Crafting mandatory?

I've gotten to level 11 on my first character, and I'm enjoying the game, but I just wanted to know if crafting is essential to get gear while leveling? or do quests give a steady amount of gear as you progress?

I'm not really a crafter, and I'd rather be out in the world doing quests to obtain gear rather than having to grind mats to make it.

Thanks in advance! :)

craft is pretty good to pick up and if you like crafting id go for it  if not your guild should help ya out...and most of the quests give decent gear as well..but imo most of the quests early on give more heavy gear...also its not like like other mmos when you craft something it comes with stats on it..you need to craft your stats as well / enchanting

No its not mandatory you could buy plenty of new gear cheap in a trade guild (or multiple) but if you craft your own "grind" gear it will save you alot of gold.

no more repair cost, just craft some new gear whit the extra that at end level you can make a suit of gear that realy suits out.

(dont worry about skill points, you get plenty over time as you level onward, i sugest you install a mod named HarvestMap tho, it remembers were the crafting mats are you discover, nodes are statis)

You won't find enough gear often enough either through quests or from drops from mobs. I'm 15th and using heavy armour and I've probably had 6 or 7 pieces since level 1, and nothing since level 10 from quests. In fact most quest rewards, if they are armour, are light or medium in my experience.

If you're level 11, are you wearing all level 10/11 armour found in the world? You probably already know from your own experience you won't get upgrades every level from drops and quests.

The best gear I've found have been rewards from pvp. If you do enough pvp you might be able to keep upgrading your armour without making any.

You don't need to craft at all. I haven't, I'm level 24, and I'm doing just fine. In fact most of my main stats are on the verge of overcharged (like magic regen and max magica), so I had to put on heavy armor to compensate. People in forums tend to number crunch a lot because we are not the average folks playing most of which have no idea what they are doing so just play and enjoy yourself and don't worry about it. The combat takes some skill with knowing when to move, block, dodge, get out of a root, breaking an effect, blocking a power attacking, etc. It is more important that you know how to do that instead of worrying whether someone else has a blue or purple item versus your green or blue.

You basically need to concentrate on a couple of tradeskills (like most mmo's) as you level, or: -

    • inventory slots fill incredible fast despite buying all expansions you can afford.
    • you do not have the skill points to progress them.
So I would pick two and sell other mats for that 42 grand horse.

The way I see it crafting cost a lot of money.

Since you would have to break down and deconstruct all the stuff you get as drops that could be sold to venders. You will need hemmings, pitch and Honing stones from these drops. You would also need 5 of each for one peace made.  So that's a lot of drops of weapons and armor to break down.

Crafting is very time consuming.  To me time = money ( in a round about way ). Unless you really like to craft then OK, but depends on how you look at it.

I do have to say crafting is a large part of the game some people may become board if you don't like crafting.

Here is an alternate way to play :

Just farm mats in the world and sell them, as long as their are crafters you could become rich. However I would craft just high enough to get the ability to spot Jute, iron and lumber more easily......You would make money on mats to buy stuff.

Each zone has many public dungeons, ranging every few levels. Their is a mini boss in each. The mini boss is easy to find because there will be about five players continually waiting for them to re spawn.  Just hop in and kill them over and over again, you will get equipment for your level that way :)

I'm only level 15, I'm crafting but to be honest it's just not efficient. But if your the type that likes math, studying, and trying to get lucky with buying and selling " Hay " have at it !

Crafting isn't really necessary as you level up.   I don't even regularly replace my gear and I'm able to advance well enough.  Besides completing quests, dungeons and killing bosses, you can also find some nice gear inside locked chests that are scattered around.     I also find great gear in Cyrodiil.
