Ive been looking for a game/MMO to play where I dont need/have to make alts to play the game. Where my name will be known if I f*** up or for whatever I do in the game.
A game where people dont just pay to change servers to get away.
A game where people have to rely a little bit on other gamers (hence MMO) and cant/dont make everything in the game themselves.
A game where I can feel a part of the world without having more chars like; Guldfisk1, Guldfisk2, etc.
I dont really care if its a themepark game or sandbox. Ive played both and liked alot of them.
I even remember in WOW (before BC), people remembered names and what they stood for. You saw the same players around and knew them. I liked that, even if I dont like WOW as a game after a year (just darn boring and easy game).
Are the any games out there for me?

It sound as mute like you are looking for a game that doesn't let you make any other characters including remaking your main.
In that case the answer is no.
"need to make alts" is not very well defined.
You don't "need" to make alts in ANY game .. there is no requirement that you have to have two characters before you can play.
However, people do make alts for many reasons from sampling the play style to crafting for the main. There is no game where someone cannot find a reason to make a alt.
You're looking for a time machine, not an MMO.
I miss the days of reputation meaning everything as well.
First, I don't think there is an MMO where a player has to make alts. There are variations about how many a player may make, but I have not seen one where alt creation is a must.
Second, what are you saying about GW1 and GW2? Are you saying that you feel a part of those worlds? Are you saying they are examples of needed/not needed alts?
Other than that, Rift has a multiple role single character build in it, as does FF XIV:ARR. I am sure there are other MMOs where 1 character can do nearly everything, or at least more than 1 thing.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.- FARGIN_WAR
FFXIV.
FFXI.
You can be all classes, combat, gathering or crafting on one character.

I'd suggest Runescape. You can become rather well known on the forums, or on a particular server. Even famous Game-Wide. There is no server locking. If you want to change servers. You just change servers. If you want to change back or to another one all together you just do it. takes about 2 seconds. And, their is no class system. So, if you get bored of one thing you just do another. There are activities where it is good to partner up or be with a group (slaying, dungeonering, high level bossing), but ultimately your involvement and reliance on others is as much as you want it to be. You can make anything that is a player made item (some higher level stuff is from drops or mini games). Or you can just make money and buy what you want.
The thing about Runescape (I feel) is it defined F2P. Not just meaning that you can play indefinitely without ever spending a dime (even on subscription and cosmetics if your good enough). But, the way you play is very free. My one disappointment with it, is that they have gotten a little heavy on pushing spending money. You still don't have to spend a dime to play. But, it's just in your face a lot now that you can. Although, none of it is pay to win so it isn't that bad. Just a little annoying.
For those of you who don't get what the poster is saying you probably shouldn't have wasted everyone's time replying to his/her thread.
I like making alts it's my thing but yeah a game that would not need alts would be a game that gave plenty of storage space on your character and in the bank vault without charging your extra for more storage. That's what OP is getting at because that is what mules are for mainly - storage.
Other reasons for muling and why I like alts is trying the character creation screen out for all it's worth. I role play and each of my characters have an identity with back ground stories. I love making these. But the OP does not. OP would be looking for a game where you could customize your main characters appearance after creation.
FFXIV (prev poster brought it up and I happen play) discourages alts/muling but that does mean we don't need/want them. FFXI is where I learned to alt/mule so don't even go there. I did not think WoW gave enough storage space but I have not played that game since it's beta conception so I'm bad advice. I was told it was practically rewrote since then.
OP you did not mention if you loved to craft. Usually it's us crafters that are alt/mule conscience. We're always working the auction house. How do you feel about the auction house in your game? Do you just want to play and not bother to look in your inventory for this and that? TERA was not a very good crafting game and my inv was never full. There was lots for my main to do so I just never had time for alts. Maybe TERA is what you are after. Heavy on the quests. Or Everquest which plays like TERA.
And Neverwinter, which I happen to NOT like because crafting was crap, did not have any real reason for alts/mules.
Last, if OP means you want to try every class in the game on one character only then FFXIV is the only game where that is possible. Good luck!
I don't. There is more freedom to act if you don't have to care what strangers think. For example, i can just hit the quit button for whatever reason if i don't like the group.
TSW let's you unlock all skills on one character.
The first MMO you loved will always be the best. You will never get that feeling back stop trying.
OP, if you want fame or notoriety, just post a lot on the forums and back it up with some skill. If you don't want alts, don't roll any. Others have posted some good game suggestions.
Can only be one of a few races though. So you need alts for the other races.
i can suggest you firefall, at least
because 1 character can be everything

Sounds like you are looking for games with a bit of consequence and where reputation precedes you. Sandbox games will be your best chance to have this type of game play, and the only 2 i can think of right now is Wurm online and Eve Online. In about a year Life is Feudal will be out and that will also be a game to have a look at.
I play Wurm so i can give you a little insight about it, i play it for the content it has where you can literally do everything, but its hard to be a master at everything, you have to reply on a community which is what makes the game interesting. I dont fully agree with every game mechanic but for the most part as long as you have a good group working together you can make it a fun experiance. There is both PVE and PVP servers that you can sail across to, you can never just vanish after doing something very wrong, you will be outted on the forums and that rep will follow you everywhere.
If you happen to check it out feel free to let me know, i would not mind helping you out. I have a small group that has just recently come together so we are looking to start up something new.
Good luck with you game search.

"Vox Populi, Vox Deorum"
in maple story you have to make alts in order to gain extra stat bonuses to your main, the game has somekind of character card synergy system, and u need real money to get extra alt slots,
the game is so broken imo, i suprised some still play it
so yes there is games where you NEED to make alts,
try Rift, skillwise you dont need to make alts
i think...
