Yeah, nothing at all like those nice quite cat and mouse or roadrunner cartoons where they were constantly trying to kill each other or watching a stalker/rapist skunk go after cats...
You have officially entered the "GET OF MY LAWN" days of your life.
Still those cartoons are much better than the PC cartoons of today - Pepe le Pew stalker lol
Ren and Stimpy, South Park, Family Guy are PC?
Or do you mean Saturday morning cartoons? Because last I checked the latest Batman series is dark as hell and the new Xmen while no where near as good as the early 90s version still shows some mad killing. Hell even the more "kiddie" shows are twisted as hell and look like they are made by someone trippin balls.
I miss the days when people with this type of mentality did not get invited to beta tests.
Honestly, thanks to individuals like yourself the genre has been set back ten years, three steps backwards for every half step forward.
A large portion of that result is directly due to the way testing has become more "open" instead of being restricted to people who actually care about giving there all to ensure a product is the absolute highest quality possible come launch day.
like I said before you cant compare the two both are AAA but wild star something is missing.
if they were just not so stuped and arrogant to think they can as k a full price and a full sub.
I want to see how many players will they have after one year.
ESO will keep you busy for 450 hours just main quests.
AND ITS FUN
Fun is in the eye of the beholder.
I tried wildstar and can't get enough.
Tried ESO and uninstalled after a day, kept reinstalling trying to convince myself to try it again every beta weekend, and I can't force myself to log into that shallow pointlessly dull game.
Wildstar is far far more fun... for me.
Also OP, respectfully if this game is too 'exciting' and the music too 'hart pounding' for you then that's one thing, but to say repeatedly it's obnoxious... It makes no sense... How can you have 'hart' pounding action and be annoyed at the same time? It's literally like you tried to be upset about it... which you are allowed to do sure, but don't come here asking us why when you desire to be in such a state to begin with.
Completely agree with the OP. I have been trying to find the word for it, but 'obnoxious' is perfect. The matrix-like scanning crap, the busy colors, disjointed user interface, and then the arrow thing which pisses me the fuck off. The environment is so busy, confusing and unintuitive that you actually HAVE TO use the arrows a lot of times. Worse, they made the arrow a 3 second blink, so you in some situations you're just re-enabling the arrow over and over just to find a location that is 100 steps away.
The cheesy "DOUBLE KILL" stuff seems really out of place and the level up animation is supposed to be ... well, I'm not sure what they were going for.
'Holy shit you leveled up cupcake!' That is the most satirical thing I've ever heard in my life... and the entire game tries to be that level of satire the entire time.
Wildstar is a collection of really good ideas, hidden beneath a truly obnoxious user experience.
It's a satire, the game is a satire, and I think most of you have no idea what the word means :-(
I really wanted to love WildStar. The humor, the trailers, just everything I read about the game. After playing it in several betas, I have to say that I will pass. Don't get me wrong. I think it is going to be a great game for lots of folks. Seems to run smoothly, has a pretty nifty crafting system, gives you some interesting customization choices for your characters. When I bought my plot of land the first time around, I could see the potential of having loads of fun with housing. Really well done in my opinion and kudos to a developer who brings that right to the table.
With that said, I have similar thoughts as the OP. I loved the art work of WoW and didn't mind the more cartoony nature. The world still is quite lovely to me. As I watch my hubby play SWTOR, I think the world is well done too. I don't think that I'm against more cartoony games. Something about the art style of WildStar just turns me off. Although the landscapes are well done, I find them incredibly cluttered and too much for my old eyes. I feel like I'm playing in a very busy Pixar world. I haven't found those awe inspiring views where I just want to gaze over a mountaintop or look at the reflections in the water. When I do stop, I just see a really busy color scheme with sooo much stuff crammed onto the screen. I've tried scrolling out, scrolling in and have yet to find myself comfortable visually in the game if that makes any sense. The sound effects also get rather old and seem more like an arcade game. Busy, busy, busy. For the first time in all my gaming years, I actually got a bit of a headache from playing.
As I mentioned in another thread, ESO may not be the perfect game but I find it much more soothing for my soul. I love the gorgeous vistas, the slower pace of things. I know that I can really become immersed into a lovely world that seems slower paced. I will continue to play WildStar this weekend to see if my opinion changes but it is doubtful. Rarely have I met an MMO where we just didn't click from the very start but WS seems to be that MMO sadly enough.
Again, I don't want to bash WildStar. Frankly, I think it is going to be a really fun game and for many, the art style, the action will be appealing. I want both ESO and WildStar to do well. They are so different and the more choices we have in our gaming, the better. Happy gaming all.
Originally posted by cylon8 the game to me is bland it doesn't feel sci fi or humours it just feels like wow for the modern age. the quests are boring, the combat is meh, the charaters run like ballerinas
You hit the nail on the head. I'm in the Beta and I just can't play it, the weird thing is that I love WoW and I thought I would love Wildstar but its just feels dull. The game is well made, with lots of polish but it plays like an action platform game like "Ratchet and Clank". If I was 17 I would probably be all over it, but platform games just don't do it for me anymore.
like I said before you cant compare the two both are AAA but wild star something is missing.

That's exactly how I felt when I read that whole thing. He had that mindset when he entered- I'm sure.

Too busy,, that describes Wildstar, it has its fun moments, and has a lot of character, i suppose as im getting older the thought of having 15 quests in my log (not an exaggeration) by level 10, each one worth around 5% of a level, was just ... ugh. but im just used to games thesedays not throwing 10 quests at the same time at me. TSW quest system i liked, very minimal, Long and high XP missions are what i prefer, not the go here and kill spiders routine 20 times.
and dont give me BS that because im only lvl 10 i cant judge need to see more etc etc etc. if it doesnt grab me within the first hour or so, it wont whatsoever, First Impressions are key, and having me run around doing in tedium is just like wow. first hour there is boring aswel, hence i didnt play that particually much.
And yes, the combat system does remind me of Tera, you know, the other Targetless combat system game, not really a stretch, some of the combat mechanics are very similar, Telegraphed big attacks from mobs, "Action based " combat, no need to tab target etc etc, and as i said before, That got quite stale very quick, felt like i had carpul tunnel system.
Gimmick Combat system with same old questing system running around doing tedious stuff, tera isnt exactly thriving, you'd of thought WS would of learned. not my cuppa tea, dont want Carpul Tunnel, nor do i want a headache fromt rying to keep track of 15 bloody things simultaniously.
EDIT: some of the replies in here are the obnoxious things, "I like it so your all wong blah blah blah /gouninstall" how very grownup, balls dropped yet?
Oh no's... I feel terrible that a group of people worked so hard to make something failed you That's terrible big guy. Im sure that all of their sacrifices were for nothing. Bet all of the artists and coders are laughing themselves silly right now just thinking about how much misery they have cost you, its just plain wrong. I bet when the game is released and their work is done they will be going home to their families to brag about how much they fucked all of the honest, god fearing, sweet and gentle gamers out there, for shame I say. Its sad, that the developers think that they can get away with making a young person cry these days. I hope that you are able to sleep at night OP, that you don't have nightmares and too much resent that prevent you from working and living in the real world as an honest and productive citizen of your nation.
How terrible and sad this day is for the gaming generation that I grew up with.
With that said, Im still having fun with wildstar during is "BETA" stage. And the few things we have mentioned to them they have done their best to change. Good for them. Good for us. Bad for the sad, tired, Tear soaked little guys who don't understand what a beta is designed for. For me, If I have a problem with the game, ill be on the "GAME'S" forums
Did you guys at least figure out that this game is designed to take tim eto level up?
Just look at everything they give you to do. And even there it does not give you lot's of xp for it to be accomplish.
Some quest ask you to go see some people in town and remind them that there is meeting that day and they want you to go ring a bell beside them to remind them of it. ( not a typical quest here else name me 1 game that you do that ) .
Also yes they give you lot's of quest to take in a area but don't play like other mmorpg with this one don't take them all at once.
If you do end up taking them all, then you should notice that your paths quest are very near the story quest sometimes even at the same place.
Other then scientific path there is also the explorer path that makes it more relaxe to play the game : like explore a cave or go to a top of a mountain to see a house there with a tunnel that leads to a treasure if you can get pass some traps. etc.
They don't want you to accomplish everything inside 10 or 20 or even 60 hours. That's the point of a mmorpg and this one is right on target with this.
At level 14 or 15 when housing is open to you, they want you to do those accomplishment to get your items to place in your house and do stuff like get inside your very own spaceship and fly over your house and if your friend get in his own spaceship at your spaceport ( yes you get a spaceport ) you can challenge him to a duel ) You can even go see your friends house and play with them there. I saw some people building ramps and with there overboard doing some skate there and grinding ramps with there friends.
( Thats the RP part of the game ) It is a very good mmorpg compared to the others we see on the market because it is not a mmofps, or a moba even if there is a moba style pvp battleground in this game ).
And at level 8 you won't have seen anything yet it starts at level 15 when you unlock your professions. You get so much things to do but again don't try to do eveything like WoW or GW2 it will burn you over time, because there is too much thing, take it one step at a time. That's the problem with today's players they want everything now.
It is true OP this game is not for you, i do hope you had fun. Later on if you do play just remember to take it in moderation.
Edit : And if you think EQN will be better i dont think so because with the amount of stuff they will give you to do in that one omg it will be mind blowing and yes some content will be player made, so basically big guilds will have ther eview on how pvp goes etc. and create content you wont like but have no other choice to play it because thats the majority.
I am not saying you spoke of that game just giving example of other future mmorpg here because some mention it in this post at one point.
I miss the days when people with this type of mentality did not get invited to beta tests.

Give your head a shake...
I've pretty much decided that anything that evokes this sort of reaction here is something I ought to probably try.
Well maybe its me, I'm a stressful person with a stressful job......When I come home I like to sit back and play my mmos in peace, some times solo. But Wildstar in my opinion is wayyyy over the top. Everything is a constant rush. Even the music is constantly hart pounding.
Two Fallacies One Paragraph:
Right from the gate, we've established that the problem isn't Wildstar- it's you.I don't know what you do for a living, but unless you're physically out there stopping crimes, putting out fires, or engaging in war overseas, what you do is not that stressful. If you happen to be one of the ones I mentioned, than Wildstar really shouldn't be anywhere on your radar.
Another fallacy is "wayyyy over the top. everything is a constant rush. even the music is constantly heart pounding". I... I almost felt you were giving the game a good review here. Thank God it's like that. I hated WoW's sluggish, no movement rock/paper/scissor combat.
Now I should know better, NCSoft never hide the fact that its constant action. For two years I've been watching clips of Obnoxious action, but it seems that it's hitting me in the face harder than it should.
Based on how you said "Obnoxious action", I am going to assume that you thought that from the very minute you ever laid your eyes on a Wildstar trailer. It's hitting you in the face harder than it should (?) now because (wait for it)... bum bum bummmmm dramatic reverbbbbb- you're playing the game, not watching a trailer.
This is only my second bata and only got two classes to level 8. Sure that not very far. I have the rest of this weekend to evaluate more, but I'm not sure I could take anymore, just to find out if it relaxes down a bit....My guess is no. As for now I could only play an hour at a time at most !.....How can a game be action packed yet boring at the same time?....Well Wildstar does it. Here is why :
The easiest thing to do is to stop applying for "bata keys" then. It's clear- you don't like Wildstar. That's fine. Go back to WoW, or ESO, or whatever other MMO holds your interest, and forget about Wildstar. It will go on without you, and you will go on without it (a lot longer than Wildstar will go on without you, unfortunately).
- Quest are short bullets, everything takes 30 seconds to complete. yet you would run 300 quest by level 8 ( exaggerating ).
"Exaggerating". Pretty much.
- Quest marker arrows. They take you by the hand with everything, but without them your lost. Down hallways around corners, above ground and below. So you cant turn nothing off. Your simply stuck with arrows. This is not 100%, you can click on the map, but the game is designed to use the arrows.
I agree, the Quest Marker Arrows DO take you by hand. This would be bad if two things- 1. That wasn't what is was meant to do, and B. You couldn't avoid using it. It was what it was made to do, and you can avoid using it. If you can't stop yourself from pressing the button- that's not Wildstar's fault. That's your own (and maybe your mama's for raising you to be that way).
- Around level 6 you leave the starter area. It doesn't get much better. Quest hubs are EXTREMELY condensed. A hell of a lot of POW and ZOOM going on. Scanners scanning everything around in an obnoxious fashion.
Apparently your obnoxiousness cancels my obnoxious this on this one, as I have nothing to say.
- Everything is important or at least everything appears that way. Everything is glowing and needing to be investigated. Being a Dominion Warrior Scientist. I'm constantly scanning things on top of everything else that needs to be done. I'm often getting side tracked with this yet it seems that I could never accomplish anything 100% for my path.....Yah, this could become easer with more game experience. But to me its discouraging this early in the game.
How stressful of a job can you have if you can't even apply time management successfully? Again, this is a User problem, not a software issue. It's only "discouraging" because you are looking for another excuse not to like this game- which makes no sense, you clearly have an artillery at your disposal.
- Warrior or a malee class seems much better at least for me. My Spellslinger ranged class was a pain in the butt trying to aim my telegraphs on the ground like shining a flashlight.
I agree- the Spellslinger is tough to play. I didn't start feeling like a badass with mine until Lvl 20.
- I can't believe I'm saying this but Wildstar has too much customization even at level 8. It seems like they are trying to give verity and dept so advanced players don't get lazy. I'm always feeling like I'm making wrong decisions, even at level 8. Sure, this is another thing that will come in time but it still feels obnoxious.
This... no. No no no no no no no no. There is nothing wrong here. I guess by "verity" you mean "variety", and after looking at the lack of customization in some games (chiefly WoW)- there is nothing wrong with that here. If you feel you are making the wrong decision, it's because you aren't confident enough, nor sagacious enough.
- It makes me hate the color red, and extremely colorful things
Turn the telegraphs "Off" in the UI settings. It adds challenges to the games combat. But, honestly, if you're hampering now, you won't be able to handle that. Requires skill.
What did we learn about the OP taken from his own words?
+I'm a stressful person with a stressful job
+This is only my second bata and only got two classes to level 8. Sure that not very far.
+I'm often getting side tracked with this yet it seems that I could never accomplish anything 100% for my path.....Yah, this could become easer with more game experience.
+I'm always feeling like I'm making wrong decisions
... I don't know what kind of stressful job you have, or life you lead, but honestly, based on what you said about yourself, you probably make that job a lot more harder than it needs to be, if this is how you come across even something so mundane as a video game.
You don't like it, that's fine. Don't troll. There have been far better troll posts, and the effort here was lacking- at best. Although, I'll give you points on the original "My life is too stressful to play Wildstar" angle. Haven't seen that one yet...
^ yes yes yes and yes you sir should get the "Troll Basher" award because this post was just 100% truth
So basically it's WoW: MoP style of questing that takes longer and is a tad more difficult + dungeons that are not aoe fests?
For someone who quit WoW for good because of Cataclysm 1-60 quest design this may not be a good enough game to play. I think i could enjoy it a bit longer than WoW if the dungeons in WS really are that great.
I hope they will add some kind of trial period after the launch so i could make up my mind before spending my money for WoW clone #n..
Thanks for sharing your experience in WS, it sure has helped a lot.

When I first saw it I dismissed it as a WOW clone but the more I play it the more I get into it. It's like WOW and Firefly had a kid and they named it Wildstar. They may get my money yet.

I don't even understand why you guys play MMOs in the first place. You demand arcade gameplay and MOBA combat and aren't interested in complexity or virtual worlds or role playing. Why the heck are you here? Why aren't you playing BF4, Halo and rest of that arcade crap? Age has nothing to do with wanting MMOs that feel more like a living breathing world with lots of fun activities aside from combat and carpal tunnel syndrome.
- Quest are short bullets, everything takes 30 seconds to complete. yet you would run 300 quest by level 8 ( exaggerating ).
Nope. There are short quest, but that's by no means the norm. Lots of quests, yes. You can even skip some *gasp*!
- Quest marker arrows. They take you by the hand with everything, but without them your lost. Down hallways around corners, above ground and below. So you cant turn nothing off. Your simply stuck with arrows. This is not 100%, you can click on the map, but the game is designed to use the arrows.
The arrows are optional, the come up when you click the quest, like when you need help. Otherwise, you can use the map to navigate. Short of running around without any clue, how would you like to be told what to do with your quest? Sorry it doesn't have auto-run to quest. Maybe a browser-based game would be more suitable for you?
- Around level 6 you leave the starter area. It doesn't get much better. Quest hubs are EXTREMELY condensed. A hell of a lot of POW and ZOOM going on. Scanners scanning everything around in an obnoxious fashion.
Yea, I guess if it's too busy stick with a game that less populated, or one that's sooo huge you won't ever see a living soul. Also, you find plenty of stuff "off the beaten path", i.e. outside of quest hubs. The hubs largely drive the story line of the exile-dominion conflict.
Mhmm, too much stuff to do. Again, maybe another huge, empty game would be better suited for your taste for a game with more downtime.
- Warrior or a malee class seems much better at least for me. My Spellslinger ranged class was a pain in the butt trying to aim my telegraphs on the ground like shining a flashlight.
Heh, yea, since that's kinda WS's thing, nothing to be done here. You really should look at other games then if this is hard for you. Lots of tab-targetted games around still. No aiming required.
I have no idea what your complaint is, honestly. You feel like you made a wrong decision in "customization"? What would be the right decision? Do you need everybody in town to run up to your character and say "Wow, you look so cool!! Please have my children!!"It's become a theme, but maybe another game with less customization choices is better for you? You know, one where everybody hates the same stuff and will come up to you and say "Wow, you are soo cool for playing THIS game!! Please have my children!!"
- It makes me hate the color red, and extremely colorful things
Rule #1 of MMO's: don't stand in the red. If you didn't hate red you're doing it wrong.
And lastly, maybe another huge, empty game that's less demanding in "customization", just looks drab and like it's using only 16 colors, is full of people who hate the same stuff you dislike and congratulate you for being smart because you made the same choice as they did, might be more your stick.

This entire thread is great. The amount of time people put in to being disappointed is amazing. When I don't like a game or think that it's not for me, I pretty much stop thinking about it and for sure don't go to the forum dedicated to it and express my disappointment.
Perhaps I'm not thinking this through. Maybe I should head over to the Final fantasy XIVIIIX forum and let everyone know how sad I am about the overly googly eyed graphics and how they could have been so much better. Perhaps the Rift forum wants to know all about my ideas for making it a better game than it is. The SWTOR forum has to know all about my dashed hopes for a fun Star Wars MMO. perhaps the ESO forum has a need to hear about my complaints about the crappy bugs they still have not fixed since the first beta weekend that make the quest chain fall apart at level 8.

It's more like classic wow than cataclysm, no big quest chains you need to finish before next step and combat is not as easy - at least until lv 10. You should get a beta key and decide yourself about the game.
Obnoxious is actually a very good word for describing Wildstar. I went into it REALLY wanting to like it -- I mean I have followed it for years and have quite a bit of mental sunk cost.
Playing it though -- eek... The three classes I tried were all annoying in one way or another. None of them did I actually say "this is the class for me." Getting to actually PLAY a class meant an obnoxious run through the tutorial again and skipping quests was pretty much non-allowed. Yes it was FAR too BUSY. It was like taking a real world themepark and mixing up all of the rides so the fun house has the roller coaster running through it and the ferris wheel is at an angle so it can go around the roller coaster. If I am going to do the same thing five times, at least let me have the quests that act on that monster all at the same time. Killing 10 monsters to eradicate them then killing 10 more to retrieve their necklaces then 10 more to collect hair samples... And yes the arrows are annoying. Combat doesn't flow like it does in Tera or Vindictus.
I originally thought it lacked polish and they tried to force too many things into too small an area, but obnoxious just sums it up so much better.
Comments
know wounder devs have no idea what to do with games these day, players seem to be so fussy over every single detail.
WE want fast pace action, wait, that's to much.
We want x but not y, but x needs to be like y and z, but we don't want z. Omg where's w?
People can have preferences and there's nothing wrong with that, but people seem to be on a whole another level with mmos. #
Only way i can descripe it lol

There is a certain amount of irony here.
I've pretty much decided that anything that evokes this sort of reaction here is something I ought to probably try.
^ yes yes yes and yes you sir should get the "Troll Basher" award because this post was just 100% truth
Witty & Wicked
So basically it's WoW: MoP style of questing that takes longer and is a tad more difficult + dungeons that are not aoe fests?
For someone who quit WoW for good because of Cataclysm 1-60 quest design this may not be a good enough game to play. I think i could enjoy it a bit longer than WoW if the dungeons in WS really are that great.
I hope they will add some kind of trial period after the launch so i could make up my mind before spending my money for WoW clone #n..
Thanks for sharing your experience in WS, it sure has helped a lot.
Thanks for sharing, fits perfect

I have no idea what your complaint is, honestly. You feel like you made a wrong decision in "customization"? What would be the right decision? Do you need everybody in town to run up to your character and say "Wow, you look so cool!! Please have my children!!" It's become a theme, but maybe another game with less customization choices is better for you? You know, one where everybody hates the same stuff and will come up to you and say "Wow, you are soo cool for playing THIS game!! Please have my children!!"
- It makes me hate the color red, and extremely colorful things
Rule #1 of MMO's: don't stand in the red. If you didn't hate red you're doing it wrong.
And lastly, maybe another huge, empty game that's less demanding in "customization", just looks drab and like it's using only 16 colors, is full of people who hate the same stuff you dislike and congratulate you for being smart because you made the same choice as they did, might be more your stick.
Good luck with that and keep the hate strong!
Me thinks you quoted the wrong people.
No that would be silly.
It's more like classic wow than cataclysm, no big quest chains you need to finish before next step and combat is not as easy - at least until lv 10. You should get a beta key and decide yourself about the game.
I like this
Obnoxious is actually a very good word for describing Wildstar.
