I just cant make up my mind. I know SWG and it is the best game i have ever played. But it has monthly payments and i hate that.
I know almost nothing about guild wars except that it has great PvP and it doesnt have monthly payments and it is rated best MMORPG
I was wondering if there is something else to do in guild Wars except for fighting and leveling. In SWG you can dance, make music, craft, train pets and more. But what has guild wars to offer?
So these are my two questions:
What option are there in Guild Wars?
Should I buy Guild Wars or SWG?

Damn i wrote a big reply yet when i pressed "post message" it didnt get posted and it showed me a different post. How hard is it to implement a real forum?
Anyway, i write some comments about what gw is and what is not in the "Am I the only one who thinks this game is not that great?" thread, page 7. What i am saying is that gw isnt a mmorpg, its a competitive online rpg(corpg). And as such it can not be compared or replace mmorpg. You cant compare unreal tournament 2004 with system shock, just cause they both have first person prespective. They are entirely different games.
Thats why gw "lacks" so many mmorpg features like marketplace, housing(although guild halls will evolve to that in a near xpac), pets, crafting, etc. Gw has an extremely basic crafting(non existant i would say), the only way you can dance is by typing "/dance" and your character starts dancing(but has no usage whatsoever) and only rangers get a pet. This isnt an mmorpg, this is a corpg.
Gw has a short pve duration(around 80 hours) and after that you will "only" have pvp and gvg(guild vs guild). And thats where gw shines. The entire battle system is well designed and the possible tactical and strategical options are unlimited.
If you want a game that will replace your real life in every possible way, stick with your mmorpg. If you want a game that requires skill, imagination, cooperation, discipline and organisation in order to get some competitive online experience get gw.
hmm how does GW require imagination?
anyway, hes right. these are two completely different games. should have made a post like this too before i bought GW, would have saved myself the dissapointment.
Thanks i made up my mind im going for SWG.
The new CU shouldnt be a problem for me. I used to request other peoples help to do missions i was unable to do anyway.
In the trial i became a good engineer, a rebel musician in an imperial town and i managed to get a Alliance Hero award. And all in 14 days
Guess ill just have to make some monthly payments. Better start finding a job
It requires imagination cause when you have all those possible combinations of skills in a group of 8 ppl, theorycrafting through logic isnt enough. The game mechanics and the sheer variety of skills and possible combinations is so big, that theorycrafting becomes complex and as such you need to start using your imagination more than your logic.
Also the lack of role playing features needs to be replaced by your imagination. I mean you dont earn anything by dancing(like in sw), so you need to use your imagination and pretend that you actually earn something
i would say get guild wars.
it's a refreshing change from the grind of MMOs, and the tedious running for an hour to find a bats wing or whatever and then another hour to bring it back to the guy.
but, if you actually do want an MMO, don't get SWG. it's a poor game. i would recommend World of Warcraft,. or if you would rather have a Sci-Fi MMO, then Saga of Ryzom is the best one out there.

Guild Wars enforce some PvP and to an extend grouping.
SWG enforce PvE grouping.
I would not play either myself. If you dont mind to have to PvP or to group at moments the game decide you need to, then pick whichever suit you best. Someone would think I would be able to bear SWG, but soon they will enforce something else lame, I just dont know what yet, but they will, SoE will not be happy enforcing grouping only...and grouping enforcement is the limit of what I can bear in a game. In the old SWG you could erase stuff you earn to earn stuff anew, this is why I never try the old SWG, losing stuff I earn already was an uncacceptable game feature.

First of all i dont need a change in MMO's since im not subscribed to any Since im a great Star Wars fan i really want SWG. Besides if you do a running mission it only takes 5 minutes if you know the shortcuts. I have played the Saga of Ryzom beta and to be honest it was absoluty nothing. Maybe good enough for a free MMORPG. I have never tried WoW before but i do not believe there is a trial available. What I would really want is a new trial for SWG.
Grouping is no problem for me. I always let other player do my job. I get the credits they get the experience. MMORPG are great if you want to make some online friends
Im a great SWG fan. I've been watching ever since i heard about the creation of SWG. I tried to become a beta tester but i wasnt chosen. After that i tried the trial. And i have been trying to win SWG with MMORPG.com eversince. So you could say i have had 4 chances to get SWG so far but im just not lucky enough I've also tried to get a Jump to lightspeed trial but it only worked if you hadn't had a SWG trial before. Someday i will get SWG i just hope i wont have to wait much longer. I've been waiting about 2 years know. Before it was released i had to wait a long time for it to come out and when it did it had monthly payments. That was a major setback for me. At 37,99 for 2 months it is expensive
If you want to dance, craft and make music in a game don't get Guild Wars.. Guild Wars is about combat.
My solution to your problem play both. I do. Guild wars is free online so i dont feel like im wasting money when im playing SWG and when you are looking for some quick combat just turn on guildwars which takes about 2 seconds to load into combat. Of course i didnt go out and but SWG and GUild Wars at the same time so i still had money for stuff.
true....but the best combat there is to offer IMHO (with online RPGs that is)
Guild Wars is not a MMO
