Landmark and the lag

OK gang lets get to it.....

my rig to play games isnt too shabby.......my PC will play most games at a reasonable lvl inc ESO beta

NWN GW2 etc etc...i dont want to go into details over my rig cause in this day and age why the fuk should i....

Now if you really want to sign up up for EQ Landmark get ready for the lag....dont listen to all the abuse iam about to get

i have played every game under the sun.... the SOE lag in landmark is typical of their titles...its like being bak in SWG again

with 15-30fps and if i fall outa the world again iam goin to lose my grip....

the most upsetting thing about it is its fairly addictive so the frustration is heightened......they MUST optimize this game fast

********holds the gates as the....:its in beta what do you expect load of bollix kicks in ******* hold fast

yea, landmark is still pretty much late alpha.  I wouldnt call it beta just yet.  I am disappointed in SOE for trying to move too fast.  Their game world is not really ready for masses of people just yet.  That said I do play but its kind of a drag having to harvest so much just to get started.  I guess minecraft isn't much different but then in minecraft i dont have to worry about "staking my claim".   I just setup where i want and get to building/harvesting/whatever.   I'm not thrilled about outright losing my claims if my upkeep runs out.  That's a huge turn-off to me.

The Landmark Closed-Beta introduction video covers what they want beta to be.  He specifically talks about the differences between open and closed for this project.  I won't go over the details.  If you want to know more, watch the video.

Pappacube, I agree about upkeep.  It's prominent issue in the beta forums right now.  I don't think it should be a game-play element whatsoever.  Handle old claims outside of the client (log-ins, account settings or something).

In response to the OP and lag, I'm getting a little lag when everything is set to Ultra, but it is still playable and not chunky or glitchy.  At medium-high settings, I'm not noticing anything.  I'm usually streaming music and wife is watching Netflix (streaming) while playing, and it has no effect on gameplay lag; I'm at 10down and 1up.  I'm sure optimization will come.  They have made many improvements to graphics, so I'm chalking up the new lag I'm seeing at Ultra settings to that.

Are other people experiencing lag issues?

I am probably one of the few that thinks some form of upkeep is absolutely necessary for the long term health of this game.  Without it there won't be places to build and Landmark will degenerate into a shanty town of abandoned plots.  Not only that but there needs to be a increasing cost the more plots you have or people will just gobble up as many plots of land as they can.

I'm not saying there isn't room for improving the system and they need to make the max time you can pay rent for much longer than 5 days but something like upkeep is absolutely required in this game.

As for lag yea I run into it from time to time but it is still early beta so I won't beat up SOE over it.  I am inclined to beat them up over introducing the cash shop in closed beta and having purchases carry over to live however as I think that's a conflict of interest in the highest order and really not what beta should be about.

That was my experience as well, when I first logged in i was getting 5-10 fps, turned the graphics down to medium settings just to test if that was the problem, and it shot up to around 35 fps. After that it was pretty smooth. Granted I didn't play that long, not really my type of game.

MY question is, what is up with SOE and shiny terrain? LOL I remember when they added new features to SWG and the terrain got all shiny. Hate it..

I'll say that my performance has greatly increased since they went to beta. I still get laggy when I am loading a new area, but it's pretty light and only lasts a few seconds at best.

I'll have to mirror some of what the others are stating already. The upkeep costs aren't terrible (you can farm almost 5 days worth of copper from one decent sized vein), and they are very much needed for the overall health of the game. Claim space is already pretty short in "desirable" areas. The biggest upkeep issue is the short duration. 5 days is far too short, as it stands if you want to take a vacation or have some real world obligations that keep you away you'll lose your spot. Hell, I work 12 hour shifts every Friday, Saturday and Sunday overnights, so my playtime is cut extremely short 4 days per week (Monday is my recovery day). So, as it stands much of my short free time on one of those days is purely for upkeep, which is not exactly fun or exciting.

I could go on with things that need to be tweaked, but that's not with this thread is about.

Lag isn't nearly as bad as it was a month ago, though it is getting better still not perfected. Glad to not be floating up mountains anymore and glad they made the parkour more fluent, but otherwise yeah it's still early development, better they iron this stuff out before dropping in npc's and caves....which will be awesome once implemented and I can't wait but really want the kinks ironed out first.
