I keep getting freezes every mins. My computer specs are pretty good and are at the top end of all computers on the steam test right now. I would close my launcher and awesomeium down in order to fix this, but just the other day I have been getting these freezes without those two things running. It pauses the entire game even if I'm mid air in a jump and then resumes as if nothing happened after 3 full seconds.
I did a full reinstall last night to see if I can fix this, but somewhere in windows 8, its getting pretty annoying. Anyone else seeing this happen?

Hmmm, what do windows logs say?
It could of course be the game, windows 8 in itself (yeah, I don't like it) or some issue on your computer.
I guess it is the only game that is happening in? You have tried updating your GFX drivers to the latest?
There are several hardware things like a broken byte in any memory or an overheating GFX card or CPU that could cause the problem.
Most likely however is that the game have some kind of issue with one of your drivers, it happens at times in new games. It is very hard to get all possibly hardware drivers to work perfectly in a game.
Update as many drivers as you can, that never hurts (as long as you install the right ones of course).
First thing to do - a full reinstall of Windows 7.
That is however a pretty expensive thing to do if OP doesn't own a copy... I would still do it myself though but then again, I would never have built a system with W8 from the start.
First thing to do is really getting the latest GFX driver no matter what. It is the single most common performance issue for a newly released game.
Yeah, clearly is this not something that happens on all W8 machines, or we would have heard a lot more about it.
Then again, you are probably not using the exact same hardware and driver configuration as OP have so it still doesn't tell us much.
It might just be something so simple that the game runs his GFX card too hot and a fan or lowering the graphics could fix it, or that he uses the same old GFX driver he got with his GFX card while the game is optimized for the latest driver.
No. There is almost no difference as far as gaming is concerned., that would be a waste of time and money.
Its on a ThinkCentre 3.2g dual core amd, with 460 SE v2 NVidia card. It happened even on the very lowest graphic setting, I did that test in beta, to see if it was graphic related, and it wasn't.
Like I said though I would close the launcher and shut down Awesomeium.exe and it would not do that at all in game. but now it does it without those being open so that's why I'm wondering if its something with Windows 8 having a conflict with ESO somewhere.
Windows logs all freezes and crashes.. What does the log say?
I doubt it is a hardware thing here unless the game overheats your GFX card... But that isn't very likely since it happens so fast.
Your laptop is a whole different hardware profile. The chance it's related to your windows version is extremely small.
Ive usually ran only ESO after resintalling windows 8 every single time, so if its not windows 8 or ESO, then what would that leave? What would conflict with the launcher and awesomium.exe causing this 3 second freeze?
The card and CPU shouldn't be a problem then, they are common enough. And scratch overheating as well.
You do have the new drivers, right? Otherwise just get them from Nvidia.com.
If you do I fear that it is the game itself that is the problem with a optmization issue.
You tried closing your firewall, right? It could actually make the problem as well.
Never thought to check the event log, but I'll see what happens after ESO is reinstalled fully, its downloading again right now.
I have to do this every time I log in. It has fixed my freezes ups as you described.
Load into the game.
Alt tab.
Ctrl alt dlt
Open proccesses
find eso.exe and right click it
set priority to high.
I'll try that also, never thought of firewall blocking the game at all. But maybe the launcher and awesomeium.exe does back door updating that needs the firewall access?
Freezing for a few seconds is not normal. I doubt it has anything to do with Windows 8. Try leaving your Windows resource monitor open so you can see what program is accessing your drive or loading your CPU during the freezes. I suspect you may have malware, or your anti-virus is interfering with the game.
You may need to run the game in borderless windowed mode to be able to alt-tab to the resource monitor quickly.
Yeah I've done that already, looking at the processes, even went as far as shutting down every single service not required. Was still a no go on that. Which is why I just reinstalled windows 8 over again.
When you say freeze, do you mean full system lock or the game client stops moving, but you're still able to alt+tab, etc?
Landmark consistently crashed after I updated my nvidia drivers to the latest (nonbeta) version. Reverting to the last version completely fixed it. Have you tried rolling your drivers back?
MMOs sometimes use several ports, a buddy didn't get GW2s AH to work until he on my advice turned off his firewall to try and then gave it trusted status. It might be that both the launcher and the awesomeium.exe need to be set as trusted.
But turning the firewall off to see if it has any impact is the easiest quickfix, just remember to turn it on again and add the files as trusted if it works.
I am not sure if this is the case here but it is easy enough to test, firewalls are very common with messing up for us MMO players.
Its not a crash freeze, for example, when I jump off of a building and in mid air my character will hang there for three seconds and then after the three seconds it will suddenly finish its jump as normal, its like there is no data being sent to the client at all, cant move around cant move the cursor or anything it just sits there like that, I cant use windows button or alt tab during that time period also.
Windows 8 already installs my drivers for me from NVidia when I do the update after installing windows 8. If I download drivers from nivdia it will have two of the same drivers running at the same time so I have always just stuck with the ones that windows has downloaded with the first update after install which is the most current ones for my video card anyways.
I got a feeling about this, but that would mean that the Launcher and Awesomeium.exe are taking top priority over the game, and if its happening still when I have launcher and awesomeium.exe down, it means there is other hidden process that are taking priority over my game... but shouldn't my 3.2g dual core processor be able to handle that, my single core on my laptop can.
My computer is set to have best preformace for Progarams and not background services so the priority must be messed up somehow if this is working for you.
I also have both task folders empty so no tasks are running at the time this happens either.
Yeah, the dual core should be enough for that. It might not be optimal but with the current speed I seriously doubt that is the problem here.
I also doubt it is the driver, if the firewall isn't the problem, then submit a report to Zenimax since it probably is on their side then and is something they should know about.
