I also witnessed this being on the Pantheon FB page and can attest to its validity.

Ouch, that had to hurt the project. Sucks for the people involved, guess he just put another nail in his reputation.

Come on man, it's fucking Brad. Why do people keep putting their trust in him?

Just another con man in the sea of the depraved and unethical. The MMO drought is making people desperate, people are digging deep to get a good game out to market, only to be robbed in the end.

Here's how to pay it back:

    1. take out life insurance

    2. find a bridge and jump

No sympathy for shysters like this. not only did he screw over the people that donated their money but he screwed over the people that did the work and put trust in him, and now he wants people to work for free while he rides the fundraiser gravy train to $180,000.00/yr "salary"?  What a piece of sh**.

I don't know.  Go back to every post about this game where people are getting excited and I've said over and over again that he's not cut out for it.  Every project he "manages" falls apart.  I'm generally ignored though.

Salim Grant - Lead Developer for Pantheon before this ruckus was on K-TAM radio on the Aftermath Monday show and made this brief statement.

Should work if not the file can be listened to directly on our site.

Basically he says if anyone wants to know more about what went on they can contact him. He has documentation, all the e-mails between him and Brad as well.

The IRS might be interested, since it sounds like what he did was technically embezzlement.

But sadly the same pigeons he duped will flock once again to his call, I think it's high time a call was placed to the local prosecutors office.

I hope the devs put out by this didn't burn any bridges to come work on this project. Sad day for oldschool PVE'rs.

    From the games website:

NOTE: ANY MONEY PLEDGED WILL NOT BEING GOING TOWARDS DEVELOPMENT AT THIS TIME; INSTEAD IT WILL GO TOWARDS KEEPING THE WEBSITE UP AND RUNNING AND TO OTHER MAINTENANCE COSTS. WE WILL ADVISE YOU WHEN AND IF THIS CHANGES.

Other maintenance costs... yeah I guess weed and blow could be considered maintenance costs.

In defense of weed, 45k isn't a weed problem.

He's going to claim the $45k was used to keep the website up. LOL.

Brad: "Dude, we can still make it happen. You and me, man. Let's do this. Ask the Trustee of your Trust fund to bank roll me $500k and you will be the man behind the next WoW and I will be the man behind the man."

Trust Fund Baby: "Yea, dude. This sounds good man. I want to bank roll the next WoW. Trust Fund ain't my money anyway, it's my daddy, so know cares?? LOL.  I'll ask the Trustee to give me $500k. Well, you wouldn't know about using other people's money so it's probably not that funny of a joke"

Sad think (beside what he did) , is that all the donations which will come from now will go (quote): TOWARDS KEEPING THE WEBSITE UP AND RUNNING

Keeping a website up and running has zero/null "MAINTENANCE" costs. None!

Oh, if by MAINTENANCE costs he means that he needs to pay around  20-30$ per month for the shared-hosting (he does not need a dedicated server, and even if he needs it, he can get one for 50$) then this man can't get lower then this.

I mean, he can use his computer to host that website....

    C'MON!!!

Just a cheap legal maneuver, he's going to get dragged into court and use that excuse to prop up a defense.

You just can't make stuff like this up.

McQuaid's rep has now gone from the toilet to the sewer.

And he did it to himself.....

(Any bets on how much of that 45K in "medical expenses" was for dope and pills?)

I read somewhere he was going  to get the money back by selling some of his own stuff. I hope he does so but im quite unsure about Brad from now on.
  • itchmonitchmon Member RarePosts: 1,999

the guy from camelot unchained auctioned off 2 of his sports car collection to plop down a couple mil for his own project.

brad takes others' donations and loots them?

guess what?  devs who truly believe in their projects, and their fans, exist.  they just do not happen to be named Brad McQuaid.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Well to be fair medical is expensive in the US, and i can imagine that his insurance does not have the best coverage with his prior problems. So if he had money on the way in... or at least so he thought. It would not be out of reach to do what he did. It is still a douchebag thing to do but it is also common as dirt in smaller companies.

Now on the flip-side 148k is... well... nothing once you take in to account what it cost to run a studio. Those money would not have lasted him more then a few months. So without some serious outside funding the project was doomed any way. Even the devs knew it as they were talking about having a month or two more...

With that being said... I would not exactly call Brad the beacon of project management we all should follow, and i wonder why he seem to time upon time over estimate what can be done. That sort of attitude is ok if you are still in school or working with your own money. It is not a wise move to do when using others money.

This have been a good conversation
