Can some one with end game knowledge answer this?

I've heard that the Northern continent is all PvP and is the best place for harvesting.  Can some one PLEASE answer:

 

Are there resources that only spawn there?

does staking a land claim there and defending it cost money? 

does staking a land claim there and defending it earn money or have any tangible benefit besides bragging rights?

Do castles built there automatically gather resources for you in any way?

Why is it better to own a castle there than just day tripping in, harvesting, and then leaving?

If gear is never lost on death and never destroyed, isn't there a finite amount of resources a player needs to "Max" out his gear?

Once I have a character with all maxed gear, my own house, my own boat, and my own castle, what point is there to having access to more resources?

My ultimate question is, Is it profitable to control land in the Northern continent, and will that profit always have some place to go?

 

 

 

 

I hate EVE because of T2 BPOs, but EVE has all this.  I'm hoping to replace EVE with AA if there are good answers to these questions.
