How many times will people fall for this rinse repeat garbage Aventurine puts out. Everytime their game subs go down they release some news that promise to fix all the things people have wanted for years.
I hope it succeeds, but people who have been around for as long as I have remember all the past news letters with things that never came to pass. I am sure they will put a few things in the game, but it will fall way short of anything they promise to release.
Dont let them trick you again. Wait until you see it in game before you fall for this trick again. I think this is the forth or fith time they have done this since release.
Good luck aventurine. I hope you succeed.
I even got banned for posting this on their main forums. lol. They IP banned my work computer. Remember when you could write anything on forumfall? Those days are long gone, their forums went carebear like the new game did.
You have been banned for the following reason:
Toxic to the community
Date the ban will be lifted: Never

Well its about time they clean up that forum. It probably was one of the biggest detractors to new people looking at the game. The in game community has always been much better, rivaling even the best MMO communities.
As to your message, there has already been a lot of great things added to this game. Sure, wait if you don't like the current iteration of the class system. Darkfall will be waiting. I however will be starting the alchemy grind for the new upcoming dye system coming next week.
I agree, the in game community is very good. But like other MMO's it has some bad seeds that turn off new players as well. I remember having an experience where I couldn't even get someone to help me when starting out, just to figure out features and things like that. Also having constant death any time I left a safe zone, although they fixed that in UW a little. But after getting past the initial issues I found a very helpful clan of people who were more than willing to help. I remember people starting newbie clans like NEW trying to get people to learn to play the game and get them on their feet before jumping in.
Anyway, DFUW is the best MMO around and it's only getting better. I'm not sure why OP is so sure AV is going to drop the ball. They've been consistently making the game better for the past year, and that includes while they were also busy with preparing for the Korean release.
Im sure they will drop the ball because thats all ive seen them do since they launched. Huge promises with no deliver.
Huge gaps with no communication, then all of a sudden they communicate tons for a few months then you drop off the face of the planet.
VIP forums? really? lets only communicate with a select few members. Yeah thats a dumb idea.
I guess you had to be around since launch to remember all the stuff they pulled. They always do this, nothing, until they hurt for subs. Really they have not done much even since the launch of UW or the game would not be dying again. Since the luanch of UW all you read is people begging for them to get off their azz and do something with the game. That went on for what a year or so, and what happened, people left the game in mass. Now that their subs are down, oh hey lets do the things people have been asking for years. same sh*t has happened in this game for YEARS. And me speaking my mind as to their poor practices is not cleaning up the forums. I am not trolling, I just know what they have pulled and I am calling them on it. They dont like that. The truth hurts.
I still hope they succeed, but ive been burnt too many times by them.
Dunno about that. At least not from looking at the global chat. Haven't seen a game with so much trolling ever. It's beyond toxic. It's gone so far that I shut it down after 3 days. I can't stand reading the shit that is written there. The peeps I actually run into sometimes ingame, seems much cooler.
They've actually improved/added to the game a lot since launch. Have you been playing it? [mod edit]
Still waiting on Darkfall 2010.
AV never had an open policy on their forums - they have always been fascist jerks. You probably just never realized it until you rocked the boat.
If they do implement open classes, that might be worth checking out. But honestly... a year after release and they still coudln't even finish their themepark classes -> how long do you think it will take for them to do sandbox classes?
Look at all the amazing patches since end of last year. I think they have already proven.
I'm not denying that they've been working hard, it's just that I want some major changes impemented first before I resub.
Is there something specific that you don't like about UW? The roles?
Yep. Although at first i thought it was a good decision in order to avoid the cookie-cutter builds of the previous DF game, after some time the game started to feel very bland; ofc, some other disastrous decisions were to blame too, like the universal player models and the lack of any -contrived even - alignment/racial theme ingame.
i know the DF2010 player models will take some time to implement (if at all), but I want to see the new character advancement system (which I believe will revert to the original armor-based design?) and at least some sort of alignment implemented first before i can gather the strenght to sub again.
Every time someone posts about DF:UW on these forums Badaboom and Holophonist are always the first to respond within 5 minutes about how "this is the best MMORPG ever made". Do you guys just sit and monitor these forums?
Anyways, what so many of you "new generation" Darkfall players fail to realize is that posts like this aren't referring to the current game. I agree that DF:UW is consistently getting better, but it is still a crap game. As an MMO, it has slowly worked its way from a 2 to a 5. Whereas its predecessor, at least combat wise, was a 10. I'd say DFO as an MMO was an 8. Nobody cares that DF:UW is getting better because the game is garbage.
I've followed Darkfall since 2007. For the past 7 years, Aventurine has been nothing short of the worst online game developer in history. Now, for the past 3-4 weeks, a decade after the announcement of Darkfall, AV finally seems to be getting their act together.
Al that being said, if they remove classes from the game and achieve the goals they've set forth, DF:UW will become a respectable game that rivals or even exceeds its predecessor.
Even I will admit their improvement of communication seems sincere. In the past we've seen huge announcements like this (Darkfall 2010 anyone?) and then they simply never happened with 0 communication past the announcement. Now we've seen this huge announcement...and they have followed up consistently saying "we understand why you guys don't trust us and we hope to prove you wrong." This "new AV" seems promising.
I hope they can deliver on their new "vision" for Darkfall. But me personally, I'll believe it when I see it. If they follow through, I could definitely see myself returning to the game (haven't played for more than 2-3 weeks since 2009 in DFO)

Anyway, all you're doing is stating your opinion. You think the game is garbage. Got it. I think it's the best game on the market. The key difference is I've played it, and you just kind of haven't. I'm curious what game you ARE playing, if any.
by the way, you say "posts like these" aren't concerned with the direction of the game, cause the game started out so bad. But the entire point OP is making is that AV isn't/won't make the game better. I'm glad you agree with us and disagree with the OP. I look forward to your response to him, explaining why AV is indeed improving the game.
AV communicated for a few months after 2010 was announced, then they vanished. I said I hoped they do it, because it would be the best game on the market, however I also said I would waste money on it until I see it completed.
Also safe zones? Really? Darkfall and safe zones don't mix. Don't you love having someone run using all the neat escape spells to get himself to a safe zone and play the border hoping game? Yeah I do too that is so fun.
now they did hint at reworking the safe zones and doing something meaningful with the alignment. If they got rid of the safe zones AND classes, I would probly try it again. Those two things need to happen together. However, I still doubt them. Plus they don't work a lot, there greek and take like months off at a time. So even if they do something with this new crap they promise, It could be a year down the road.
Well, AV has stated that these changes are only months in the making, not years. So take that as you will. AV's past track record of promises is not the best. That said, AV has been doing a great job lately and deserve some positive recognition for once.
the thing is, this time they deliver. huge patches like Territory Controll and armor dyeing (next week) is already in
I've played the game for 2-3 weeks here and there when they release big patches. Every time I give up because the game is horrible.
For me, the game is mostly awful because of the classes, non-existent loot tables, boring as fuck prowess grind (kill 180 of every mob in the game...seriously?), and no skill mechanics like skirmisher dash, warrior stampede, and wobble (un-predictable RNG to aiming...really?).
With these updates they've said they are removing classes, fixing loot tables, and they've added some more prowess options already....that's a good step. I just won't be giving them a cent until it's all in the game and working properly. I give it 12-18 months before these changes are in game and properly functioning, if they make it in at all.
I just want to warn you guys. Everyone I know from the DF community is talking about how this sounds eerily reminiscent of the "Darkfall 2010, Darkfall Arena, Darkfall 2.0, Darkfall Unholy Wars" fiasco. At this point, they are basically designing Darkfall 3.0...and even worse is Darkfall 3.0 is being directed by a group of 40 incompetents known as the MVP forums. The ring-leader of which (Syncaine) is absolutely one of the most pathetic individual people I've ever encountered on this planet.
Darkfall - Sick
Earthrise - Sick
It's a completely reasonable thing to hold back until the changes are actually in. When people post on the forums asking if it's worth it to come back after hearing about these changes, I tell them they should probably just wait if the only reason they're coming back is because of the upcoming stuff.
That being said, I and many others think it's a really great game, and more importantly, it's the best game on the market. I can understand people's preference for DFO combat... but what game are you playing that you don't consider to be garbage? Or are you not playing anything because it 's all shit compared to DFO?
I'm playing ESO and really enjoying it. The PvP is the best siege combat of any game since DAOC. The PvP is so much of a blast it doesn't even bother me that it isn't full loot.
The siege combat of DF:UW doesn't even come remotely close to that of ESO. It's extremely well done and the server performance is spectacular. I've literally had almost 1500 people on my screen at once with no FPS or lag issues. This happened at the end of beta when GM's started porting everyone to the same keep to get an insanely massive battle going.
There are constantly battles going on that involve at least 100-200 people... and these battles I would almost consider small for ESO. A 100-200 person battle in DF:UW means there is 5 second input delay on all actions for every player in the tile...and that is if the server doesn't just crash.
Doesn't it bother you that there is phasing, no pvp collision detection, no friendly fire and no physics to arrow trajectory? Or the fact that you are playing in an instance. A big instance mind you. Those are just the pvp problems I see with that game. How is the pvp playing out? Are big zergs just trading keeps like GW2? Curious to know.
Umm, to each his own I guess but I don't understand how you can say that DFUW's combat is shit compared to DFO's and then go play ESO.
It doesn't bother me at all because the combat is very fun in its own way. I'm not "ruined" on other types of games after playing Darkfall. For awhile I was, but it's been so long that I'm over it.
I haven't enjoyed an MMO this much since Darkfall.
The PvP "instance" doesn't matter. The map is gigantic. It probably takes a comparable amount of time to cross the PvP "instance" in ESO as it does to cross center Agon in DF:UW.
Yes there are big zergs that roam around, but rarely do the zergs accomplish anything. Keep flipping doesn't really happen like it does in GW2 because the keeps are so far apart and you can prevent people from respawning at them. What our group will often do is go to the "next" keep of the keep our zerg is attacking. The 10 of us can cut off reinforcements by taking our resources or camping the travel paths. There are a lot of anti-zerg designs in the map, where 10 people like us can easily hold off 100+ with skill and coordination. There's a video of our team winning a 15 vs. ~120 because we used terrain and coordinated. It's honestly a blast.
All that being said, it isn't FPS combat like DF:UW. If you can't get over that...you won't enjoy it. But frankly, our guild is ~60 ex Darkfall players and we're all having a blast.
