Found exploring
During one of the weekend betas I was running around through the hills off of the beaten path when I found a Secret Stash. Not sure if its a fixed spawn or random, or if its just for explorers or everyone, but opening it up gave me a ridiculously awesome blue shield that at the time was twice as powerful as the one I had gotten from questing.
So for those wondering if there is any point to exploring in this game besides the exploration path related stuff, I say, yes there is! Now obviously how common such finds will be, and what kind of other surprises await I am not certain of. But I for one will be scouring every nook and cranny of the world looking for goodies.

It wasn't related to the explorer path, anybody can find them around the world.
Most I found pop up a random buff station, rarely it would pop a loot chest and once it even popped a mini dungeon with a hold out event and a vendor.
Edit: Also you don't have to be the one that finds it first, whatever it pops will hang around for a few minutes and anybody that comes along can use it.
There's multiple ones throughout the world. I think the Secret Stashes are static locations that can only be found once per character. There's one in Illium under the staircase leading from the air craft location to the military drilling fields (where the PvP vendors are).
But if you're to find those little glowing cracks in the world (name escapes me), those are random and they are most the time extra buffs/boosts to your character. Once revealed, anyone can use them until they despawn (within a few minutes)....but I've found some that aren't just buffs, but instead treasures like the Secret Stashes and those aren't available to everyone.
