Manufactured outrage over non-issues may as well be trolling for a rise out of people, so we're going to go ahead and lock this one up.

Beautiful quote from MikeB on this thread: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/409502/page/9

Thread is locked........so should this one

    This..

So if you disagree with a business practice standard for MMO's or not it's regarded as trolling?

    No they didn't.

They had a charge validation applied against the payment method - there's a huge difference, one takes money out, the other checks to ensure the account is valid.

My household has 3 accounts, each was paid by a different method (VISA, Paypal, Debit) - not one was charged a penny.

OMG, if only they have the time to READ the email they sent after activating.

Massively post a total lie! ZOS did not charge a single penny yet, I have activated with my CC.

You don't need to setup your subscription to get your 30 Days free that is included within the game

So a company has a simple billing error, refunds people and this is a huge issue why?

Mistakes happen, they rectified it quickly.  They aren't stealing money it was a mistake.

  • SmoeySmoey Member UncommonPosts: 601

Use PayPal it doesn't charge you. If you cannot afford the cost of a trip to the Cinema being taken out of your bank and put back in then simply contact their customer support and they will activate it for you.

This really isn't a problem and all of the 'haters' are just jumping on this as there really isn't much else to jump on. Sure there is also a couple of bugs but what game/program doesn't have bugs? Hello World? oh please...

Therefore this title is bulls... it does not force you to pay for a sub you get refunded if using a CC and you can easily just use customer support or paypal.

They did on very first day of people activating their accounts after pre release days came to end. But not anymore, they solved the problem. S nope its not a lie you are just late to the party.

Been playing since 5 day early access. Have a level 20, experienced one bug quest, no roll backs, and set up two subscriptions without getting charged. So far I call it the smoothest MMO launch I have witnessed. Other people may have issues but the wife and I have been golden so I have to hand it to them! They did a great job!

I did not have to, 5days preorder gone, now the client shows how many of my 30 days are left. Got my game as a digital from Zenimax and no account issues.

well well well, look who finally decided to play his first p2p mmo.

this is not the first mmo doing it, and it wont be the last, and for the record:

you dont pay for the free month, you pay for month 2.

There were some MMOs that required you to put in valid credit card - BUT  ESO is first ever to actually require a charge of 15$ before you can play your FREE month

I challenge anyone to tell me another MMO that charged 15$ before you can play "free" month.

And this is all not counting people that want to use gift card , pre paid game time ... etc

They actually need to pay 1 month in order to play another month free

All in all Zenimax made something of no precedent. So dont pretend this all ready happened.

BTW even in time of Subs - companies that needed CC card before playing free month were frowned upon.

Just check treads from AOC launch (But yea, even they didnt swoop so low to CHARGE YOU first)

    its a temporary verification charge

but you are correct - this is the first time a mmo charged this high to verify a card

  • SilentstormSilentstorm Member UncommonPosts: 1,126

To be correct what happen is it charged me but gave the money right back.

The problem with that is if you have no money or at the limit on the card. You basically get declined. Or worse yet if you have restrictions on your account. You don't even get the charge back money right away.

They just need to fix the charging system. Because that will turn a lot of people off.

It was never a whine though, rather a serious complaint.  A free month included should mean a free month included, and not free only if you set up a payment plan.

What part of free do some people not understand?

Its pretty standard to give credit card details when getting your free months. As long as you cancel your sub before the free months is over you wont get charged.

I've had 15 bucks on hold for 5 days now.

This is not standard at all.

So your 15 bucks are freed up now and you can use it?

    Wish I was so lucky.

If i recall this is normal OP, and if i remember you would have to do it day one of entering any mmo game.

Also did you really get billed $15, no, and you can cancel right away and still play for 30 days.

But... i was rather PO'd yesterday when i was playing and my group fell apart as they got kicked for not having done the sub model yet.

I got 208 days left to play...I'm happy with the game.  It was a bug with billing, nothing more.  People that don't like the game will say, omg they're ripping people off.  I've never seen a game that had so many that don't play or hate the game in it's forums since WoW....which could be a good thing :D
  • Four0SixFour0Six Member UncommonPosts: 1,175

Watched these threads, thought about it.

My conclusion, I wont play ESO. If you buy a game and get a key, that should be enough to pay for 30 free days. Charging the FULL price as auth charge, almost like stealing to me.

Have fun with your game. :)

Actually yes, I was billed 15 dollars, the money is frozen and pending.

I cannot cancel now and have that 15 bucks I'd still have to wait for them to un freeze it.

this is NOT standard by ANY means for MMOs, I've been playing them since UO and played nearly every single one that came out since, this is THE FIRST to do this intentionally.

Really?  How did you get the bug fixed?

I've tried contacting their support 13 times now to get this issue resolved, they keep sending me generic forum replies that make no sense in context with my problem.

I've made attempts to contact them via phone or email and no luck, same results, they don't read my problem.

So much drama over $15. If I did get charged, even temporarily, I never noticed. I think this is getting way overblown and has little or no long-term impact on the success or failure of the game.

Yeah, except I paid for two accounts, so 30 bucks sitting there that should be my money for another month I can't use, and they won't explain why it's still frozen.

This whole thing is shady as all get out.
