No, it's more UO + generic Asian themepark.  Some of the themepark can be more fun because it has more dynamic gameplay outside of combat.

It is the most accurate comparison I can think of.

AA is totally open PvP (only until lvl 30 you are in non PvP areas). Even if you plan to live as a PvE'r/crafter, you are forced to go to PvP areas where your own faction can attack you. The penalty for dying is none... except if you are carrying trade goods which you will lose and, for an extension, the time and gold you have invested in crafting them. So, no risk for attackers/pirates and all the risk for crafters/traders. You know what to expect: lots of zerg packs everytime and very few (and very enjoyable) group/guild battles. If you like being part of zerg packs and rape people in non-equal battles, AA it is for you. If you do not enjoy that, you need to find a guild which organizes stuff: battles, RP events, etc.

Most of the housing is instanced?! I hope you're a troll because everyone knows there's no instancing in this game. I don't even think they have instanced dungeons or anything like that.

Housing it is not instanced, but you cannot put your houses or farms whenever you want. You can build only in delimited areas. This is good, and bad too.

Dungeons are instanced (at least the 2 low lelvel I have visited).

A lot of it reminds me of SWG at launch except it runs smoother than SWG did and even the Alpha is pretty much bug free. I also see some of early LoTRO at times.

Little things like sitting in chairs, laying in beds etc help a lot and I just discovered the water has currents. I attempted to swim across a river just up stream of a waterfall and it washed me over.  I am just hit lvl 15 and I do not regret buying into the Alpha at all. Still have not experienced the PvP yet. Lots of good things in this game

    I miss DAoC

It definitely has lots f good things. All the environmental flavour you have mentioned and more is awesome: the house/farm, open world bosses. Best I can remember in mmo.

Only downside I see from that point of view is that to own a house/farm you need to be a Patron. it is not clear how it will work but besisdes paying with real money a subscription, I think that there will be also an option to buy patronage with in-game currency. Family/Guild can also let you to use their house/farm for free but I am not sure to what extension.

If this is true, I could see a lot of old SWG players finding a new home in ArcheAge when it releases in NA.

    Thoughts?

No, not at all and the biggest reason is the caustic community.

While SWG had loads of PvP, on my server(s) at least it was rarely anything but a good time. I am not sure if the times have just changed or what, but back then I never got hate mail or any other BS for PvPing. Nor did I get camped or greifed, it was genuinely fun.

Now however, in AA it's pretty much Eve in a fantasy setting. I really wish they would go back to eve, or wherever they came from but the over all feeling I get is that the community is very immature and quite a few of them are focused more on ruining other people's game. Much like most of eve, from my experience.

I am not too worried about it, some people like these games (again as eve players can attest too) and enjoy treating each other as such. I do not find it fun, and can oly put up with it in small doses.

No, I think the spiritual successor to SWG, or the closest we will get is The Repopulation. I completely disregard any bullshit that comes out of SOE's collective mouths as they are pretty much full of shit. I am not sure they know what a soul or spirit is, unless there is a price tag attached to it.

TL/DR: No, that would be The Repopulation.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

Ha! You never played the original SWG then. That was the chief complaint among all the whiners: SWG is way to complex and the learning curve is too steep. The they changed it and made it way too simple, which is obviously the version you played.

SWG (Pre-CU) and AA have about nothing in common.
