set up with characters, and the right strategy, otherwise you will have a hard time winning.
Anyways, you'll have to try it out for yourself.
For all the people who ever said there was no community, they must be on drugs, cause any time of day when I log on there are always tons of people.
And my word to the people who think this game is lame, that is fine, you can have your own opinion. It just makes it better for the rest of us, cause we won't have to hear you whining in the game.
Yeah, I guess, but still their healing skills should be more powerful. I think monks are more useful with protection prayers.
Let me tell you something about healing monks...A healing monk with his healing prayers atribute lvl12 (without runes), using Healing Hands and Healing Seed = Subliminal. Healing Seed is perfect for those KOTH missions, or if someone is getting really stomped. For instance, in HoH, my W/Mo get hit for the MAX dmg I have seen so far for "9" dmg. Now a lvl 20 Mo that casts HH on me with his atts @ 12+, I'll get healed for 48 health each time i am struck by an attack. Healing seed is great for a bunch of warriors with the ghost, or even the priest since it has an AoE Healing effect. Just some info to help people better understand how useful a healing monk is.

If you got lemons... Eat them, or squirt them in your eyes.
Community, practicly none, I haven't teamed with anyone yet, most people just kinda set there and dance naked, so make sure you have some friends play the game with you
quests are fun for the most part, the setup of the quests reminds me of a single player game, its not just collecting, or kill counting, there are "defend the area" quests and escourt missions
economy, so far what I see the most of is "WTB dye all colors" and " Anyone selling Green dye?"
but there seems to be a good amount of trade that takes place in the cities
its a fun game and with no mouthly fee you haven't lost too much if you don't like it, well except $50
Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit
