Is there a hunter class in ESO?

funconfuncon Member UncommonPosts: 279

From what I am reading on http://tamrielfoundry.com/. There are 4 classes, and none of them look to be hunters. I see that there are two different skills, weapon skills and class skills. I dont understand how this is going to work. There are only 5 abilities you can use at a given time. I dont understand, which skills should I use. The weapon abilities or the class skills?

Ive never played an ES game so forgive my noobness.

I would say the Nightblade is probably the best at hunting since they are agile and are able to move in silence, allowing them to sneak up and f*ck u up! :D

If your looking for a pet then the sorc can provide that...add in a bow and there you go.

Sure you can. Do a random pick of any class, equip a bow and medium armor and BAAAAM, you're a hunter.

Don't want to bow all the time? No problem, pick some daggers along the way and swap between weapons on the run.

Wanna be a hunter with a pet? No problem, pick a sorc and be able to summon pets too.

Or prefer a stealth aproach? NP, take Nightblade class...

    etc

    etc

Really it depends on what type of hunter you want to be.  If you want to be a hunter with a pet, then you'll probably go sorcerer.  You can use you're bow and your sorcery allows you to summon pets.  If you want to be a hunter and stalk your prey, then you'll probably want to be a nightshade.  If you want to be a hunter that reveres life and want to help save others, then you can be a templar.

The best way to explain classes is that they are the foundation of your character to start with.  Every class can use ANY weapon, armor, join any guild, or whatever you want.

First of all, any class can use any weapon and any skill from said weapon as long as you have skilled it.

Second of all, all the classes have cc's and ranged abilities (or at least some more than others).

Are you asking about pets?  I believe the sorcerer has pets.  Otherwise I haven't seen any other pets.  If your asking about a literal hunter class that uses pets and traps and a ranged physical dps weapon, then no not directly.  You can build something close I bet, maybe not with all the components, though.

I will agree that with the above poster that commented on a nightblade with a bow would be the closest to a ranger type character.  No pets, though.

Ok I get it. But do all races/classes have the same weapon skills? And there arnt that many weapon skills.

Are weapon skills and class skills both equal in damage output?

  • No, there's no hunter type class and you can't really make one. Closest would be a Nightblade proficient with bows, but Nightblades are more like magical rogues than hunter/rangers.

The OP didn't mention pets, he asked about skills and how to pick just 5.

OP, I have only played the game for a short time but some skills use stamina some magica.   Think it's weapons skills use stamina and class skills use magica but I could be wrong about that.  I used the skills that best fit my play style for that character. Then at level 15 you can swap weapons and that will swap the skills you have available.

Everyone is correct though, anything can be made to be a hunter of sorts.   It's up to you.

I guess a better thing to answer your question would be for you to tell us: "What in your mind makes a Hunter class?"  Like, what type of skills, what type of weapons?

I mean, there have been many ideas of hunters in many RPGs.   I think the only thing they have in common is that they usually use bows.  Everyone in ESO can use a bow, so it becomes a matter of what else you want them to be able to do.

You don't have to use a single Nightblade skill if you don't want to, you know that?  There are a lot of other skills. You could mix some Bow skills with lets say Fighters Guild skills like "Expert Hunter" or "Trap Beast",.....

There is life outside the box too...

Classchoice is just the first of your buildingblocks..

The skillsystem allows you to build almost anything you want...

And if some of the parts required to build your perfect dreamtoon, chances are high that the right tree that will allow for this will be added over time.... like a nature magic tree..

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Depends on what type of hunter you mean, if you mean EQ themed there's no nature magic per se.

Closest would probably be making a sorcerer and use a bow.

You can get a dinosaur pet, some lightning magic and some bow attacks.  Close enough I guess.

Everyone gets the same weapon skills. Only the 18 class skills are unique (and 12 passives).

No game is ever balanced, this game is no exception.  In the last build Dragonknight abilities were overpowered. There will always be one setup that is better than others.

    Traditional elder scroll class system?

Guess that is not what the OP meant, but for me a Hunter can also be a tamer type of class, and I don't mean the magical type. More like a Hunter in Wow, or, even better, in UO. And I guess the answer to that is - no, there are no tamers :(

    OP

unfortunately there is no hunter class.

You pick a base class and then use any weapon with that base class.

to make a hunter/archer I picked a Nightblade and got the best bow I could find.

with each class you get certain abilities......with a bow you get certain abilities

you pick the abilities you want and put them on your task bar

the more you use these abilities the more effective they become

continued use of these abilities opens up new abilities for the class or weapon
