150 dollar for alpha access which already been done?

CopperfieldCopperfield Member RarePosts: 654

this is some major marketing stunt if you ask me..

The game has been tested over over in other countries, yet they need to "test" it .. common..

All that trion has done to this game is adjust the strings in the client and or server...

Both korean and russian version tested . this is really a money crap by trion.. there simple no need to call it even alpha.. because its the same client as the beta..

Now if trion would have called it closed beta. with following open beta.. i would agree tho.. but calling it alpha common

Keep paying for this kinda stunts.. and game companies will do it even more and more..

P.S. Trion has no power to adjust the game it is just a publisher.. all the patches and upcoming content for this game are in hands of  XLgames.

Its more like a super Collectors Edition Preorder for early access. I personally know the difference between buying into Alpha and this.

I was fine with paying it because I wanted to play it now. They also give you a pretty good package if you like the game. It turns out to be a big gamble if you don't like it.

I've lost way more that $150 on a night of drinking or playing poker. I''m okay with it/

So, entire work you need on your back-end, infrastructure, client modifications to support translated content does not count?

Without appropriate knowledge on the matter, anything seems very simple. The hard part comes when you are actually supposed to do it.

Oh please , haven't we already had a thread whining about this ?, what's worse is OP actually made an account just to post this BS .  ... where are the mods when we need them. .. sigh

That  $150.00 looks real good to me!

AND, when open beta starts it will look even better to more of you.

It's NOT SWTOR, ESO or WS.

    ARCHEAGE

    Just remember that name.

    You'll see.......

Thats true, but why do you have to pay to test FOR them? should be the other way round.

People who've been dying to play this game for years, with proper translations (helps tons, really) ponied up early.
    On that note: you're welcome.
The F2P leeches screaming and kicking now are the same ones who, later down the road, will not support the game in any way.
If it were up to people like them, F2P titles would not exist. They're F2P because those who do support the game often end up going overboard.

    Quoted for truth.

And on the naming it alpha part.

The game has not been released yet here in EU/US. It's in pre-release state. No matter what you have learned alpha MUST mean, there can be different kind of alphas. Everyone who can read and can be bothered to research for 10 min knows this is not your standard alpha and that it's for localisation purposes. But it's still alpha and we call it alpha and will call it alpha, than beta, than release.

OP, I'm afraid you'll just have to deal with it.

    For 150$ you get:

    - alpha access,

    - 4 days of head start at release,

    - 3 months of "sub",

    - a bunch of items and some cash for f2p store.

No one forces you to test, no one forces you to play. You can wait and play it for free  at release if you think it's not worth.

    Um...gameplay.

    Very poor quest content.
    Mediocre/poor graphics.
    Generic world.
    Uninspiring combat system.
    Heavy RNG, tedious crafting.
    etc.

The game in it's core gameplay isn't even trying to be any different. Games like ArcheAge is what you could find on asian market 10 years ago.

Some people will like it, no issue with that, but there is no need to pretend it's something it isn't.

It is somewhat rich on features with more emphasis on crafting(no depth tho) but that is about all.

You do not have to, no one force you to buy an access into a pre-release version.

You don't like, you don't buy. Simple.

I was never into asian games so I do not know many of them but some titles like Knight Online or Archlord that are/were more established on western market should be sufficient examples.

There is a recent title Echo Online or something like that I randomly bumped into on youtube that demonstrate generic asian game very well.

You can't really really difference between ArcheAge and that game...

Those two games like Archeage? Not sure if trolling or serious.

    This.

And the fact that it wasn't $150 'for alpha', it was $150 for a whole raft of in game perks and subs. People need to get that into their head.

Plus, Trion have been awesome enough to make it that if you don't want to pay that you can just wait a little and play for free. How great are they??

I think you're misunderstanding something, Gdemami.

People aren't interested in AA because of the combat, questing or dungeons. Anyone's whos payed attention to even the Korean version and info bits knew those parts where generic.

Players seem interested in the open world housing (limited), farming that respondes to weather, mounts that are raised up and can even have a passanger, aqua farms (not sure if the it's in the game yet), obviously boats and ships, etc. The "open world" pvp is another part.

Wheter or not this will work out will depend, but very few mmorpgs that offer the variety of non combat related features that AA has. Also, i personally like the world design and geography of the world, from the videos i've seen.

Of course it's a financial decision, if you have a product you can do whatever you want with it.  There are no laws to state they can't do this, it works and is a great decision for many reasons.

If players are willing to buy access before everyone else why not do it?  The game will be free for everyone in a couple of months, have some patience or put up some money.

This is a silly complaint, it's not a stunt it's a financial decision.

    It wasn't a question.

I played those games and I played Archeage and I can tell you're being ignorant at best.

It's a $150 cash grab to take advantage of the insane blind hype gamers give to new MMO's before they come out. While the cash shop item's value may equal or exceed $150, the fact remains that F2P must pull stunts like this in order to recoup costs.

It's $150 B2P until beta (June). The game is not in Alpha, by the way - it's just to give gamers that "exclusive feel" they'll pay $150 for.

    I do understand that well.

Asians have very different approach to game production. They rather produce 3 games instead of 1 large budget title and why they like to open new servers with every new patch or event(Age of Wushu lol).

Archeage is no different in that regard and why the game is so generic. It won't do well in west, imo.

I played the game, I know how it is and I am just pointing out what some people might not want to see/know - ie. the graphics is mediocre at best, despite some pretty screenshots you can find on the web, the game does not look like that.

There is no need for illusions and people should be fully informed about the game, not just the nice stuff so they think twice.

People should check out the russian beta to make their own opinion and like the game for what it is, rather than their assumptions and hype.
