How demanding is this game? (PvP)

MikeJezZMikeJezZ Member UncommonPosts: 1,268

I know I have been active for quite some time in here regarding ESO and have played since launch, but I just noticed how "hard" the actually game is.

I dont mind games being complicated - problem is it seems to be too time consuming for me.

I just had a discussion in my guild, I play a nightblade currently.

They are saying it is the hardest class to play (Pvp wise), one mistake, and you are already dead. Is this true?

I do not think its the hardest class to play , just build your class up to use its cc abilities.  Alot of nightblades seem to be runing these ranger like siphon builds that are fine for pve but cannot withstand burst dps in pvp. Also pvp is about burst dps and crowd control so build your character out there to kill as fast as possible or take advantage of crowd control and you should be fine. Or since you have a guild , that hopefully run together why not setup a premade group to run out there with to take advantage of all the classes and builds skills and weakensses.

I've died some and I've enjoyed that I've had to think my way through more than a few encounters rather than face rolling the keyboard, but I haven't found the game as challenging as you. I can't speak to the nightblade though. I'm playing a Sorc using heavy armor, sword & board, and a bow.

But how to enter a fight is more important for a nightblade than a sorcerer. It can be crucial if a nightlade does not start the fight right?

I play a night blade khajiit for my co-main (I also got an imperial templar tank, same level lol)  The thing about Nightblade (I'm dual wield), is that you either wreck npcs, or they totally own you.  I'm not entirely sure why this is, but it's just something i've noticed.  I believe it has to do with casters.  Against physical targets my NB is pretty awesome, i don't think they deal as much damage as the mages.  However, against mages, if I don't do my first attack (sneak attack) on them, I'm doomed.

If I take a look at my templar, it is a lot more forgiving.  with puncture debuff and puncturing strikes aoe, I can take down a group of mobs fairly easy, but I have a harder time with bosses.  Not that it's harder, but it takes a lot longer.

My NB is like a race to see who kills who first.  My templar is more a battle of attrition, I can usually outlast my enemies.  If I had to pick one that was easier, it would easily be my templar.

Thanks for you input, but my thread is mainly about PvP :)

It just takes too long to level imo (spend to weeks getting to 23...) and I just want to play AvA at endgame really.

The game definitely takes a lot of hours to achieve anything.

I'm at 70 hours played and I'm level 41.  The levelling process is really, really slow.  That's not to say it isn't fun...it just takes a good amount of time.  You can level faster grinding mobs than you can questing...so if you're looking to save time you can do that.

Most of my clan is between vet 5 and vet 10... I'm way behind because they just blew through all the content and didn't listen to stories or anything.  They all say the grind from vet 1 to vet 10 is about TWICE as long as the 1-50 grind.  So by the time I'm vet 1 I'll probably have put maybe 80-90 hours into the game... then I will need to put in 150-200 more to hit vet 10.  By then Craglorn will be out and there will be even more content...and the level cap will be vet 12...so even more hours.

Long story short is that the game is very time consuming.  I would say if you casually played 5-10 hours a week, it would take you probably 6 months to a year to hit vet 10.

Not that hitting vet 10 is the end-all-be-all thing of this game...but for me the PvP is the most important thing to me.  And being vet 10 will be and is already becoming required in PvP.  I get 2 shot by vet 10s as a level 41.  Vet 10s can still 3-4 shot vet 1s,2s, and 3s.  So if you want to be competitive in PvP,  be ready for a long ass MMO grind.

If you just want to PvP why do you want to choose a game where 90% of the content is PvE ? Just ask this yourself. There are lots of PvP games in many genres out there.

Because I like to PvP in MMOs.

Don't misunderstand me. I am not saying you shouldn't play ESO, even if you just want to do it for PvP. Do whatever you like. It's just a fact that you need to PvE in ESO to PvP. You definately want those skyshards at least.

But you can also quick grind to max level without quests, collect as many skyshards you need for your build and be happy PvPing. But one thing will not change, the major content in ESO is PvE centric and also the future enhancements probably will be more focused on PvE than on PvP.

So if I would search a game for PvP it wouldn't be my first choice. ;)

Large scale pvp has a lot of aoe, so if you're playing Nightblade as an assassin type role you need to be more tactical in your approach and search for outliers. As usual, find that healer or mage standing just a little too far back or find that assassin that trying to take out your healers/casters.

If you try and jump into the fray you'll just melt. And you don't have the AoE to dish out like other classes. So it's about playing smart and picking targets.

However, if you've gone ranged, then you're no worse off than any other ranged. NB's have fear, invisibility, stuns, life drain - so you don't lack survivability skills (not to mention you can always pick up annulment, evasion, blur). NB has a pretty diverse tool set, but if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, you're dead.
