GTX and Free-to-play

Free-to-play is a hot topic these last few years.  I thought this worth noting.  I'm updating my GTX driver right now, and watching the game adds flip through there rotation.  I realize all the games are free-to-play: Heroes of Neworth (sp?), Path to Exile, Warface, and Daylight (bundled for free with a GTX purchase).  I usually see p2p games advertised here.  Thoughts?  Is it just that they are getting $$ to advertise these games, or is there another angle?  Maybe the idea is pay for your gpu, not good gaming.

I don't know of any for-profit company that advertises for other for-profit companies out of the goodness of their hearts.  The "free" to play games are becoming more popular and people are spending more money on these games than ever.  Games that used to be advertised (like Crysis) are no longer attracting a large crowd beyond the dedicated fans.  I think it is a silly place to advertise, but it makes sense from a business perspective.

Both AMD and Nvidia work with game companies.  AMD or Nvidia may help the company optimize their code to perform better, while the company may allow them to include free copies of a game with video cards.  Advertising as part of the driver update process typically shows off such games that AMD or Nvidia had a hand in.
