Sadly none of those games come close to being on my radar and none of them offer me what I want out an MMO. And for the love of god quit it with the MOBA's. Stupid genre that is setting back MMO's by the decade.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

Two things to mention about your post:
First, the last 8 years of failed WoW clones and cheap knock-offs didn;t give you a guess as to the future?
Secondly, Everyone is making MOBA's because they are cheap, are MMO like (it's a stretch but the MMO PvP crowd is eating the genre up) and serve the Me-Now and Microwave ready generation.
The day's of Triple-A Innovative MMO's have been over since the dawn of the mega-hit WoW. Back before then every single MMO was new, fresh and innovative. From UO to EQ, from Asheron;s Call to DAoC and from SWG to City of Heroes.

From my understanding, they said they'd start to sell them online if they were popular sell at PAX. If the Twitter and other sources are any indication, they are very popular and will become an item available through some store (similar to how the Rytlock plushie is on the PA store). So, ignore those eBay nutters that don't give 2-turds about the actual item and instead are just cash grabbing; they'll lose out as the item becomes a common to TRUE fans.
On topic: With Wildstar winning "Best in Show" -no surprise-, I'm certain surprised that it's not won "Most Anticipated" instead losing out to Star Citizen. Not sure why a game cannot win 2 awards in one setting, as at the Oscars, Golden Globes, etc. something/someone can win in more than one category. By tell of all the hype going through people with it's launch inching ever so closer, it's hard to NOT call it highly anticipated compared to other games. And that's no offense to the hybrid singleplayer/multiplayer Star Citizen thingy that calls itself an MMO :P
Originally posted by bobfish Was expecting to see more MMORPGs in the list tbh.
Yeah when they put MMORPG AWARDS in capitals you expect to see you know... MMORPG awards. PAX isn't even about MMORPG's... whomever wrote this is very uninformed.
Furthermore, Portalarium is not a person. Obviously the writer was referring to Richard Garriot.... but still.
I bet they really didn't have hardly any mmos worth mentioning other than Wildstar and TESO, of which, TESO released so it doesn't have to be on this list.
Honestly , the only mmos I know on the radar are EQNEXT and Titan (whenever they give more information).
I'm not suprised that Star Citizen is so desired, but for me, because it isn't even an MMO, I want to learn more about EQNext and Titan...
Fewer MMOs, their replacement by dumbed down MOBA's, the fact we only had two P2P/B2P MMO releases last year, that this site is now reviewing solo RPG games. And still so little recognition by industry journalists the MMO genre is fading away.

I felt the same way walking the convention floor. Pretty barren as far as MMOs go, but the panel MMORPG.com did made me feel a little better. Some of the devs there didn't have presence at the convention but were working on games pointed in the direction the industry needs to move.

Prodigy is the only game that sounds remotely good for my liking however way too early.Soe's version that is now defunct using a gorgeous figurines combines with a card game failed and did not go far enough.I am not so sure with a very limited budget that these guys can make Prodigy a full game.I say that because it shows them playing using a very limited board of maybe 6 spots and we never really see a game world but more like some weak instance area.
Still i will try and keep an eye out for it in the future.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Originally posted by discord235 Yeah it was definitely Wildstar's show, considering they were the only MMO. Who cares about crappy indie MOBAs?
Pax has become pretty disappointing. This is the first time in 5 years I'm actually considering not going because there just isn't anything I really want to see. Not really the pax peoples fault but last year felt pretty meh...and this year doesn't look any better.
I think there is a lull in major MMO development because of the transition to free-to-play and there is already a lot of uncertainly around the 3 games launching/launched with pay-to-play requirements (ESO, Wildstar, FFXIV: Realm Reborn). Perhaps they're just waiting to see if those games take a dive or if there will be a return to people paying subscriptions now that the economy is recovering (at least in the US).
That being said, Asia is still cranking out mostly junk (just my opinion), and the market remains highly over-saturated. Not to mention that there has been almost a complete lack of innovation in new MMO releases for quite some time. Little tweaks to the formula, sure, but not any real major changes. And I think it really needs that.

I never mentioned "innovative" MMOs. I happen to enjoy WoW- like MMOs. I enjoyed Rift, TOR, Aion etc...I am learning to accept more active combat like in GW2 and Wildstar. But all I see in the future are lobby based co-op, MOBAs, space sims, and build-your-own games like Landmark and Trove. These are not what I want in an MMO.
I think people fail to read. It's not like there was a plethora of mmos at pax to make an entire award article about. Hell, even with rpgs it seemed like slim pickings
The realities of the industry are becoming really obvious. Short term games are in, anything long term is a real stretch because the funding is just not there.
I found MOBA's to be fun at first and then exceptionally boring once you have played them a few times. How anyone can put up with such mindless repetition constantly is beyond me. They must have a high threshold for boredom.
Originally posted by Moirae Nearly every one of these are no name games. Just shows how lacking the industry has become that nothing AAA exists on this list with maybe Star Citizen being the possible exception. Pity Star Citizen exists as a solely PvP mechanic.
Pity you don't know what you are talking about.
Pity I do know what I'm talking about and you just don't like it. I'm willing to bet you're a pvper too.

Admitting the upcoming moba's are just clones of LoL and Dota 2, proceed to give them an award.
Almost the same for "guild wars 2 with a subscription" aka Wildstar..
Yeah....
