What is new/different/exciting/better about ArcheAge?

syntax42syntax42 Member UncommonPosts: 1,385

I have seen a lot of hype for this game.  I watched a YouTube video of a guy playing on a Russian server.  The game looked like the standard quest-grind.

What is it that makes ArcheAge so special?  Is it doing anything new, different, exciting, or better than other MMOs?  Why should I pay attention to this game's development?

Yeah, all I ever see people stream is questing and grinding...

Go and do your research. Read reviews, go to the official AA site and the AAsource site as well. Plenty of VERY detailed of every single part of the AA experience is on youtube.

For me personally, I totally do NOT regret paying $150 that includes 3 month of a Patron Premium subscription and 11k credits etc. the game is FUN, the spells are awesome and I'm really enjoying it!

Heck, their is a justice system where if you commit crime, you are convicted by a JURY of your peers! They can sentence you to jail!!

The mounts you don't pay for, you can get one at around level 5 or so in a mount quest! The mounts start out as babies until you keep playing and feeding them. So fun!

There are pirates and Sea battles in boats. There are even cars! Guilds can have castles that they build themselves.

The crafting and professions look excellent. I look forward to exploring more of AA

So I've been working on a series of blog posts giving basic overviews of different MMOs as I search for a new one to call home - and I think I've found a home in ArcheAge. I'll link my AA post below, because it quickly covers a whole lot of the game's features (with some opinion thrown in). If you're looking to get a lot of information really fast, this will be a good read for you.

    The post.

After playing alpha nothing is new or exciting to me personally but its a good solid game for anyone who has never had the chance to play with sandbox features. I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't been exposed to what could be a glimpse into more sandbox play later on. For die hard sandbox players though it delivers nothing for me in the longterm. Other games just do it better for me that would be EVE. Good luck everyone hope you enjoy it

Thanks.  That is what I was looking for.  It seems the game is a casual sandbox or themepark-sandbox hybrid.  The lack of strict classes is a plus for me.

Does the game have unrestricted PvP?  I'm not a fan of being ganked.  I don't mind certain zones being designated for PvP, but I don't like being forced to subject myself to PvP just to advance in PvE.

Does the game have player looting?  That would be a deal-breaker for me.

Only the open sea and some selected areas in the two south continents  are open PVP dont worry. It is though the fastest way to progress so do partake in it when you can.

I have watched some live stream from devs at Trion talking about some of the systems.

The game has unrestricted PvP in much of the water and on one of the continents. There is a castle raiding system where the ability to raid a castle goes up for auction and if won...the guild that won has x amount of time to lay siege and possibly take over the castle and it's power source. The game does have player looting, but you don't actually loot the player.....instead you gain some items or rewards similar to if you looted player items.

From everything I have watched and read, you do not have to PvP at all if that is your choice. However, PvP is a large part of the game and there are focal points that make PvP not only interesting, but fun. There are also things in the game like piracy and larceny which kind of reward a person for being bad. You could spend the whole game killing creatures or crafting if you wanted, Or you could try to build a house and garden and raise some livestock. Perhaps go treasure hunting at the bottom of the sea. Maybe the dungeons are more your speed.

I think the main point of this game is to kind of be what you want and explore different classes and crafts and places and have a good time.

    Edit....extended......

You eventually will have several portal locations in a book you can recall to, so if you really wanted to dodge much of the PvP it would probably be possible.

I predict this pvp will be unbalanced as hell, #1 because Trion is involved and Rift was always an balance nightmare, #2 because there are 120 different class combinations.....around the same as Rift.

There's nothing to be excited about AA anymore.

It was brought up as a massive PvP sandbox but toned down into a regular themepark game.

Really odd choice from the developers imho.

Speak for yourself. I rarely EVER do PVP and recently did PVP for the first in years in the WS beta. I'm very glad it's not a pvp sandbox anymore.

I will be crafting and gardening as well which appeals to me

this week's live stream was  really fun, even though it was about gliders :P  i'l just fly through weeeee.

besides, i'm not going to over think, let pvp be what it is or how it is,  i've played f2p games with horrifying  unbalanced pvp and they still turn out fun. And i guess pvp is not the only thing working for this game, plenty of other  stuff.

looking forward to being  in an anti piracy guild and providing protection to ppl, who'd pay xd blah blah you get the picture.

And lastly , since its f2p, i'l just try for myself what its good for an what its not, since  i don't have to buy/ have pre-purchase decision deliema askfjghlakjfhadf asd madness, which i ahd to go through before getting ffxiv, Gw2, eso and now wildstar :P

The game is very boring and stale once you get to lvl 50 you will soon realize that those 120 class builds- only about 3 are viable in the game.

They do give alot of choices but alot of skills are just not good enough for pve/pvp.

You will see alot of people running with the same skills around . Just watch the FOTM builds in teh Forum.

Besides pvp- wich is very weak and unbalanced (go ranged or die)- the pve isnt good either.

Sure, you will like it in the beginning but in the end, its just another korean crapfest.

Stealth + Melee + Stun = Dead Caster Cloth has no melee resists.

There are more than three Viable builds, this game gives you the freedom to make a build/class that you want to play.

It has been a long time since I have had a game that time gets away from me.

Having a blast sorry you did not like the game.

As far as the 50 statement I have 2 level 50 on the Russian server and were playing them till I put my 150 down yesterday.

    1-30 lvl Zones are PvE.

30-50 lvl Zones are Gank, Gank, Gank.

You, of course, can hide in your PvE zones, but end game is in PvP Zones. If you don't like to PvP this game isn't for you.

Yup. The game is referred to as a PvP title by the developers, and a lot of the 1.0 patch people are referring to wasn't kept for the NA release. The game is still very much a PvP sandbox. That's the core of its design; it's not going anywhere.

Hmm back on topic....  Seriously guys he did not ask specific hate points on the PvP.

    1. Multiple player mounts... give yer friend a ride !

    2. Early game flight... Gliders are a blast !

    3. Massive naval warfare battles... Ship to Ship combat along with boarding parties.

    4. Huge underwater environment... Some hate this others look for it.

    5. Aeronautical Gigantor Blimp battles... Not sure when this will be avail in NA but its there and its coming.

    6. One of the better crafting environments since Vanguard.

    7. Housing with a purpose... not since SWG have we had this kind of useful and almost needed housing... housing is also not instanced.

    8. F2P with option for subscription... Not only will this be F2P but its a F2P title run by Trion one of the better F2P systems on the market... Of course this is also a huge detraction for other's, to me its great.

    9. Massive skill/class combinations... someone said 120 possible.

    10. Player driven economy... Crafted items are the SHIT in this game, not some crap knockoff garbage where the drops you get are the only worthwhile items.

    11. Massive PvP and siege warfare... I dunno what else to say, this is what i look for in my PvP playtime.

Anywho that's what i have discovered and know about this game, hope it helps you OP.

    Lolipops !

Trion making a pvp game, this is going to be hilarious.

ArcheAge takes tab target combat to the next level.  Also the exclamation points they use for quest markers are shaped in a different way too.

Seriously when I first saw Archeage it reminded me of Aion.  I'm over the ! over peoples heads and the text sitting on top of every npcs/players head.

"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
