Is this Trion's Last Chance?

ShephardShephard Member Posts: 69

After the widely known failures of Rift: Storm Legion, End of Nations, Defiance and even Trove.  Is this Trion's last chance as a publisher/developer?  It seems like they are going all out with this game and if this doesn't make it for them, this could be it for them.

What are your thoughts, can they afford another failure?  Especially considering AA failed very badly in Korea.

In what way, shape, or form, of any kind, did ANY of those games fail??

Just because you thought things were bad in them?

All them games are still going strong lol.

    The Deep Web is sca-ry.

Is Korea some sort of benchmark for mmo's now?

As far as I remember if Koreans dont like a title, odds are that 99% of the remaining mmo community will dig that game.

Ignore the other two games I mentioned for a second, are you going to sit here and argue that Defiance and End of Nations were not "failures" for Trion?

I log in and play Rift a couple times a week still a patron there.

They seem to be doing just fine still.

Trove I would not play that game, got into Alpha and do not get why anyone plays those types of games.  I do not wish the game fails just because it is not my cup of tea.

Never tried End of Nations or Defiance, but if people like them more power to them not gonna go bash their game.

I never heard Trion was in trouble though for all I know they might be, I can tell you they got a Wad of cash in the last couple days.

This is what I thought when I read the OP as well.

Rift didn't get the credit it deserved, mostly because it released in the shadow of another release.  I still log on once in a while and play a few hours just to do some dungeons or Rifts.

End of nations was never actually made so it can't really fail. I'm sure they lost a lot of money developing a game they didn't publish.

Defiance sold a lot of copies even if most people quit after the first month. Does anyone really know how much they made vrs how much they spent ? It wasn't a good game imo but I couldn't say it failed.

Rift was clearly a success for them. It's not a wow killer ( lol ) but it has a loyal following and active player base. Trying to attach fail to this is just silly.

Defiance has developed into a bit of a cult following. passionate players at odds with a developer that hasn't tried to meet any expectations or apply much effort into expansion or fixes... yet still new players roll in every day. for me, on the outset of playing defiance since launch and loving it I feel no distaste for the game. I am just very sceptical about Trion and anything it touches now.

The company has been stringing itself along on Rift lockboxes after they almost crash landed. The same will happen to AA after 6-12 month and the whales will keep Trion afloat.

    That is dead-on accurate.

You will be ridiculed, but the forums need more like you.

Huh?  Rift released all by itself.

It sold over a million copies its first few months.  But its retention was putrid and could not hold enough subscribers to stay a subscription game.

Its not a complete failure but its certainly been a disappointment.

And yes, people will say the servers are active because they are.  But thats because they closed 80% of them to make it that way, and no thats not common for games over their first 2 years.  I think the population has stabilized more or less and its at a fairly healthy state now, but its not a large population by any stretch.

Defiance was unquestionably a failure.  i find it hard that anyone would argue otherwise.

End of Nations was an awful business decision-the game itself wasnt Trion's but they made a mistake buying it.

Trove isnt even released yet and Im not sure it can really fail, its not like its meant to be a serious player in the MMO space.   Its a quirky low budget game with a small dev staff that some people will enjoy.

I would be very curious to see what kind of state Trion is in financially.  Rift's income stream is probably steady enough to keep them afloat, but i think Trove is about the limit of their developing budget these days.  Wonder if those canadian teachers got their pension money back yet.

SOE has blown a few titles they still manage to put asses in seats, Trion will be fine but i am not optimistic about Archeage ( as a game i would wan't to play ), but then again this founders pack stuff ( charging that much up front etc. )  makes me question how much confidence they have in Archeage.

Please explain to me why Rift, End of Nations, Defiance, and Trove are failures. Keep in mind I want facts not your opinion.

"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

If products continue to return profit, why does it failure?

This thread comes off as kind of baiting without anything in the OP being substantiated and the sensational title.
