I sense danger regarding character names

I am still one of those MMO fans who defends Good Manners.
I sense danger before I pre-order regarding ESO.... specifically, the character names, especially with such freedom open to players.
Did anyone notice a naming policy in beta? Or even more importantly, a quick way to report vulgar or perverted names?

Good manners among the vast majority of MMO gamers. Oh, you are serious there.
I love MMOs but find my fellow MMO gamers generally at the lower end of the scale when it comes to good manners and people I would care to associate with in real life.
I haven't seen a naming policy in any MMO I've played in.
That being said I'm looking forward saving Tug McGroin, Hugh Janus, and Max Power.
And with good reason, an mmo is much more then just a game, its a social experience, and i certainly hope that names like frack69 are not on my shard

You actually notice other characters names? I cant remember a single players name, most of them are just big blob of gray mass, much like npc's.
This topic reminds the time before swtor was launched are basement dweller's were concerned that the name of a jedi would be tainted and bioware should make people take test whether or not the player is worthy of playing one..

i didn't notice anyone else's character name really in beta. then again i wasn't really trying either.

Oh for the goddess' sake...if what I name my toon has any relevancy to your existence your wife must be one of the four women who pretend to be the all powerful "Million Mom's" who protest all things homo in real life. Seriously take one of my vicadin and get a clue. Now be a douche in-game and I will be annoyed with you other than that its a freaking game folks, LOL. I swear at 49 years old every time I think I have seen most things stupid every now and again one of you slips through! Oh and by the way with an "M" rating I am fairly confident you are going to see some juicy names. If that concerns you as to how your children will be scarred for life then do us both a huge favor keep the little bastards out of my "mature" game and while you're at it go play RIFT and stop polluting my oxygen supply!

Oh, I intend to do it as well. If there's any way to report bad names, I'll make it a bit of a mini-game to see if I can get it changed.

lol still trying to figure out what name it was... did it make any sense or were just random words?
Their are social standards in everything you do in life. It's different in a bar or mall or your home. A game is no different. The mistake some people make is that they think all people are decent and that they would have no reason to use a name far a character that is 2 sex acts thrown together. But we have lots of 49 year old immature adults out there that somehow feel Empowered by doing it. So if I report it...get over it...after all it's just a game. Just my thoughts, like it or not.
I saw a couple pretty nasty names in the betas.
If I ran by them I thought to myself 'jackass'.
If they were in chat I put them on ignore.
Small minds who think they are being witty. Or kids. Or small minded kids who think they are witty.
Not going to ruin my game.
Players with nasty names are a nice giveaway to never group/guild/dungeon with ... that's how I handle it anyways.
^^ . Sadly, looks like social standards are going wayward. That guy is an example. Anyways, I know the game is "M" rated, but if its just a game and its just for fun to be silly, whats the point of playing a mideval role playing game? It's not like your going to make it anymore cool by making a stupid name. Its a nerdy genre and playing it makes you a nerd. So stop trying to be cool in a "game" when you're not.
it's not great. Neither is listening to people talk abotu WoW or the superbowl. But it's a social experience, to different people that means different things. Some people play in character, some people just play.
If someone's name or what they say is enough to completely ruin someone's gameplay experience, that person is probabkly too sensitive to partake in an open social environment such as an online MMO. There is nothing wrong with that, but frankly, people with peanut allergies should avoid the peanut factory grand tour as their choice of entertainment.
Otherwise, /ignore or leave the channel and move on. If you're not able to do that, no reasonable amount of rules and enforcement will save you from SOMEONE in a world of millions having a stupid name or saying stupid stuff. The world is full of stupid people who do stupid shit, you can't kill them all.

Quite so. Makes it difficult when you get into a guild with mixed 'wits' who think their anti-social names are all the rage.
I tend to avoid guilds. Might have trouble this time around because of the Stores/no AH (which I don't want). Trade channel would be nice though.
There will be live mods in game and the ability to report people (ref the Reddit AMA).
If I see any name that particularly irritates me I'll report it. That very seldom happens though, I'm fairly tolerant. Usually I just roll my eyes and carry on going.
However, if someone with an obnoxious name is also actively trying to be a jackass in game, I'll report them faster than you can say: "Whut ?"

I'd love a game where GMs would actually ban and ip block people with retarded or even non-lore appropriate names or ridiculous OOC chat even if it was only on one specific RP server . I'd even be willing to pay extra for a server like that.
I just found it off how people had full sentences as names...
