So i was reading another thread about open pvp and there are allways tons of people who bash it and say how much it sucks because its just a gank fest and what not.
and i can agree with some of that, personally i love open pvp but sure it can get old pretty quick getting ganked over and over while trying to do a quest or somthing. especially if the people are higher level than you.
But im wondering, do you guys think that alot of this is also because of the " solo " mind set of players these days? now hear me out.
Back in the days when playing MMOs i was allways with friends be it questing or grinding or what ever, and when pvp happened it was on. i normally had a friend or 2 to back me up so being ganked wasnt so bad. but in todays games everybody is so much into the whole solo thing, solo questing solo grinding, not having to depend on others, that when they get into a pvp game it only takes 2 people to ruin their fun. but arnt MMOs really about playing with others?
most trolls in these games dont have many friends their gank squads normally dont go past 2 or 3 people. if players would just help each other out and band together those gank squads would be doomed.
I have personally seen it in Asherons Call. it had one server for open pvp and players who where against ganking and what not made huge clans to battle the pkers, the server policed itself and it worked out great.
now i dont want this to be a open pvp is better than you or open pvp sucks thread just a thought about the solo mindset of todays gamers and how that just doesnt work in open pvp. maybe people would have more fun if they had a friend or two to play with.
what say you?

A few people like to ruin the experience for all.
People learned long ago, don't feed the troll. That holds true in PvP griefer games too. One of the first things an alliance will tell you if they are being camped in EVE. Don't undock, don't feed them kills. It just encourages them.
In a nutshell, don't play the game. Don't do stuff.
EVE right now, Goons own most of Null. Why isn't it a hotbed of FFA PvP? Why aren't all these FFA PvP people rolling in to EVE Online in numbers, to contest the Mighty Goons? They know the way it works. They know they will lose, they know they will lose over and over and over.
If you want to PvP all the time and do nothing else? FFA is the way to go. There isn't much demand for that sort of thing.
People had the same response when Trammel was added to Ultima Online as they have now. Most of the people went and played on Trammel to avoid the open world PvP, but continued to play in groups. The difference now is that there is more solo game play, but I don't think that's a factor in the PvP choices that players are making.
There are just people who want PvP to be a choice, and people who want PvP to be always on.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
seem it a million times . 1 level 50 rogue kill you and your 4 man party , highest level in your party being level 4. Over and over again until its time to log. Then rogue stands over your body, humping it and lol at you. No thanks.
By the way I love pvp, I just want mine in a controlled zoned.
I say i like to solo, and i have more fun that way. And i think i know what is fun to me better than you.
So no thanks, no open pvp games for me.
Im curious to what game this happen to you in if u dont mind me asking?
PS: I played most all MMO's and they are all so boring to me as compared to a game with open world pvp (playing Darkfall Unholy Wars right now).

nah .. there is no reward in being ganked.
And you can simply have good reward/risk ratio by putting in a difficulty slider for pve, like in D3. Being ganked is boring. Ganking others ... well, i don't like it. So no open pvp for me.
and I'm the complete opposite. There should be no difficulty slider, as everything should always be challenging. The same content done with changing difficulty sliders sickens me. Thank god there are different MMO's that cater to different folks.
PS: The reward for being ganked is the elation you get when you succeed. With the low low come the high highs. That to me is much better than a flat line experience.
Some of the best times I've had in games was with open world pvp, but it was consensual.
Ganker's and Griefer's are their own worst enemy's

They don't want to understand you. They want to try whatever tricks they have to get you to play their game. It ends up proving your side to be correct.

Since it is different what "fun challenge" means ... if a game is "challenging" to you, it is probably too easy for some, and too difficulty for others.
A difficulty slide is the only solution (and used to great success in D3, i might add) to have one game with good challenge for a broad population of players.
And you logic is flawed. If there is a difficulty slide, you can make the game always challenging for you. Why would you care what challenge other players are facing?
That is the funny thing. Everyone knows that it is almost impossible to convince anyone on the internet. It is totally silly to try to convert others to your thinking.
Forum posting is about having fun (to me), not about convincing others because that is seldom going to happen.
There's an entire thread about open PvP, which you acknowledged, so you should continue discussion in there with this as a reply instead of splitting the discussion off into multiple places.
