Hah!  Hey Weekend at Bernie's is a classic though!  I loved that movie.  But yeh, I get what you are saying.

Sadly, I think the Elder Scrolls moniker, especially in the wake of Skyrim, hurt this game before it was even released.  Reactions to some of the early screenshots were resoundingly negative, and random quotes from the dev team on WoW comparisons, and a statement of "if the World of Warcraft model isn't broken, why fix it?" didn't do ESO any favors at all.

I am speculating here, but I think because of the backlash to these early glimpses of the game's graphic quality in comparison to Skyrim, and to the dev team's early philosophy of sticking to the tired ol' "tried and true", they may have had to go back to the drawing board and readjust some of this game to resemble Skyrim more closely, at least in some aspects.  This is probably why, and again, I am just speculating here, that ESO currently feels like an early beta as opposed to a fully fleshed out "release" build.

I have mixed feelings about the game.  I definitely DON'T hate it-- but I DO feel like there are some glaring issues that need to be resolved.  I knew that I was still in my "honeymoon" phase when I first started playing Early Access, but the honeymoon is over.  I'm really expecting to see more of an effort to resolve issues in a timely manner, and less expense and effort handed over to the "fluff" , such as those spectacular CGI cinematics.  Granted, they are breathtaking, but I'd rather know more effort (and budget) is going toward improving the content.

    Money Grab Plan Achieved!

Without the Elder Scrolls (connection, they would not have sold so many copies.

There were multiple beta weekends for people to participate in. There were also a ton of streams and all kinds of info on the game and even the issues that people were having in the beta. So no money grab In my opinion, people can only blame others for so long before they start taking responsibility as consumers and do some research. If you are told shown and given a chance to experience something how is it a money grab or how have you been hoodwinked if you purchase it just because of the IP?
You are entitled to you opinion, of course. I disagree.

What percentage of the tens of millions of players do you think actually sought information, got into betas, or watched videos? A very small percentage even visit message boards. A huge percentage may watch YouTube, but they are seeking cute cat videos.

There were about 20-50 posters here at MMORPG.com following and discussing it regularly. There may have been more lurking, but even here, out of the over 2.5 million members, a minute percentage showed interest.

Ask yourself, first and foremost, "Why did make an ES:O MMO instead of a new IP based off of DAoC mechanics?" There is one reason, and one reason only, in my mind: Cash in on the IP.

Then they "sell" players the 10th (previously unavailable) race, Imperials, in a Collector's Edition. This in a fully priced, subscription based MMO.

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. I will disagree.

    We will disagree then.

This is an Elder Scrolls game in MMO form, regardless of weather it's a good one in some peoples opinion or a bad one in others. Therefore in my opinion it's not a money grab use of the IP.

    Yes, we will disagree.

Also are you arguing that it's not a consumers job to be informed about their purchases lol?

It IS the consumer's responsibility. "Expecting" them to take on that responsibility is another matter, entirely.

What are the terms of your credit card? Will they up your rates you if you make a late house payment? Many do. Few people read their contracts, though. Rarely do they read what they are signing. What are the Terms of Service of your favorite MMO?

Remember, these are the same people that run to their Governments and yell, "HELP ME! The evil corporations are ripping me off!" Well, had they read their contract and NOT signed it, problem solved.

Call me cynical, but I see this behavior too often to have faith in the average consumer.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I don't think the problem really lies in the ip name.

While its not the best game ever, TESO is a respectable one but the real problem is the game doesn't really evolve until late.

I was in the same boat, thinking the game appart from some interessting quest was way too repetitive, the dungeons were too small and straight forward and basically the game didn't offer much variety.

That was until i reached approximatively 3 played days at around level 30, 35 the game open up a bit more, dungeons start to get more interessting, and even quests get more personnal choice, tbh even the atmosphere get darker and more mature.

tho shall the game be praised ? probably not, but its still fun, the quests are kind of immersive, and the combat / skill system is refreshing. I do think there isn't enough variety of things to do, but what TESO do it do well.

I do think the game doesn't deserve all those bashes

They should have gone for Dark Age of Camelot 2... its has a much stronger lore than ES and would make a far more interesting game... plus this game with 45 classes with this system would be just awesome.

Still love ESO tho... but DAoC is DAoC...

LMAo I asked the same question without the poll and I got a 7 day ban. I guess the poll fixes all.

If this game wasnt names ESO it would have been crucified by everyone. The one and only thing it has going for it is the name, and after today you will see wha that means.

I am curious to see what people who subbed wil say about the numbers. Hopefully a few neutral people will still be there to give some sort of truth and not the usual sunshine and rainbows of the rabid white knight fan boys.

So the only "neutral people" are the people, like yourself, who hate the game.  Anyone that hates a game has a valid opinion and anyone that likes a game is a lying fanboy?

In all honesty, no I wouldn't be playing it and I think this game would've tanked badly without the Elder Scrolls name. I enjoy it because of the Elder Scrolls lore and story, which I feel is very well done and as good as the single player games. The crafting is also well done. But without that, there isn't anything different enough to pay 15 a month for, I'd of passed and waited for EQNext.
