this is standard... if you set up a sub plan with  your CC or paypal they activate your 30 days free game time and you can cancel the CC or paypal afterwards. They won't charge you with a single coin.

This is the case with every sub based game I've ever played.

I haven't played a single MMO at release (That wasn't a f2p/don't have to buy) that did NOT require a valid CC (or prolly a time card?) when you create your account. You never EVER got charged until the "2nd" month started.

if you feel it's a scam uninstall ESO and never play it again.

unless you willingly allow yourself to be scammed? oh and while you are at it label most mmo's scams as well and just play F2P games where you don't have to put in your CC info, problem solved!

these forums never cease to amaze the fuck out of me.

Games move on, but mindsets will still stay.

The possibility of the universe collapsing into a singularity is higher than the birth of a perfect MMORPG.

They don't charge you anything but the reason they do this is because it's far easier to get those details when you just bought the game and are happy with it than at the 30 days period when you are not quite as excited about it.

Putting your credit card details in is more of a hurdle than actually paying for a lot of people, keep in mind these companies use psychology to make money and keep people paying and playing.  The longer the process of paying for that first month, the less likely they are to do it.

    Makes no sense.

+1 right here.  If the OP is a "frugal student" they'd be better of playing a F2P, ya think?

I've been playing for subs since my first MMO, UO and even before that when I was playing NWN on AOL. Don't remember ever being uptight for paying for something that I wanted to do. Hell even having a picnic costs money. Who knew?

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn did not require a sub., but they did have my credit card info.  I just let the free trial expire, and they didn't charge me a dime.  I'm sure you'd be able to do the same with a debit card instead of a credit card.

I feel like there is a heavy case of selective memory going on around here. As many others have stated, requiring billing information (game card or credit/paypal) in order to activate your account has been standard practice for sub-based MMOs for probably as long as they have been around. Manufactured outrage over non-issues may as well be trolling for a rise out of people, so we're going to go ahead and lock this one up.
