Alpha player sentenced to 770 minutes in jail

DSWBeefDSWBeef Member UncommonPosts: 789
So just a short time ago an alpha player with (I think) over 100 charges was sentanced to 770 minutes in jail that's slightly under 13 hours. Trial chat exploded when the verdict was read. It was rather hilarious .

Playing: FFXIV, DnL, and World of Warships
Waiting on: Ashes of Creation

How does this even work? If you've done the crimes or such, do you have to be arrested/captured? And can you fight to avoid being jailed? :o

Little things like this are brilliant. Might have to venture outside for a few hours fof his crimes. Heh

I don't play myself, but Itmejp from the greenspeak podcast said you can attempt to escape jail, not sure how this works though.

When you get killed by a player, you are sent to Court, with 5 Judges, which determine your faite.

The thing about sentence, 770 minutes - you must be ingame for it to tick off. If you log off the time stops, and resumes once you log in again.

When you are serving time, you can escape the jail, by digging your self out. But during Whole sentence periode, even if you escape, you can not use any skills or do crafting.

But you can play football in jail, with your inmates. :D

so what kind of discussion was going on in the chat? postitive or the normal "I can do what ever I want since I bought the game" entitlement shit?

You don't have to go in front of jury and get the max sentence. You can just go straight to jail and get a minimal sentence. Jury is just for rping purposes.

So if a player gets killed, then they get punished again, and not the player that performed the killing?

Hmm, this actually sounds really fun. :)

A MMO where actions like this actually have consequences do have a lot of potential. This game just moved up a few spots on my list.

That's good to hear, I believe that this kind of system is just good for the game, you do something bad and get caught = you get punished.

Theres a special Trial chat channel where the defendant and jurors are able to communicate. Everyone else is also able to speak in this chat. Havent decided if this is a good thing or a bad thing yet. Right now most trials seem to end in the guilty verdict. From what ive seen its about 70% guilty and 30% innocent. Its an awesome feature but one that is really tough to regulate.

People have to eat, sleep, shower etc...

The common tactic is too simply wait until you'd usually log off, ie when you go to eat, sleep, shower and just get yourself killed and then leave your computer on.

Great system on paper but as more people get used to it the less of an impact it will actually have sadly.

Not really... Going to jail doesn't mean your criminal points are gone. You keep them and you have to work them off (if you want to). I've read somewhere that you can do some chorus in jail to lower the criminal points. Since I never have been to jail (yet) I can't comment on it. But I'm sure that when I start to PvP I will get there (100+ CP already) and honestly, I really want to get there, even if it's only for the experience and learn what's in there ;)

I beg to differ.  This does not sound as a real deterrent but just an rp or fun game mechanic.  People have multiple infractions it seems and others look forward to experiencing it. Griefing other players will be rampant it seems via killing/stealing.   Any meaningful penalty would invovle game bans invovling weeks at a time or huge exp/gold fines.

As a PvE oriented player it seems griefing will be rampant.

This is really funny, but isn't it bypassable my making another character? Sinc eit's F2P, can't players just make an alt, level it, or even if it's account bound, make another account?

Also, i've been wondering about pk and jail. While there are war times and "non pvp zones", when can players pk members of their own faction? And can members of the pirate faction pk anywhere?

    I came across this screenshot.

Jurors can view his criminal activity and then choose the verdict. The amount of time which is possible to sentence a criminal is pre-set by the game and his criminal points.

    Here's the picture.

Well, this is the kind of feature that would make me head straight for the uninstall button.. and probably totally avoid the install button altogether. Not that I think it would ever affect me.. but if it did in some way it would just be annoying. Depends what is considered a crime I suppose...
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

From what i understand if a player continues to exhibit bad behavior and keeps goin to jail they will be barded from major cities and the like. Guards with kill that player on site if they atempt to enter cities. Meaning they will become outlaws. Now they could band together with other outlaws and atk cities and things like that. a true pirate life =)

I however dont know if this is still a feature of AA. If someone can confirm this i would appreciate it.

Sound interesting at first but 14mins for 15 charges including 2 murder-charges is a bad joke. Even the 770 minutes is way too low for the amount  of charges. In addition its always possible to just afk or use a different character.

Harsher punishments and some system that prevents simple afk'ing or switching chras is needed.

I really do think it is just a little bit of fun really and Unless your a serious griefer / ganker of lower level players etc , its not really going to affect you and even if it did the sentences are usually only minutes , and you can also escape too if you really want too , I was on a Jury last night and it really is just a bit of fun.

Its also funny when you see an escaped prisoner out in the world with their prison stripes.

So you maybe overreacting just a little.

You do not want to go in there....there are men, big men....and don't drop the soap....

I just got to get on those juries.
