Kinda surprising in the way ESO displays half of your log in information in game. Normally the gold farmers just run their list of usernames and passwords from other games. Now they can narrow the list down and hack more efficiently.
I imagine in game mail was disable due to the ease of hacking and looting of your character it provided. This coupled with some of the other account crippling bugs is going to overwhelm their poor customer service reps.
Mail was disabled because it was being used as an unlimited bank source.

Other than Rift, this has been the best launch I have seen in my gaming history. Indeed it is a smooth launch.
LOL comparing the perfection that was Rift launch to this hot mess is nuts.
Granted the first 2 days were not horrible, the server load issues of day 3 have totally broken the game.
Sorry but on day 3 of Rift it was still running smooth as greased silk.
LOTRO, Rift, SWTOR were pretty much flawless, even GW2 with its share of issues (trading post) vast majority of people could still play without trouble (minus few that had connectivity issues)
Considering pretty much all issues from beta are here, with few added extras - thumbs down for ESO im afraid.
Miracle patch (as fanbois preached) didnt land (as expected).
Wait..... I got the game but have barely made it out of the starting island (playing an hour or 2 every day) and theres already people at cap? And an emperor crowned? Good lord.
Playing: FFXIV, DnL, and World of Warships Waiting on: Ashes of Creation

What concerns me is my own choice. It just astounds me when ZoS came out and said it would take such long time to get to 50 and then BAM 50 in one day. No need to get rude over it.

I'm not sure how stating a fact is rude to you, but I'm sorry if you feel that way.
I have played about 23 hours and I'm just now at level 12. I am playing the game as a player, not a level cap achiever. If you want to use what others have done as a meter or guage to the games content, you have to look at the entire picture. Take into account all of the players, not just the highlights.

As far as the security concern goes, this likely isn't as big an issue as you actually think it is. Generally there are related database tables which hold your user and character information separately. So, the thing is, that these tables generally don't contain redundant data, so your user is usually linked to your character with a unique ID. That's all. Yesterday the 3-day headstarters came online, so my guess is that they had to do some updates to these tables. It's entirely possible that 1) they merged 3-day headstart account details with the live data and mucked something up, maybe rolled it back. It's probably more likely that, 2) they tried to re-index (re-number) these tables and something went horribly wrong. Either that or they just tried to do it while people were in-game (which would just be silly).
Either way, I don't think this would compromise your personal information. In order to access your account you still need to authenticate your user. If someone got an email about someone using their account and they weren't using it, then it could be someone literally accessing their account because they use god passwords, or the same database-related issues could affect that, if the databases synced and the systems realized that someone was actually logged into the wrong account.
It's a big boo-boo, but characters can be recovered without much difficulty (unless they just took all your stuff and sold it or something). Personal info likely isn't an issue, though, it's probably people with weak passwords or people who don't realize that they've already been hacked in 10 other games.
As for the other issues, people levelling in 24 hours is nothing new. Old news. Happens with every game. "Real" people will probably take weeks to get through this.
Server overflows, yeah, hated it! It's sort of expected, though, since 3-day headstarters came on yesterday. Shoot, the first couple days of the 5-day head start were crowded enough. Haven't seen a queue yet, though....... IDK, maybe that's the problem, lol. Last night I crashed out twice in a half hour period. Looking forward to Launch. That should be scary
I haven't seen any duping happening yet, but I'm assuming if it's a problem then ban hammer will be incoming.

OMG someone else who has a basic understanding of how these databases generally work and how it isnt a huge deal like people are making it out to be.
Most of the people freaking out over it have likely never even seen, let alone done any work in a database for a game (or any other system for that matter).
Most systems are setup to where I could go into the database delete your character, recreate a new character in its place with a new name, new class, new level, load your inventory with items of my choosing, teleport your character to where I want it to be upon your next login, etc (Yes... I have done this to people before as a prank lol. It can be very entertaining watching them freak out about it) all without ever having to see or touch anything to do with your actual account information, just a character name is plenty.
Instead of deflecting why not focus on THIS game and the increasing number of SERIOUS issued that are manifesting themselves?

some of my favorite games have had far worse launches than this, this is nothing new for me.
all that said, it's not pleasant to not be bale to log in and play when you want to.
I consider broken phasing, paid access unable to log in, rife duping and account security breaches that may or may not include personal information to be VERY serious indeed.
All of this capped with the poor levels of customer service that so many are reporting SHOULD have alarm bells ringing
Catastrophic failure of account security letting players log their account in and access YOUR toons
Broken phasing still causing problems
Non starter Guild economy with 25% sales tax
Still many players encountering game breaking quest bugs
The first 48 hours of head start looked so promising too
I could probably let most of the list slide but other players accessing YOUR toons is HUGE. This is a massive security loophole and is simply unacceptable. The game should stay down until the can GUARANTEE this serious breach is fixed.
If there has been no "hack" and this is being caused by Zeni's OWN incompetence then thats even worse!
Either way, such a massive security risk means I will no way be purchasing the game, even if they fixed all the other problems in the next 5 minutes!
Yes, Zeni will never fix launch issues that happen on every launch of a mmo, you shouldn't buy it because you can't wait later.

Whats your source on this "Security loophole"?
The system message went out about them disabling in-game mail, my client crashed, and when I logged back in I was in SOMEONE ELSES account. I was completely in their account and on their character.
My username was @Shankerz, I could talk to other players, trade his inventory, everything. I was kicked out when he logged back in shortly after.
Upon logging in again, I was back on my character and account, but I had the other player's inventory still.
This is a pretty insane "bug" and needs to be looked at ASAP!
Edit 2: Just to clarify, I have absolutely no idea who the dude is whose account it logged me in to. He isn't in my guild, isn't on my friends list, anything - in fact, he was much higher level than me and on a completely different faction"
This doesn't sound like a quick maintenace at all, my precious.
Your "source" is a post you copied and pasted from another thread by another random user on these same forums? Interesting....
BTW, there is absolutely no evidence that this is any sort of actual security risk. It could be as simple as miscommunication between the login / authentication servers and the databases.
This is what people do. They use semantics to fuel an argument that doesn't exist. One calls it a security risk and another calls it a misscommunitcation. Seriously? You have nothing better to do? There is nothing here to argue, stop trying to start one. Can't stand people like this. You knew what that poster meant.

Actually, it likely is a communication error between the login server and the character data base. Still, thats a security risk because it means theres a back door somewhere that would allow a person to cause the game to associate their login information with someone else's @name.

Except for the one complaint that people are receiving bans and don't understand why. This would explain why. This needs to be addressed ASAP. You guys who suggest burying heads in sand could get burned pretty badly. Many launch issues can be ignored and people bitching in forums may or may not be taken seriously. However, I don't think this is one of those issues that can be brushed aside and ignored. Even if there is a full recovery, Players have lost something they paid for....Early access. But the damage can affect them for months. as players end up on hundreds, maybe thousands of ignore lists, socialization issues will persist long after ZM fixes what's wrong.

Then simply don't play and go to a forum of your choice that has a game you like. Praise that game and all will be fine for you. Denouncing a title after it has only been out a couple days is hardly fair to anyone.
Your comments are default by nature. Go back to any new release titles forums and they all have issues. There are always people painting images of a nuclear cloud and the total destruction of a game because of problems. These issues will get repaired, new ones will occur, and the cycle will repeat. The game will be just fine.
