Was my second Beta Weekend - played <2 hours. Hate being forced to start with the sword. Starter Island is boring but i want to complete it first so i have fucking done it. Envirinmental Lighting was better situational but pretty often it is depressing instead of being impressing - who the hell did that lighting? Some Animations were worked on. UI Bug making UI unaccessible periodically. Foreign Language Translation still incomplete. Etc.
Game still does not catch me...
How were you forced to start with a sword...you get to select your weapon from the racks.
Not any more.
Thats been removed. You are now forced to start with a sword as the weapon rack no longer features in the game at all.
Did not play the beta this weekend what is the reasoning behind that?
I don't mind only having a sword as a choice at the start, you find other weapons pretty fast, and I quiet liked how it dropped you in the island after the starter zone, it felt more up to you where you went.
How ever I was concerned that weapons will not hit if you push up against a mob, that to me is a pretty bad issue that needs resolving, can't find any mention of it anywhere, maybe I'm blind and I missed a post about it, but combat issues like that really need resolving.

Interesting I noticed that combat issue too. Sometimes when i clicked my character wouldn't swing the weapon, like it didn't register. I don't remember that happening at all the last beta weekend I played. Maybe something messed up by collision detection or other updates?

"streamlining"
hum....
People complained that the racks showed different weapons from what they received and were so vocal, they had to change it. That's why I am always against player feedback in Open Beta or Stress Test:
for every 1 good idea or observation, there are 9 people who ask for mini map or 20 hotbar or are simply too dumb
W/O breaking the PTS licence agreement I will say this,
The weekend beta is build 1.21.
The PTS server build is 1.81
it is well over 3 builds past what EVERYONE IS PLAYING NOW.
Please shut the fuck up already, pre-order... wait a month or move on.
These posts make me rage the rage of 1000 tiny school girls.
dont stress, your PTS license is safe seeing as you never had one in the first place...
V1 will be the launch client the game is still running on 0.xx
and if you wanna get super technical, this weekends build exactly as per my game files databuild stamp is 0.win.0.live.892348
so yeah, your argument is pretty invalid.
So this weekends beta build is, in fact, pretty much how the game will run when it launches.
Thought so.
Why so many fanboys need to lie about this? Why not address the issues instead of using lies and mis-information to hide them?
To be super super technical, that "Live stamp", doesn't mean final build, or its the build you will be playing on release. The most likely reason for that live stamp, is that all of the content that will be in the game when it goes live, is already in the game. Now its just ironing out bugs, and polishing. So they just changed the name of live. Just fyi.

For starter weapons people cared that much.....sorry but who ever complained is a moron.
There is no magic bullet. And yes I do understand software testing. I also understand marketing, business and finance.
A release window was created - ultimately tied to financial reasons but it will also come down to e.g. expected release date of WoD etc.
A schedule will have been demanded from the devs to show that the game would be ready. Iteration 101 finally showed that it would all be wonderful by the 4th. There will have been many, many totally over the top optimistic assumptions - and they probably forgot about early access to boot.
There was however a schedule. A miraculous path which if only they could stick to it would have the game ready by the 4th.
And then the assumptions started to sour. And now iteration 1 of the schedule may be looking optimistic as well.
A company needs a very strong culture to resist this approach. Blizzard's bust-up with Activision a few years back is an example.
Someone at some level in Zenimax decided that the impossible could be achieved - and now they have to live with the result.

Dumb people will always ruin the game for the rest, like the ones who want to nerf Gutripper because they are too dumb to stand on higher ground.

Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.

So anyone who makes their feelings known, that just doesn't happen to be in line with your thoughts is automatically labelled a "moron"?
You heard it here folks....this IS the type of player that will make up a large proportion of the ESO player base.
Quick, where do I sign up for this mature reasonable community?
Do not bring your anger that I am making you look foolish in other threads here. They removed choice because people complained about the appearance of a starter weapon.
The changes in starter weapons is hopefully not an omen of what is to come, MMOs have already been destroyed by following what players say should be done. Vocal minorities are not right just because they make a lot of noise.
I think the launch may be a bit rough and I think they will sort it by April.
I would like to see them push back the release by a month. Three would be best, but it would upset to many people. They will never have as many people working on the game as they do right now. They sold a ton of pre-boxes, so it would seem in their best interest to delay. Then when the game hits its first 30 days its working fairly well. You don't want the game full of bugs when people have to decide if they want to sub or not.
My biggest fear is that the Devs are doing a money grab, because they think the game is 6+ or more from being finished, but were forced by the suits to launch now. I can see the meeting there the Devs were told "4/4/14 has a good ring to it. Release it on that day" They added in a cash shop because subs are going to crash. And let everyone see what the Imp ed. is like to further boost sales. I think its hard to keep subs high when the game is a work in progress.
Although since I bought the game, I hope it all works out for the best.
bleh .. level 22 , 148 quest done, 4 not finished. 3 abandoned due locked content. 1 abandoned due to bug (miners lament- cave-in-bell not working. , DC side)
There were some bugged quest at first beta's but every new weekend more and more were fixed. last weekend i had above result .
there are some phasing issue's (mostly detection and loading not always working as quickly as it should) that made some quest not always work right. most would then jsut shout BUGGGG and never go back, usualy after comming back later it would work just fine.
its one of the most stable , lag free beta's i ever bin in. i see no issue at all comming launch except when encountering slow respawn/phasing times when everyone tries to do the same quest.

I've fought gutripper with each class and different builds. I never used the pathing exploit to beat him. The fight can be fairly easy to very frustrating depending on class/build/lvl. The lower levels should teach players about the game and be over quickly. There should a be a gradual increase in difficulty. Fighting Gutripper is at best boring because of all his hp. If the boss was balanced you wouldn't have so many people abusing its pathing to beat it.
Its just happen so much its become the norm. To expect a MMO to be well polished HAHA we laugh at that. So yeah playing a game that has some bugs does not have all the content in...sounds good and well. BUT You are paying $60 for it.
Just look even reg games are popping out unfinished its like "we dont even have to finish the game people will PAY US anyway" and guess what we do. Dont even say anything I have some that are still to this day not even close to being done.
Like OP said I had more bugs/crashes then I have ever had playing ESO. Yet fixing one thing can lead to tons of other bugs popping up. Its just the are the starting quests. Something that should have been all done with by now.
Whats going to be sad is what you hear people saying as they get higher up.
I have been a big supporter of this game and have had faith they are making positive progress on the game in previous beta tests. I have to say that my faith is a bit shaken after this beta. Previously, we were on an older build so I assumed the newer build addressed many of the issues I was seeing. After this last beta it seems clear there is not just simple quest bugs but a more fundamental problem with the mega-server phasing mechanic that is preventing quests from spawning NPCs and quest objects. There are also other persistent niggling issues like the continuous dismounting for no reason and weird lag spikes out of the blue that freeze the screen for 5 seconds or UI issues that trap you in dialog or prevent you from doing certain things. Nothing really game breaking per se but there is enough of this to be a huge concern.
It's become a common site to reach a quest objective and find a dozen people standing there waiting in vain for something to spawn or reset. Sometimes restarting the client one or more times or coming back later resolves the issue but on numerous occasions that was not the case (and shouldn't be required). I still do have confidence in the overall game itself and feel these issues will get resolved but I'm starting to come to the conclusion that this launch is going to have serious problems if they don't pull a miracle patch out of their ass to address this phasing issue among others. I will play the game regardless but I fear the long term health of the game could be in jeopardy if it releases in a state anything close to what we saw this weekend.
All that being said I wouldn't say the majority of quests are like this and what isn't bugged is quite fun. I still had a lot of fun playing even if I had to put off completion of various quests and hamper my ability to level (some of the bugged quests are story line quests that give the lion share of XP in the game atm). One of the big pluses of the game and one of the reasons I have been able to overlook some of the flaws is that there is a TON of content in the game and lots of things to do. Even with quests blocked I could stay quite busy with crafting, harvesting, dungeons, exploring and pvp.

the point i'm making is that it's basically the latest PTS build as of maybe a few days before the weekend stress test and in saying that it's basically the "launch client" because the launch client will most likely be 1.0 and the weekend client we used is almost at 1.0 so there wont be many significant changed between now and 12 days, but maybe they'll get their shit together.

honestly they need to push back about 6 months, the sad truth is, if there is bugs in the 5 - 15 zones, then there is no way this game should be launching, starter zones should be super polished by now and bug free.
I lost a little faith this past weekend. I like the game, but the amount of bugs encountered!
I was able to work arounf them, but thats becasue I relogged a hell of a lot. The Esc key bug also was there, just press ' and then it would work. Sure, not hard to get the game to work. but...

This doesn't sound right at all. Why would you beta test an old client right before release? They must know it's full of bugs and such. It seems they would want the best word of mouth possible this close to launch especially since there is no NDA. Bad word of mouth can massacre a game launch. It doesn't make sense to me.
Public tests are to get player's feedback on certain mechanics, game elements and so on. Finding bugs is only an addition to that. It's I guess universal to development of all kind of software:
- develop yourself
- test yourself
- when certain release is ready present it to the public and get feedback
- work on several releases at once if you can afford it
i had a mate who was going to pre-order, but after the weekends beta, he said he will be waiting for at least a month after release before taking another look. really i dont blame him. it was his first look at the game and he got increasingly frustrated with the bugged quests and having to logout/login for every quest.
For me personally i have pre-ordered but i think that the game is at least 3 months away from being done. if it stays the same they will have a very rough launch, like the WoW launch, and people will not subscribe because the game is broken. Two weeks is not enough time for them to fix all the issues, and the fanbois that think there is a better build out there are dreaming. We only have what is put in front of us at beta. thats what we go on. there is no information that the apparent PTS build is better. why would they want us to test an old build that they no is buggy? it makes no sense, they would as per every other beta, find the bugs and report them, with what is the current working model. in this case its not ready for release yet.
