It looks nice the combat is not too bad but the questing is pretty forgettable.
I'm hoping it will improve. But so far it feels average.
The pvp starts ramping up after 30. You can avoid it if you are careful but it but the 30-50 zones on your continent go in and out of war states over time. So before you hit 30 find yourself a good guild to run with. This game will be somewhat unforgiving towards loaners.

If you are playing quests only, you're doing it wrong, IMO. Go enjoy the world, do quests once in a while.

That's because you are playing it as an A-Z hold your hand questing themepark. ArcheAge is for explorers, crafters and pvpers.
Go explore, go craft, go farm, go underseas exploring for treasure, go rowboating in search of far off islands and locations, get yourself your glider and go sight seeing, get yourself a fishing boat and go deep water fishing. I honestly just have fun running around trying to find spots that grant you Nui tears for exploring, and gathering up resources to sell and make into things.
If you just want a quester then go play ESO, FFXIV or wait for Wildstar

I have to wait for release because I can't afford $150 right now.

Go sighteeing, you know what I did a few nights ago? Find every small lake, pond, stream, high peak, mountain in my area and try to swim, climb and explore everything in search of Nui coins. I even rowboated down a lake that led into three streams with waterfalls and yes I rowboated down the waterfalls too. I even got Nui coins at the start of that excursion by finding that hidden lake.
Get off the quest trail! Alot of you younger folk don't remember when mmos were about exploration!

Sound advice. I often find myself feeling "compelled" to complete every single glowing question mark I come across. It's nothing more than a laundry list tbh.
"What if I miss a cool item?" Nagging at the back of my mind.

Then remember that all the best items in the game are crafted and EVERY quest item reward is simply a placeholder for crafted items. So the time you are spending questing, you could instead be crafting superior items which by the way grant XP when crafted.

The quests I'm doing explain the world and its mechanics to me. Now I know what the players with the big bulky packs were doing.
Was just introduced to farming so now I'm going to look for a spot to plant stuff to grow which I need for a quest.
I am very cautious when it comes to purchasing MMO's as I have played so many over the years and many just don't live up to my expectations. I have had Star Citizen on my radar for sometime but have been wanting a decent Fantasy MMO where I can explore and the world feels alive.
Within a half hour of playing this game, there were so many little things that I was impressed with. Climbing Trees, running off the beaten path to find fish, seeing someone riding a cow who takes a dumping the road and I smell it and pass out. I see two npc's drinking and I drink from the barrel and pass out lol. I can turn lamps on and off sit down on chairs and make the candle go out and turn back on. No instancing.....
I know this is all run-on and rambling but it is the little things like this that gives this game character.
Ok ramble off. Enjoying this game and hopefully my friends will as well.
First off, I almost shit when I realized I could spawn my row boat in almost any body of water in the game, including little ponds and even moats. Messing around today, I got totally side tracked by dropping my boat in a small river. Found out the rivers have currents, and not only push your boat, but you when you are swimming. Went off of a couple small waterfalls where I was certain the game wouldn't let me, but it did. |
Followed the river for a while, sightseeing, and ended up in the ocean where I saw some other people paddling out way off into the distance towards islands. I jumped off the boat into the water to look around, and noticed my character was bobbing up and down with the waves in the ocean. Did a little free diving / swimming and wanted to come share this little experience here.
As I said in another post, it's the little things in this game that really make me smile. So many times I've tried little things that you *CAN'T* do in any Western mmo, and I was able to do it in AA. My little boating experience was just one of those. Now I'm in the process of gathering crafting materials for fishing gear.
Game looks very interesting and there are a lot of threads which confirm so. I will probably wait a little and buy a Founder Pack with beta access. I confess that I'm still skeptical with the purchace because of a pre order I made (to regret) with a recent MMO...
I do the quests as they are simply there to give you an understanding of the game. The $150 dollars was well worth it seeing how i'm getting so much of that money back when the game launches. I had to kill my goose today for a quest. I had bought it several days ago by accident and was just feeding it every day for its feathers, but when I got the quest needing goose meat i was so sad T.T especially since your toon hides the knife behind their back, totally adding to the slaughter. I definately gonna build a better glider, the experimental glider's flight duration sucks lol, I feel to my death when the glide timer ran out lol.

Yeah, and the skill used when butchering your goose "Needless butchering" along with that huge meataxe behind your back. It's just awesome!

One of the things that I thought was awesome is that the boats come equipped with deep sea diving apparatus on board when you craft one ! as you say its these little thing that help make a great Mmo.
As for me I spent hours last night doing trade runs to get my Donkey
Yup the last time i felt the joy of a vast open world mmo was the day i born in Telon..aka Vanguard. It just goes to show how lack the devs of ESO have been in the design of that game. The features in AA make ESO look third rate and quite frankly dated.
Climbing trees, gliding, boat building, farming, animal raising, trade routes, pirate island, sailing, housing, justice system and it goes on.
Seems to me that all the innovation is coming from the east with Black Desert and Bless to name just two.
Right now only SOE is flying the flag for western mmo or trying to.
ZeniMax had a chance and they have blown it, ESO could of been so much more.
Originally posted by DeaconX I know you get extra points for your stats with the top tier purchase - is this pretty negligible or do stats seem to actually matter, even if just a few points?
In the beginning of the game it does matter. The +3 is quite a lot then. Right now I'm a level 21 magic user with over 80 INT. That +3 doesn't really matter on those levels. I think around level 10 that +3 was already close to worthless (but at least you have a nice cloak )
Hey question for you...your a magic user. Do you have any problems dealing damage. Reason I ask, I picked I want to call it witchcraft as well as I think necromancy and I forgot the other one. My spells just don't seem to sink up just right. I'm level 16 atm and Just don't feel the synergy between my choices. I know it's something I'm doing wrong personally just not sure which talent trees to change around.
Also I was thinking of going melee and forgoing the magic atm. The only reason I'm even attempting magic is I wanted to be able to summon that one pet for like 90 seconds lol at what level 50.
