That's pretty much it! I had a really hard time the past week, controlling my urge to buy the game.

Now, I am so glad (and proud of myself to controll the urge) I did not buy the game.

I will stay away and watch from the sidelines how this one goes.

Same for Wildstar. Haven't been exactly impressed to say it mildly.

I guess I'll stay out of the MMO space for a little while longer.

So far, I must say, it feels a little liberating really.

    Oh come on.

You are aware that the more you defend the game the worse it looks, right? A game stands on its own in front of detractors.

I'm not so much defending the game, but trying to grasp why people never learn. If you have played any game releases in the past, and then purchase this games pre-release, then you should be aware there will be problems. It is inherent in every single release. So if you are dumb enough to pay for the pre-release, you certainly have no right to complain about it.

Don't buy pre-release and you won't hurt your poor spoiled feelings.

If you say so. What i find interesting is that you spend a lot more time on forums instead of playing. If i wasn't re downloading the game again (thanks to crappy patcher) i would be in game right now rather than defending it.

Oh don't worry about me! I'm playing right now.  1day 6hrs. :) I defend all games I play by the way. But, the ones I dislike I just ignore. Seems like the sensible thing to do. It seems childish to try and discredit what others enjoy.

You're like my new favourite forum poster. You're mixture of logic and sarcasm is magical!

and then there are those of us who do numbers for a living and actually invest our real life dollars in the stocks of said games that we also play and we demand the numbers...and it is good publcity for the numbers to be advertised.

119,050 mud crabs to reach level 50. After someone got to 80 in WoW just by exploring and farming crafting materials, you've got to know that someone is actually going to try this.

I'm loving the game. Played a couple of Beta weekends, bought the imperial version, and now I'm playing several characters as I try out different class/skill/weapon combinations to see what I like the best.

I couldn't care less about advertising, my play experience has been great, and yes, it is very much a TES game.

given how meaningless beta registrations are there are two real tests this game has to pass for me to even want to touch it....post 30 day game launch retention and guaranteed content roll out and quality of said content. I refuse to fall for a tor like scam of promised content that stalls due to poor player retention numbers

    so say we all

Will the whiners never cease.  Yes, we get it, you don't like the game.  There is nothing earth shattering in this game, it is pretty much your typical fantasy MMO, but it sure beats playing nothing at all.  As to forum postings, never read them because the only people who post on them are the complainers.  Anyone basing any opinion of a game off a forum has rocks in their head.

The problem I have with ESO is that it has a subscription fee, a cash shop and requires an initial purchase. Considering that the game, as far as I know, doesn't offer anything outstandingly new, I don't see a reason to pay all that. If it would have absolute terraforming, or 100% dynamic weather based on the landscape and season, or a character creation system that allows you to create characters in ways never seen before in an MMORPG, then I might consider it. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Well, now I know that five polar bears weigh about as much as 360 spider monkeys.  Thank you Zenimax and Elder Scrolls Online!

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

    This.

If nothing else I would have expected box sales to be extremely brisk based on the TES factor alone. Those sales should have given them something worth bragging about.

That they're having to try and get milage off of meaningless beta numbers is not a good sign.

I dont know why you thought TES fans would enjoy ESO since it isn't a TES game. Sure it uses the same UI, lore and races, but the similarities stops there. What makes the TES games so good is not present in ESO, its just a simple fact.

I've Been playing since Beta 1. It took me a while to get into it, and in beta 3  I was unsure if I was going to buy it. I bought it on the last beta and I haven't had this much fun since my eq2 days way back. The content is actually meaningful, the progression IS NOT broken unless YOU decide to farm mobs for hours on end ( which HAS been nerfed) and also YOU are choosing to play that way and then proceeding to bitch about a lack of content or that its "boring"... go figure.

This game grows on you and the game itself grows at a modest pace as you play it, they DON'T hand you all your skills  by 1/3 the level cap ( cough cough.. guildwars 2) so you actually have to work towards a build you want as opposed to being bored of that play-style in the first 2 days of the game.

Haters gonna hate but if you try the game and don't get into it by the early levels then its clear that you want a fast, free reward game or some COD twitch combat garbage.

I have played every mmo under the sun waiting for a game I could get into in the last 5-6 years, and as much as I put my share of hours into all these other games ( ex. GW2=2000+ hours, + numerous hours in most others to give them a go) and a lot of those games have been well worth the box price on terms of time spent playing... THIS GAME is the first time I've felt good about paying a sub for a game in the last 4ish years.

In closing, If you don't like the game  that's fine; but please don't make shit up or talk about the game in its early stages in an effort to push people away from it.

Anyways not going to post anymore on this subject because I'm actually too busy playing and loving the game.. .Hope you give it a shot.

    Peace

As an ES fan since Daggerfall, I was looking forward to a large ES MMO.  However, after playing in the beta, this is not what most (of the people I know, at least) ES fans wanted.  We wanted the equivalent of a co-op ES game.  This is just another MMO with an ES coating.  Thus, despite the huge ES fan base, ZO is not going to get the huge ES fan population they may have been expecting .

I highly doubt you've ever tried Scarlet Blade or ROSE Online :D

So your intro sentence is a lie

While it is good that many people heard of the game and want to try it it doesn't tell us much on how the game will do.

Subs 3 months after launch is really the first indication we will get to know that as previous games have showed us.

And, no. I am not trying to bring the game down or anything but we have to be realistic here. If the game keeps enough players after 3 months (say 60% or 1,5 million players) we are talking about a success.

If you just looked on beta applications or sales the first week then some games would be huge successes that have few players now and lost most of the players the first few months.

The "XY registered users" scheme never gets old, i love it. It's fluff-marketing as good as it gets.

Anyone remember when Trion came up with "something million accounts registered!!" or such and it turned out that it was users on their forums? Beat that, Zenimax! But then, only Trion PR can beat Trion PR..

That is the problem. You come in here with a mindset that everyone is out to get you and ESO. The actual mature thing to do would be to just play the game and have fun rather than indulge in back and forth while defending the game.

A good game needs no defense and a bad game has no defense.

My guess is 150k box sales so far. I wish companies would just release real numbers, really sad that other companies have to do the leg work to cut through the bull crap they fling.
